Campaign Promise Fulfilled: McCain ’08 Ad Predicts Obama Will Bring $4 Gas Prices
It’s hard for a politician to keep their campaign promises. However, John McCain told America in 2008 that an Obama presidency will bring $4 a gallon prices to the pump. Just months away from completion of his first term, Obama presides over a national gas average of 3.86 a gallon and that includes states where the average is $4 and above — just as one of McCain’s ads promised.
In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Obama is doing everything he can to divide America between the poor masses and a few very rich people on top. Trillions spent and the masses keep getting poorer.

Posted on September 17, 2012 at 1:46pmThe President of the United States (not just Obama, but any President) has little to do with the price of gas. Gas prices are high for many reasons, many of which won’t fit on a bumper sticker (the preferred format of Conservatives), but the big ones are oil speculation, production manipulation by OPEC, and the threat of war in the Middle East (which is why talking big about bombing Iran isn’t a good thing).

This is not true. The policy priorities of the United States most certainly have a direct impact on the pump price of gasoline. Consider for a minute the President’s famous quote about coal when he was running for POTUS.
“You know, when I was asked earlier about the issue of coal, uh, you know — Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Even regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad. Because I’m capping greenhouse gases, coal power plants, you know, natural gas, you name it — whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, uh, they would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers.”
And he did destroy that. It’s one of the few promises he has kept.

Sort of like forbidding your children from playing in the backyard for fear they’ll ruin the garden, but letting all the other neighborhood kids play there.

Total dem hipocracy. But Obama can do something, by stopping the policies that are raising gas prices like:
1. Oppose the zero interest rate easy money inflationary policies of the fed, which is causing higher prices for all commodities, not just oil. This has the added advantage of encouraging thrift again, instead of making savers into saps, as is happening now.
2. Open up fed lands and offshore to drilling again.
3. Stop trying to kill coal.
4. Stop opposing fracking.
5. Build the keystone pipeline.
6. Stop environmentalist policies that stop building of new refineries.

Posted on September 17, 2012 at 12:50pmGas will NEVER again drop below $3.00 a gallon… Why, you may ask (I doubt you guys will, since I am sure you ALL already know this)? Simple, the gas industry has realized that you can sell gas (a product that hasn’t really changed much in 20 years) for high costs and people HAVE to pay for it because we HAVE to have it…. When gas prices started going up, people really didn’t change their driving habits, so the demand didn’t really drop, seeing this tells the gas companies that the price of their product doesn’t matter.. Since we ALL need it, and HAVE to have it, they can charge anything they want, and we WILL pay it…
That is why I freak out when gas jumps $0.25, because that jump (while fluctuates) will be fairly permanent. As a business (as an example) if you Sell doughnuts for $1.00, and then because of demand, have to up your price to $1.50 and the product STILL sells as it did with the prior price, what reason would you have to lower the price back to $1.00?? You would be a fool to do that…
Gas should never have gone above $2.00 a gallon, but since we allowed it to happen, it will never be below $3.00 / Gallon EVER again… And in about a year (if Obama stays in office) I bet gas will be up to at LEAST $4.50/gallon with a $0.50 a year rise until we reach the $8 / Gallon that Obama said he wanted in his 2008 campaign…
It doesn’t take a genius to figure this out..

Posted on September 17, 2012 at 1:48pmPrices can fall. They will fall. But other you have to know how prices have risen first to understand what policies it would take to make them fall.
There are half the number of refineries in the United States today compared to 1980. During that same time period, 96 million more automobiles are on US roads. Why are there half as many oil refineries? Environmental regulation. If you make it too expensive to remain in operation the natural course is closure.
When there is less competition the supply chain can be squeezed either by choice or by accident. Sometimes it is a fire. Sometimes it is the changeover period when refineries stop making “summer fuel” and start making “winter fuel”.

Well said. Sorry, people, but gas will never again be as cheap as it was, for the reason that ONIKAZE layed out–once the gas companies realized that they COULD charge an arm and a leg, they decided that they WOULD.

Nice try, was I on this site complaining about gas prices in 2008 blaming bush? No. Only an idiot would blame the President for gas prices since it is a world market that isnt dictated by just USA consumption. Its a nice try though.
The problem with the GOP is they have this ” blame Obama” complex for everything and they assume the American people are stupid and have no memories. Everyone knows that gas in 2008 was high ( and for most of Bush presidency) and to try to blame it on Obama is laughable at best. Anyone with half a brain knows that no President controls gas prices and since our production is up ( thats a fact) and it hasnt effected the price shows that we dont have much control over it.
The blame Obama card has been overplayed and most know the GOP is full of crap with the blame game, hence why Romney isnt doing so well.

In order to make the trip, we had to keep other expenses low. 4 straight years, 4 straight weeks in a travel trailer. My parents planned for some time to make the trip “just right”. Today, you couldn’t do that trip. You couldn’t afford to. We would fill up that 40 gallon tank with 99 cents per gallon gas sometimes twice daily. 40 gallons today where I live would cost you $178. While they claim the polls are somehow biased there desperation regarding Romney’s chances are all too visible in their lame attacks. Romney set the tone and approach during the primaries. Tell lies frequently and repeatedly until they are fact checked and then move on to another lie. When asked why you utilize offshore accounts, shell corporations and IRA tricks to avoid paying taxes, don’t answer. When asked about lies you have told, smile and look confused on to why anyone would ask that. When asked about specific positions or policy, don’t answer. The country was brought to the brink of disaster by investment bankers who were bailed out, received their bonuses and similarly cheat as much as possible to pay as little taxes as possible. And you want to put one in the White House. You want to vote against the PRESIDENT then do that. But stop trying to pretend Romney is a man of high character, integrity or ethics. He is what he is.
