Romney Revealed: Leaked Footage Shows GOP Candidate Claiming 47 Percent of Americans Will Vote Obama Because They Want Gov’t to Take Care of Them

UPDATE:

More video has been leaked, this time about Romney’s thoughts on the Israeli peace process. See our story here.

Mother Jones on Monday released undercover footage of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney candidly addressing donors during a private, off-the-record fundraiser.

“There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it,” the former Massachusetts governor can be heard saying.

“That, that’s an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what…These are people who pay no income tax,” he continued, adding “so our message of low taxes doesn’t connect.”

“[M]y job is, is not to worry about those people. I’ll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.”

The video was shot at a fundraiser in Boca Raton, Fla., held at the home of private equity manager Marc Leder on May 17, Mother Jones revealed late Monday evening.

There’s more. There’s audio of Romney joking about how his election chances would be strengthened were he Latino:

And there’s audio of Romney claiming he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth — and then the video just cuts out:

However, here’s the full quote not included in the original YouTube video but included in the Mother Jones article [emphasis added]:

There is a perception, “Oh, we were born with a silver spoon, he never had to earn anything and so forth.” Frankly, I was born with a silver spoon, which is the greatest gift you can have: which is to get born in America.

As of this writing, it’s still is unclear who shot the video. All that’s known is snippets of it were originally uploaded to YouTube last month by a user named “Anne Onymous.” Mother Jones has supposedly obtained the full, uncut video from this user and they intend to release more in the near future.

After the footage was released, Obama campaign manager Jim Messina issued the following statement:

It’s shocking that a candidate for President of the United States would go behind closed doors and declare to a group of wealthy donors that half the American people view themselves as “victims,” entitled to handouts, and are unwilling to take “personal responsibility” for their lives. It’s hard to serve as president for all Americans when you’ve disdainfully written off half the nation.

Oh, is it now?

At the same time, Romney campaign communications director Gail Gitcho released a counter-statement:

Mitt Romney wants to help all Americans struggling in the Obama economy. As the governor has made clear all year, he is concerned about the growing number of people who are dependent on the federal government, including the record number of people who are on food stamps, nearly one in six Americans in poverty, and the 23 million Americans who are struggling to find work. Mitt Romney’s plan creates 12 million new jobs in four years, grows the economy and moves Americans off of government dependency and into jobs.

UPDATE: Romney called together a last-minute news conference Monday evening to address the video. He claimed his “off the cuff” remarks were not “elegantly stated” but that he stands by the “jist” of the video.

“Well, you know, it’s not elegantly stated, let me put it that way. I’m speaking off-the-cuff in response to a question, and I’m sure I could state it more clearly and in a more effective way than I did in a setting like that,” Romney said.

“And so I’m sure I’ll point that out as time goes on, but we don’t even have the question given in the snippet there, nor the whole response, and I hope the person who has the video will put out the full material,” he added.

“But it’s a message which I’m going to carry and continue to carry, which is, look, the President’s approach is attractive to people who are not paying taxes because, frankly, my discussion about lowering taxes isn’t as attractive to them, and therefore I’m not likely to draw them into my campaign as effectively as those who are in the middle,” Romney continued.

“This is really about the political process of winning the election. Of course, I want to help all Americans, all Americans, have a bright and prosperous future and I’m convinced the president’s approach has not done that, and will not do that,” he added.

      There is no such thing as “lost” voters. Only voters who have not heard or realized the truth. We need candidates who can show them the truth – not ignore them.

      You think Reagan would give up on 47% of the population? Heck no – he would try to win them with principles. Cmon people

      SOYBOMB315 – How do you take a single mother sitting home receiving a check, food stamps and Medicaid…and tell her she’s better off working? Not going to happen – not for most of them. They’re lost, unless you force them…and who’s going to do that? Plus, there are a boat load of males who have grown up with absolutely no work ethic and no pride thanks to the Democrats. They go to jail, they mooch off of the single mothers who receive checks and they sell drugs. Most of the illegals and many of the legal immigrants coming into the country from south of the border and Northern Africa will take a check over a hard days work any day of the year – they grew up with nothing and that check looks great to them. They’ll be happy with a check, Telemundo and some chickens penned up in the back yard. Unless we find a way to force them all to work, these people are lost as long as you have diabolical Marxists promising a check for a vote.

      Romney says he needs the Independent vote, but he messed that up by treating Paul and his supporters terribly and then changed the rules, against the voice of the people, to keep candidates like Paul from getting any steam in any primary going forward. Idiotic, if you ask me. Now he will lose many of those votes that he says he needs. So what do we do? He will not be able to defeat Obama, just like he says, without them. I am voting for Gary Johnson at this point.
      It seems that most people have more in common with Gary Johnson than Mitt Romney:

      Soy – these are vastly different times and this is not the democratic party of the 80′s or 90′s. No, this is a democratic party that is more concerned with power and running the country into the ground so they can start a new country without the Constitution. The unfortunate truth is that this 47% will NEVER change their minds because they are being given everything they need by the democrats and Obama. Why would you vote out the party that is giving you everything and only asking for your vote in return? Only when the gravy train runs dry will the 47% realize they made a huge mistake.

      Poor people didn’t line up in the streets and start demanding Food Stamps and Wefare from the Government. That has never happened.

      Before there was Social Security, Old People didn’t say, Wait a minute, the Government needs to pay me a Retirement !!!!

      All of this stuff was thought up by our Politicians and our Government. And not the People that now have to rely on just to get by, not live, just get by.

      People on some of these Government Programs, Want to go back to work, but because of our Politicians and Government they now can’t. The Politicians have made a mess out of eveything.

      Nobody is born a socialist. We have to understand that almost everyone in this country is a product of the public education system. With that in mind, if someone does not have decent parents or parents that are lefties – there is a high likelihood they will grow up to become apathetic or a tool for the left.

      The 47% are that way because of their environment and their world view. I suggest it is time to break down the walls of ignorance with the fundamental truths that guided our country for so long: Freedom, Constitution, Peace, Small Government, Individual Freedom, Charity…..If we use those tools, no MSM outlet or communist president will be able to keep them. Or you can keep swallowing whatever garbage or excuses the two parties are offering you on a given week – the choice is yours

      Romney is WAY closer to the truth than Obama will ever admit publicly. Big government politicians–Ds and Rs alike–want an ever increasing number of programs. It is 100% unsustainable!!! The vast majority of those 47% are not ever going to vote for a smaller government type. Jesus could run against Obama, and Obama would still get most of these votes.

      When Romney talks about decreasing gooberment jobs by attrition, slashing wasteful programs, and increasing jobs thus decreasing “free” money, I believe he means it. That is the key. Will America evolve to this new danger, or will we fail to adapt and then literally fail as a country?? The key choice is really that simple. Obama is promising–AGAIN–to cut the deficit by 4 trillion. He promised that 4 years ago. Dems had large majorities in the senate and house. They did not get it done because they never intended to keep that promise in the first place. THOUSANDS of lies later, we are now literally on the brink.

      Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.

      Zechariah 7:8-10
      … “This is what the LORD Almighty says: ‘Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another. Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the alien or the poor. In your hearts do not think evil of each other.’

      Deuteronomy 15:7, 11
      If there is a poor man among your brothers in any of the towns of the land that the LORD your God is giving you, do not be hardhearted or tightfisted toward your poor brother. There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your brothers and toward the poor and needy in your land.

      1 John 3:17-18
      If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.

      and last but not least, compassionate (I think this what Mitt was lacking in that speech).

Their deductions and children put them in to that bracket. Not all lower income people are democrats, or vote for democrats, or want anything from the government. Romney as an ass for saying such a stupid thing..
      I will still vote for him even so, Obama is not getting the job done and democrats with their abortions rights will never get my vote.

      Darkjello, have you read the article above? here’s quote from Mitt:
      “[M]y job is, is not to worry about those people. I’ll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.”

      Where’s the compassionate in that sentence? sounds to me that Mitt thinks that those people are just a lost caused. Sounds to me Mitt was just marginalized those people. So, there’s no need to appeal to those people, they don’t pay tax anyway and just living out of government money. They’re so dumb and afraid, so they will only vote for people who handed food to them, etc… Mitt speech was not trying to encourage American exceptionalism, that people who was born poor, brought up and get help from government is also a human and can full fill their American’s dream someday.

      @palter:

      Truth > compassion. If whoever acts the most compassionate should win, then Obama is your man. He is superb at pretending all kinds of things with 1 hand, while doing something else with the other. Our government must be trimmed for many presidencies to come. Obama will continue to spend in an “irresponsible” and “unpatriotic” way–according to HIS own words.

      Romney never said those people were “dumb and afraid”, just that they are taking the low road to mediocrity at the maximum. Too many Rs and Ds want even bigger government. This is 100% proven folly. Obama is NOT going to fundamentally transform America into a more successful country. Look at his track record.

      I feel pretty insulted and hurt by Romney’s comments. My family earns at around the poverty level… because my husband happens to be in law school and I run my own business while homeschooling; it doesn’t pay very much. Accusing me of being an Obama supporter is about the nastiest insult that anybody could throw at me. I’d rather be called a killer… at least George Bush recognized that just because someone was not rich didn’t mean that they were willing to kill. I’d rather be accused of eating out of the sewers or garbage cans. Just because I’m temporarily poor doesn’t mean that I like the way that things are and am not trying to improve my life to make it better. It’s not like you can wake up someday and make a lot of money. If it was that easy, more people would be doing it. Sometimes it seems like every day is a struggle for survival… and I know for a fact if Obama was out of office more people would have jobs and my business would be doing better than it is.

      Even though Mitt Romney has called me something that I consider to be incredibly offensive, I’ll still be voting for him. But just because I’m poor doesn’t make me a killer… and it also doesn’t mean that I’m something far worse either… an Obama voter.

      THERE IS A CLEAR CHOICE in this ELECTION. DO we want a FREE COUNTRY or do we want a GOVERNMENT CONTROLLED COUNTRY?
      DO we want our Ability to go to college, (and where) to be determined by the GOV. or by ourselves?
      DO we want to be so controlled by regulations that we cannot think outside the box therefore the
      great INNOVATION days that built AMERICA are over…or are we willing to go back to the way that made AMERICA GREAT. Neighbors helping neighbors. Politicians working FOR US not ruling us?
      THIS IS THE CHOICE!!
      Romney is merely saying that 47% of the people (as with the last election) want to be wards of the GOVERNMENT. The rest are up for grabs. That gives him the WIN. and @ BROOKE LORREN:
      This Country is perfect for people trying to make it. We’ve all had ramen noodles while we chugged through school, we’ve all paid others first before ourselves. This is just part of the cliimb. THE POINT is we still can CLIMB. OBAMA wants to stifle that- kill the American Spirit. Mitt gave his all away and then built it again. Mitt is saying that MOST AMERICANS do not want to be told they have to stay at a certain level (like Obama would have us…to be “fair” you know) . WHAT YOU GUYS have to get about MITT is that he is 1) Not CONNIVING 2) Not DEVIOUS 3) IS very successful and doesn’t need this but is willing to help … this man’s life is already a great success. I don’t get people who aspire to so little. It’s hard not having much either. I can see ministers and charity workers who intentionally work for a low income because they can’t do it either way… God bless them. My little boy was telling me the other day that he wanted to become a scientist, and then he wanted to quit that job and work at Wal-Mart. I told him that it was fine for him to work at Wal-Mart while he was in college, but if he had a good paying job, that he wouldn’t want to quit it to work at Wal-Mart, unless it was to be a CEO or Regional Manager or something.

      It’s not just the money (although I used to have money when I was in the military, and it sure is nice)… it’s about being able to make a difference as well. You usually don’t make money unless you’re doing something for somebody. That’s why they pay you. Even if somebody paid me a monthly stipend that was fabulous and I didn’t have to work, I’d still want to do something… even if I was incapacitated, I could at least have a prayer ministry or something. I don’t understand why people don’t want that.

      BROOKE, PALTER AND OTHERS,
      You are misreading what Romney said. We need to stop falling for the media’s distortion of everything conservatives say.

      First, Romney is not talking about how he plans to govern as president. He is explaining his CAMPAIGN STRATEGY based on the demographic trends. That is the context, and he is just laying out the facts.

      Second, Romeny is not referring to poor people. He very specifically talks about those who have an entitlement mentality: “That’s an entitlement. And they believe the government should give it to them.” Then he mentions the 5-10% who are in the CENTER. So you see, he is not talking about poor people, per se. He’s talking about LEFTIES. That said, it is easy to sell communism in a bad economy, because poor people lose hope of every getting out of poverty.

      Romney will restore economic mobility, so that lower income people can pursue the American Dream. America was once the land of opportunity, but liberalism has turned it into a land of indentured servants.

I have said it before about the lady I know (avid Obama supporter) who gets SSI because “she has back pain” but is well enough every year to work a week of VBS as the cook in the kitchen and a server. She has rent subsidies, food stamps, welfare, and all 4 of her kids have blackberries. Plus she just sent one off to college. I can’t afford to send my kid to college. As a matter of fact, I just was told that my Down Syndrome, autistic child has to go on a WAITING LIST to get additional services, like being able to go to a day care type place where he can have friends. I think the way I was treated in the office was sort of we’ll have to see who gets re-elected to see if we have funding sort of treatment…don’t you want to vote Democrat to make sure your son gets the services he needs. No, I want to vote Republican so there is more accountability. Just stop giving ONE illegal alien benefits and they can afford to send my son to his day care.

      Folks, if enough of us can’t understand what Romney means by this, then our country is toast. If the freeloading voters outnumber the working voters, we are done. Romney was just alluding to reality. Freeloaders are not stupid. They work hard to figure out how to avoid work and get money. They are proud of it. BTW, Seniors worked all their life, paid for their retirement check, paid for their health care (still do), and deserve it. They should like what Romney said. Romney will try hard to save social security and medicare. Right now Bernanki, under the direction of Obama, is taking the seniors’ money away from them by printing excessive amounts of money. Remember folks, all that money is, is purchasing power. Bernanki is devaluing the dollar faster than the Greeks, Spain, Italy, and Portugal are devaluing the Euro. The Euro is now better than the dollar. Very soon, if Obama wins, a loaf of bread will cost $10 or more (same for a gal. of gas) and then what will seniors do? Even the freeloaders will be in a pinch until they figure out how to get more free money. Only crooks would do what is now going on under Obama.

Do you sincerely think there is a chance to sway them? If so your only lying to yourself. Putting money into peoples hand is the quickest way to get them on your side. What do you think foreign aide is for?

      Obviousy Romey was not thinking…he’ll lose the senior vote if he continues like this. First of all, there is 2.6 Trillion Dollars in the Social Security Trust Fund in the form of an IOU from Congress (stolen from Seniors). Secondly to restate Seniors have paid into the system for 50 yrs and more, and then upon retirement and collection of their retirement funds they then pay $125.00 a a month to the Fed Gov’t for Medicare, and then in add’n they pay either an add’l 20% for Medical Care or pay another $100.00 plus per month for add’l ins (so that they can have medicine paid for, and yes they also have a co pay there as well). So people should shut up calling it an entitlement….IT’S AN EARNED RETIREMENT, LIKE INS. Do your research and then shoot your mouth off. I still support Romney as he is the lessor of two evils….Obama is incompetent, and anti American and more than likely an idiot with an Agenda.

      take it in context, the question was about convincing people to vote for him, and his answer was related to “not worry about them” voting for him. He wasn’t saying he didn’t want them to prosper or that he didn’t care about their lives, he was specifically talking about convincing them to vote for him. it will get so much play that he “doesn’t care about the 47%” and that’s not what he was talking about.

      Was what Romney said true? Possibly although I am not convinced that the number of die hard would never vote for a republican or Romney is as high as 47%. However it was stupid to even say it regardless of if its true or not why even say that.. completely bone head move. I know for a fact that I fall into that group that he talks about that doesn’t pay taxes, but I do work hard I have a job and I do make an income I just have five kids and as such don’t make enough to fall in to paying taxes. I for one would never vote for Obama especially and would probably never vote for a democrat. I know people that are poor and on food stamps and get government help that are absolutely not voting for Obama and are absolutely voting for Romney. Making generalizations no matter how close to the truth they are is not a good idea. Is what Romney said going to change my vote or my mind in November? Heck no we have two real choices Obama and Romney and I sure as heck am not voting for Obama. I am not going to doom my country to destruction by not voting or worse yet voting for some other nobody never gonna win person just because the guy I really wanted didn’t win in the Primary. And shame on anyone that dooms our children to that fate by cutting your nose off to spite your face.

      @Jaybe which is exactly why he should have never said it in the first place. Those words should have never left his mouth. But now that they have he needs to stop trying to explain them away and move on to what he really needs to be talking about and thats the economy and jobs. The more you sit there and try to explain and defend it the more chance there is to continue to play it on air over and over again. Let it drop and move on.

      So Romney’s in trouble for telling the truth? People need to wake up and realize the truth. Progressives have worked diligently to cement a voting majority by making people dependant on the govenment.

      The reason Obama was elected was the color of his skin. People wanted to show how far this country had come by voting for a (half) black president. It didn’t matter what his politics were. Honestly, Romney would have an easier time if he were Latino. He would be able to get the voters who don’t want to seem racist by voting Obama out!

      @soybomb315:
      Your comments are pathetic and drivel. Jesus said that we would ALWAYS have the poor with us. THAT IS A GIVEN. However, ONLY Romney wants to help them. So, the question really is, DOES HE WANT TO HELP THEM BY ENABLING THEM TO REMAIN POOR, OR ENABLE THEM TO GET OUT OF THEIR SQUALOR AND DO BETTER BY GETTING AN EDUCATION AND A JOB?

      It seems to me that Obama doesn’t care about the poor or he would STOP supporting their bad habits. It takes a TRUE LEADER to tell the truth. I think Romney did that in that video, no matter HOW he said it or WHO he said it to. Obama only wants to BRIBE the poor by giving them what they want – NOTHING BY TAX PAYER DOLLARS FOR DOING ***NOTHING***.

      How do you cure a drug addict? Do you give him MORE DRUGS?
      How do you cure an alcoholic? Do you push liquor at them?

      If you answer to both those questions is NO then you must know that the person who has the problem of being poor, a drug addict or an alcoholic MUST MAKE THE DECISION THEMSELVES TO TURN THEIR LIFE AROUND. It is NOT up to the government to continue enabling them to do wrong, to continue being poor, to continue to drink, to continue to do ALL THE THINGS THAT WILL DESTROY THEM. It is up to the government to HELP them WHEN NECESSARY FOR A SHORT TERM, but in the meantime give them tools TO HELP THEMSELVES!

      YOU ARE JUST ANOTHER OBAMA IDIOT.
      God helps those who help themselves. It is NOT up to the govt to do that long-term!

      Let’s look at those 47% of American Romney says are moochers because the don’t pay federal income tax. Except for the unemployed, they all pay payroll taxes (social security and medicare) at the rate of about 15% of their salary.

      In other words, they pay a higher rate of tax on their income than Romney. Ironic isn’t it?

      “These are people who pay no income tax” Pretty interesting charge from a guy who utilizes offshore accounts, shell corporations and IRA tricks to avoid paying taxes he would owe otherwise. An individual who when asked stated that he paid 13% in taxes, without stipulating what type of taxes comprised that amount. Although we got a hint of his ability to be loose with the truth when he attempted to include charitable donations as something that should be considered, even thought they are tax deductible. And once again, while 47% of Americans may pay little federal income tax, they pay real estate taxes either directly or indirectly, sales taxes (at a disproportionate level) and of course any number of excise taxes, such as gasoline, liquor, cigarettes, etc. And of course thanks to the slight of hand move by many Republicans higher fees for everything from driver licenses to school fees. When you pay higher fees for government services you are in fact paying a tax.

      Just as the two basic and mutually exclusive interrelations between men are peaceful cooperation or coercive exploitation, production or predation, so is the history of mankind, particularly its economic history, may be considered as a contest between these two principles. On the one hand, there is creative productivity, peaceful exchange and cooperation; on the other, coercive dictation and predation over those social relations.
      Romney, did not state the truth strong enough in my opinion. When 1/3 of any population is dependent on its central planners so also is 1/3 of industry and 1/3 of all commerce. By definition this is socialism. It is that very dependence that has put America in the Keynesian comma we are experiencing today.
      If one stops and listens to those on the left, the argument they are stuck making is envious and greedy; on the other hand, the argument on the right is about independence rather than dependence, it is about personal decision making as opposed to collective confiscation. At the end of the day (and this may come about in our life time), the socialist parasite kills the productive host and the collective relativistic utopian mythology becomes the tyranny of out right dictatorship.

      There is a finite percentage of the population that will without exception, vote their party’s candidate. The would be nothing for the opposition to “reach out to” for these voters. There is a certain segment of this 47+% that could be reached, and possibly swayed. Targeting this subgroup would be possible, as they can be identified with certain socio-economic characteristics. A vast majority of this subgroup would fall into the “independent voter” category and not totally be indoctrinated or dependent on the government teat. Forget about the diehard multi-generational moocher or emotionalistic and agenda driven part of this 47%..they will vote Democrat no matter who says what. Oh, and yeah, there are Republicans who would vote party loyalty no matter who ran as well, but with the overwhelming success of incrementalism in the Democrat agenda, the Dems are winning regardless. Remember, when Republicans compromise on anything, we loose freedoms every time, and Dems gain more government. This is without exception!

      Why do you vote against your interests. Romney is clear, he does not see his job as President is to represent you or others that do not belong to his class in society. This is proven with his statement about why there was no mention of returning vets and soldiers in his acceptance speech, according to Romney ” When you give a speech you don’t go through a laundry list, you talk about the things that you think are important.” This is proven by the report of the CBO that Romney’s tax plan will lower the taxes for the 1% while raising the taxes on those that make under $250k.

      LOL..really ENCIDIOT?
      Let’s see..last month the economy added 96K jobs while 395K people dropped out of the workforce and gave up looking for work. This is worth celebrating to you is it clownshoes? Unemployment has remained over 8% throughout Obama’s tenure. The underemployment rate is the highest since WWII. More people on food stamps under Obama since decades.

      Obama hasn’t even made up the deficit of jobs lost since 2008/2009. He’s not even close to doing so…certainly not with laughable numbers like 96K new jobs.

      The workforce has actually shrunk under Barack Obama…less Americans are working today.

      Romney will reverse Obama’s incompetent handling of the economy and reduce that 47% number by giving more Americans a good job.

      Let’s remember…most of those jobs you’re crowing about have been low paying ones, this is not a sign of a healthy economy or good job numbers..not one bit. I’m happy to supply the numbers if you’re still persistent.

      You have lost this argument ENCIDIOT/MONICNE/SLEAZY HIPPO/ad nauseum……this is why Obama’s team is downplaying the upcoming debates they see the writing on the wall.

      It’s obvious that Romney is utterly out-of-touch with half of America if he claims 47% of Americans are “victims” and “unwilling to take responsibility for themselves”. He and you should know who these Americans are if you are so quick to criticize them.

      WHO ARE THE 47%:

      * Many of the WORKING POOR – many people who work full or part time that just don’t make enough to raise themselves or their families on what they earn (for example, some secretaries, taxi drivers, servers, nursing aides, customer service reps, deli workers, preschool teachers, etc.)

      * Many ELDERLY – many senior citizens need extra governmental financial assistance in the forms of S.S. and Medicare and Medicaid.

      * Many of the LONG-TERM UNEMPLOYED – people who have been laid off in the past four years due to the Country’s economic situation, and despite their best efforts, have been unable to find employment.

      * Many who are DISABLED – many disabled individuals are unable to work due to their disabilities.

      * Many TAKERS – people who choose to be dependent and not take responsibility for themselves (only 6-7% of the 47% fall into this category.)

      Almost all of the above pay other Federal, state and local taxes.

      It’s startling to realize that Romney has no idea who the 47% are. He couldn’t possibly be a good leader after showing complete distain for half of those he wishes to lead. Do you realize that thousands of the 47% vote Republican? Will they still give him their vote af

      Please show me how Obama “cares” for us all when last month 385,000 people dropped out of the workforce and gave up looking for jobs while only adding 96,000 jobs? This kind of performance is worth voting for in your eyes yes?

      Can you speak in anything other than FOx News approved talking points? Again, W. crashes the economy, the GOP handcuff Obama with a campaign of blocking any legislation that Obama wants and than complains that job creation is not happening fast enough, but job growth is happening. http://articles.businessinsider.com/2012-01-23/politics/30485008_1_unemployment-rate-obama-election-day

      As for Public employees, I realize that the GOP hates the first responders, considers them a bunch of slackers and takers. But they create the middle class and are tax payers. But than again you are your neighbors can put out a fires on your own after your pave the roads.

      Well, I guess if having every job creating legislation quickly voted down by Repubs, who claim to have better ideas but do nothing about them, means that he hasn’t done anything in the area of job growth, then I would have to agree with you. We all remember how right after his election, Republicans stated in public that their most important thing in the next four years was to make sure Pres. Obama was a one-term-president. They’ve worked really hard on that one, and not on much else.

      Personally, I really love Pres. Obama’s job-creating idea of shoring up our Country’s infrastructure, such as repairing American’s delapitated roads and bridges, etc. Think of how many jobs that would bring in, and how many other businesses that would benefit from such work. THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS!!

      @PALTER
      if you read further mitt speech transcript, he summarized those 47% as: quote from mitt speech “….. These are people who pay no income tax”. So clearly he’s refering to poor people
      ———
      No, he was referring to people with an “entitlement mentality,” who are poor because they love their status quo. Not all the poor are gimmes, but all gimmes are poor. The reason he mentioned the “income tax” was not to redifine the group again to include those who are stuggling to make it, but because SINCE the gimmes do not pay income tax, Mitt’s message of lower taxes does not connect with them. Lower taxes is not an incentive for them to switch over to Romney, BECAUSE they are freeloaders.

      You need to analyze in context. This is about campaign demographics, not how he will govern. Have you missed his speeches? You are echoing the MSM caricatures of Romney.

      AvenJerK asks, “You do understand that Romney was already taxed on his salary before being taxed again on the investments capital gains he makes?”

      Actually JerK it’s not true that at Bain Romney paid taxes twice on the same money, first as a salary then as an investment. Rather than take a salary, Bain managers paid themselves with investments, and the taxes they paid on their compensation was half what it would be if they too a salary.

      Some experts say that’s legal, some say it’s not. But it’s certainly a tax break for the rich that you or I can’t take. If you could get paid with stock with McDonald’s rather than salary, you’d dramatically cut your tax rate. Only you can’t, because you need that money to live on.

      Yep, the rich get richer and the playing field is slanted there way.

      I’m sure if I actually had the chance to address Mitt Romney, he would admit that he didn’t mean people like me in this comment. But the fact that he used the 47% figure (which would include 100% of the people that didn’t earn enough to pay income tax) means that he did include me in his figures, whether he meant to or not. Had he said “most of the people that don’t pay income tax” or used a number slightly less than 47%, then that wouldn’t have included me.

      He is right on one thing though… I have made up my mind NOT to vote for Obama. George Soros could call me on the phone today and offer me a billion dollars, and I wouldn’t vote for Obama. Even if the press dug up some really heinous information on Romney, like he likes to travel to foreign countries and shoot nuns or has gas chambers in his backyard to kill Jews or something… you still couldn’t make me vote for Obama (although in the last case I’d probably vote Gary Johnson or write in Rick Santorum or something).

      When you paint an entire group with a broad brush, then you’re likely to be making the wrong assumptions about some people.

      Is reading and comprehension a problem for you JZS? The very article you linked to shows that Romney’s retirement agreement doesnt’ give him the right to participate in the programn you’re bleating about (which is legal anyway). Nor did Romney participate in it before he retired. His tax returns don’t indicate any of this activity either. You’re an idiot JZS and your OWS-esque class warfare banalities are droll, noxious and insipid..much like anything that emits from you.
      Here’s the reality JZS…Mitt Romney has already paid more tax money to the federal government than you and your troupe of OWS monkeys will pay in your entire lifetimes.

      You do understand that waiving fees and accepting investments is a gamble don’t you JZS?

      I know you’ve never done this before JZS but when you participate in a company profit sharing programn you’re doing almost the same thing. You’re forgoing a portion of your pre-taxed pay, along with a sum from your employer and investing it in mutual funds..etc for your retirement. This is usually tax deferred. Go ahead JZS..convince less afluent Americans than Mitt Romney to pay more taxes on their 401ks. Oh wait..that’s exactly what Barry’s shooting for isn’t it little guy?

      AvenJerk, you sound perky today. Awesome. As tiresome as it sometimes is to correct you again and again though, I suppose I will again. If you’d read the article, you’d have seen that according to the NYT, Romney did use that tax avoidance strategy (not to mention Swiss Bank accounts and secret overseas tax shelters). And his attorney only claims he didn’t use that potentially illegal tax avoidance scheme after he retired (you say it’s legal – you’re a tax attorney? – but others quoted in the article say it’s not).

      Speaking of retirement accounts, how did Romney get $100 million in his retirement account, when the yearly limit is 30K? http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-07-15/the-secret-behind-romney-s-magical-ira.html

      I know you don’t want to admit it, but everybody knows why Romney won’t release his tax returns, and it’s not because he can’t afford to have copies made.

      I’m just amazed at how many Conservatives are “circling the wagons” around Romney saying that he shouldn’t apologize but instead use his elitest comments to show America what conservative principles are all about. Really? By insulting half of the Country? Romney obviously doesn’t know who the 47% are. Do you really think it’s intelligent to campaign on how the half the County doesn’t have his support because “[M]y job is, is not to worry about those people. I’ll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.” Does Romney or any of you really understand who the 47% are? They are the hard-working poor, seniors, the disabled, students, etc., along with about 6% who are the Takers. Facts show that the majority of the 47% DO take personal responsibility, care for their lives, and pay plenty of Federal, state and local taxes. I think Conservatives are right – Romney should “own” his words, but I’m betting his insults and disdain for half the Country aren’t going to help him much.

      In 1887 Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh, had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years prior: “A democracy is always
      temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority
      always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse over loose fiscal policy, (which is) always followed by a dictatorship.”

      “The average age of the world ‘s greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:

      From bondage to spiritual faith;
      From spiritual faith to great courage;
      From courage to liberty;
      From liberty to abundance;
      From abundance to complacency;
      From complacency to apathy;
      From apathy to dependence;
      From dependence back into bondage.”
      The Obituary follows:

      Born 1776, Died 2012
      It doesn ‘t hurt to read this several times. Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law in
      St. Paul, Minnesota, points out some interesting facts concerning

      It is a sad day when Americas’ people choose fiat money and a false since of security provided by unconstitutional wars and warrantless wiretapping and spying on American citizens not to mention indefinite detention. What will it take to make you see that following the constitution and championing liberty is what this country needs. Mitt Romney is the same as Obama his road ends where Obama’s road ends. Instead of voting for the same old tired politicians we’ve been voting for sinc the early 20th century lets try something new. Write in Ron Paul or vote for Gary Johnson.

      ENCINOM, The elderly are taxpayers. That first tax bill signed by Bill Clinton back in early ’93 for the first time in our history began to tax their Social Security benefits. It was you Dem-wits who started to take away from the elderly since Social Security hardly covers the elderly’s monthly expenses. So, there is no reason for you to lump the elderly into the sit on your dead a s s with your hand out crowd.

      Note: This story timed to draw attention away from the murder of 4 patriotic Americans in Egypt, more in Afghanistan and wasn’t it Yemen 4 others. Sounds a little fishy this happened in May and Walla! It seems to have worked as there are nearly 700 comments. He has one thing right for sure and that is some of us are in his camp no matter what–we are against tyranny. And I would bet on it that if Romney would place a sign on his desk saying the buck stops here it really would (shades of a different kind of Democrat Harry S. Truman). I love what he said about born in America because I have that same feeling. I am still proud to be an American despite and to spite that bunch of mealy mouth hypocrites.

      The facts are only 18% of the country pays no income taxes (Federal and State, the 47% is Federal only). Of the 18% that pay no taxes over half are the elderly. Again, Romney is throwing out random right wing talking points and proving that while he knows what to say to the fringe base, he is clueless on how to be a President. I a crowd of the haves and have mores, Romney is talking about not caring about all the citizens as president. The CBO has already said the Romney tax plan will lower taxes for the richest while increasing taxes on those that make under $250K.

      I guess Reagan was a progressive pandering to the takers. Of course given the federal income tax law and child credits and home owner credits, etc., most of the NASCAR families are in the 47%, also given the way the rich can manipulate their income Romney and other investors could also be with in the 47%.

      Here is the difference you idiot, while Romney has written off all of those that do not have country club membership. The Obama continued to speak after the Bible and Guns quote you cite. Here is the rest of Obama’s statement: “now these are in some communities, you know. I think what you’ll find is, is that people of every background – there are gonna be a mix of people, you can go in the toughest neighborhoods, you know working-class lunch-pail folks, you’ll find Obama enthusiasts. And you can go into places where you think I’d be very strong and people will just be skeptical. The important thing is that you show up and you’re doing what you’re doing.”

      While Romney has talks of ignore the poor, the ones that don’t belong to his class, Obama talked about still going and reaching out to those that would be opposed to him.

      Romney wants to make that 47% smaller by having more Americans working. More Americans working means more tax payers. Is this ok with you champ? Or do you prefer Obama’s record unemployment and even worse underemployment numbers instead?

      You dont’ get it you drooling idiot….this has played right into Romney’s hands. Romney can now argue he wants to make that 47% a much smaller percentage rather than feed it and coddle it.

      Ah, you’re just mad ’cause your boy just told senior citizens living off of Social Security and Medicare, and working poor whose children depend on Medicaid, and anyone who has the misfortune of losing their job and now collects unemployment that they are good-for-nothing bums, and that he doesn’t give a crap about them because they’re not going to vote for him anyway, and he said it when he though only his rich, white friends were listening but got he caught. And the funny thing is that most of those people that you say are “sick of handouts” get handouts themselves. A majority of people on welfare live in red states. So Skeeter (known to his children as Uncle Dad) likes to talk big about “those lazy bums living off the ‘guvment’” as he pays for a bag of Cheese-Oh’s (because they’re cheaper than actual Cheetos). Which leads me to another point: Considering that–ranked by income–eight of the top ten states are blue states, and all of the bottom ten are red states (with Repub. Governors and Repub. led legislatures), don’t you people ever get the feeling that you must be fundamentally wrong?

      VANCIE….”the misfortune of losing their jobs”? You mean the misfortune of having lost their jobs and can’t find another one right? Because under Barack Obama the underemployment is the highest since WWII. Unemployment has not dropped beneath 8% throughout Obama’s tenure. The workforce has shrunk under Barack Obama. Hiring remains at a trickle…infact..last month 395,000 people dropped out of the workforce compared to 96,000 new hires.

      Let me dumb that down for you champ…more than three times the people who found work simply dropped out of the workforce because under Obama’s economy they can’t find jobs…in record numbers.

      Well….Barry certainly needs four more years for a performance like that right?

      Seen the numbers for past recessions VANCYBOY? The bounce back is always steep and pronounced from a recession…Obama seems to be unique in this history of recoveries…he’s flatlined instead.

      No by all means..tell me what’s fantastic about 385,000 people dropping out of the workforce last month little buckeroo. Or how Obama predicted the unemployment rate would be 5% today when in fact it hasn’t dropped below 8% throughout his tenure. Or the fact that the underemployment rate is the highest since WWII….let me dumb that down again for you little champion….more people have given up looking for work or have taken on part-time work for lack of full time work under Barack Obama since any administration since WWII. Or the fact that the workforce actually shrunk under Barack Obama.

      Let’s talk about disdain for the American people ENCIDIOT/MONICNE/ad nauseum…..
      Barack Obama subordinates the loan guarantee to Solyndra that makes sure that the tax payer is left on the hook for the failed enterprise while his campaign bundler’s $75million stake in Solyndra is protected. This is not disdain to you champ?

      Or how about the latest rumblings from GM? GM has asked the government to sell it’s 27% stake in the company because the salary caps are inhibiting the hiring of much needed new talent into the company. Obama’s administration won’t comply because by selling the stake, it would highlight the degree of loss the taxpayer got hit with in buying a stake in GM (rather than doing what Romney called for..a structured bankruptcy that would have saved the company but torn up union contracts)….so Obama let’s GM wallow in it’s misery for his campaign. This is not disdain for Americans to you little camper?
      What about calling Americans bigots and paranoind delusionals when times get tough in his “god, guns and bigots” speech to a group of San Francsico elites at a fundraiser ENCiDIOT/MONICNE? Is this not disdain to you ENCIDIOT? I know you’re worried ENCiDIOT..because this “47%” meme is about to blow up in Obama’s face when Romney begins tying it to Soetero.

    “Mitt Romney wants to help all Americans struggling in the Obama economy. As the governor has made clear all year, he is concerned about the growing number of people who are dependent on the federal government, including the record number of people who are on food stamps, nearly one in six Americans in poverty, and the 23 million Americans who are struggling to find work. Mitt Romney’s plan creates 12 million new jobs in four years, grows the economy and moves Americans off of government dependency and into jobs.”

He has felt entitled to everything and seems grateful for nothing. He hates rich people and hates Republicans because he sees himself as a victim. I saw his FREE cell phone laying on his table and said “Hey, I see you get a cell phone.” His replay “Yah! Here’s what’s wrong with your math. The 47%, if it is that high, who don’t pay taxes includes the people who don’t pay because they are too young or too old too work. Many of those who are too old are among those who are sure to vote for Romney. Those who are too young include the approximately 1/8 of the overall population who are also too young too vote, and, therefore, don’t count among the 47% of voters committed to either side. That means that even if none of the citizens who don’t pay taxes for some other reason were Romney voters (which I don’t believe for a second) there would still have to be many millions of tax paying citizens among those who intend to vote for Obama.

      Whoops, allow me to correct my own math. Approximately 25% percent of the population is too young to vote. So, even if none of the citizens who don’t pay taxes for some other reason were Romney voters (which, again, I do not believe), well over half of those who intend to vote for Obama are tax paying citizens.

    Folks, this is why you want a Constitutional Liberty candidate instead of moderates like Romney. People who believe in the Constitution believe that we need to re-educate the public and let them know the truth and how things are supposed to be. But people like Mitt Romney just want to win elections by a point or two and continue this republican/democrat paradigm

    If you want a better future and if you want to win the “untouchables” to your side – vote for people who sound on principles and have the courage to speak against tyranny

      The progressives have a 100 year head start on redefining the country and what the role of government should be. They have the media, all levels of education, and the courts all in their corner. There is no way that we are going to change all of that in just one election. It is going to take some time to get conservative constitutional ideals reintroduced back into society. Its going to take electing the right people at all levels of government; local, state, and federal. So while Romney might not be the perfect conservative candidate, he is certainly a change in that direction.

      Soy -

      I have read a couple of your posts, and I get, and agree, with what you are saying; however – not going to happen. I have several close friends, and mean, good close friends that I have tried to ‘educate’ for years. They absolutely do not want to hear it. The days of Reagan are gone; never to return. This is a very chilling reality that I myself am having a very tough time accepting, but it is our reality right now, and we have to deal with it.

      I work as hard as I can to get libs and progressives to see America without the ‘filters’; it’s near impossible.

      I’ve been on and off of unemployment for more time than I want to admit – I HATE it! I had an 80K job w/ incredible benefits up until Christmas ’09. I now live off Food Stamps, Medicare, etc. By the Grace of God I am still in my home, and my family is still intact.

      This is no longer the country my father once knew and loved. Its character, ethics, and moral compass are lost. Can it be regained, I have no idea.

      In spite of an economy that continues to collapse, and the Mid East in flames, Obama’s numbers are rising! I fully understand that this could very well be a result of skewed polling, but if so, is there nothing that can be trusted anymore? If not, what kind of country does America now want?

      I am at a loss; and have been living in a state of disbelief for a country that I love so dearly become something so opposite of what our Constitution meant it to be.

      And if an Obama second term?

      I don’t believe that Romney was speaking about a person who did take personal responsibility like you did. You went out & looked for a job, you wanted to work, and succeeded in obtaining work.
      He is speaking about those people who have “learned how to play the game” & get their livelihood from the government.And plan to remain that way.
      I did income taxes for more than 10 years. It was absolutely disgusting to watch a LOT of people get an $8000 to $10000+ income tax refund & go buy a big screen TV or a Wii system instead of taking care of their children first. And yes, that happened A LOT, I worked with many of these people’s children at school for 10+ years. I had clients that would ask me what the “earned income tax credit” threshold was going to be for the next year so they’d know haw much money they could make. They would even have the nerve to tell me that they would make sure that they only worked until they reached that threshold. They’d make $15000 a year with 3 children, get welfare, medicaid, food stamps, housing allowance, utility help, etc. Add it all together with the income tax refund & it amounts to well over $35000 per year.
      I’ve got many more of these type of stories, but I’d just be venting instead of being productive.

      Let’s find out. If he doesn’t we’ll hold him accountable and kick him out in 4 years for lying just like we are about to kick Obama out for lying.

    Surprised that a guy who has been running for President for 8 years isn’t more ready for the spot light.

      I don’t want a President in the spotlight, we have that with President Kardasian. I’d rather my President was in the White House working. A novel concept for the currant occupant. Also those on the Gov Teat are most likely going to vote for President Teat. Thats just a fact. Unfortunately the milk coming out of the Teat is our money. WTF

      By “working” you mean giving a speech to private high dollar fundraisers and saying you don’t care about 47% of the electorate?

      MODER: Yeah. Old Romney shouldn’t be talking to those nasty ” rich” people who pay all of the taxes. Those nasty ” rich” people Obama has been trashing since 2012. Romney should be talking to the poor people who don’t pay any taxes and who have been brainwashed by Obama to hate the nasty rich. DUH. What are you thinking ??? …never mind…. think I know….

      @BARBER2

      Obama extended the Bush tax cuts. I think something like 1/3rd of the 787 billion Stimulus was tax cuts.

      Obama supported the bailout which made the big banks even bigger and re-distributed money from the middle class to the rich.

      Unfortunately, your post only shows one half. Yes, he is pandering to the wealthy….at the expense of everyone else.

      He lumped every Obama supporter in with the Reagan created “welfare queen” and said they have no interest in taking responsibility for their lives.

      Tell that to someone who lost their job and is unable to find one.
      Tell that to someone who had health insurance but went broke paying for their bills after the caps ran out and are now poor as hell.
      Tell that to a child whose single mom works 2 jobs and is still living in dire poverty just to get a decent education.
      Tell that to a 90 year old black man who endured horrible racism and never thought he’d see the day when America would vote into the highest office another black man.
      Tell that to a student who just got a degree and is unable to find a job.

      Yup, they’re all just looking for government handouts and don’t want to work a day in their lives and never want to take responsibility for themselves. Such a joke that it almost can’t be taken seriously…..yet he said it.

      Hey Moderation, He’s right, and he shouldn’t care about the losers, and freeloaders that make up the 47%. That’s the problem with this country. To many people looking for a hand out, instead of looking for work. That’s why every level of government is corrupt. Anyone who runs for office, has to promise things to their constituency, in order to get votes. If you run on a platform that says, you’re going to fulfill the oath of office, you’d be lucky if even your own family would vote for you. can you imagine someone running for city office, that said they would only hire a police chief that would back up the second amendment rights of every citizen. They’d be laughed right out of town. Even though it’s the law of the land. But the reality is, that if you carry a weapon, without a registration, or permit, you’ll be fined, and or, incarcerated. Yet, if you exercise the right that the Constitution, the supreme law of the land, The reason we are called The United States of America, The one thing every state is united on, you may be punished, or even killed by the very people who have sworn a solemn oath to uphold, and defend it. The next amendment to the Constitution, should be to take the right to vote away from these leaches who are on government assistance. Then the thirteenth amendment should be repealed. It was never legally ratified in the first place. Romney definitly has my vote, and I hope he sticks to his guns on this issue. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!

      If you want the nice handout you won’t get by all means go with Obama, do you really think he is going to change for the better now after four years of doing nothing.He has only one objective for this country and that is ruin it.So if that is where you want to go fine!But remember if you make the wrong move it will be too late to change your mind Romney will not be there for you then you will have to fend for yourself.As far as myself goes I am not worried about anything,I will vote for Romney because he has common sense as compared to the imposter in our White House.My days are numbered anyways and I am not worried about my future.My GOD knows what is best for me.I wouldn’t want to live those long years without anything to look forward to to make my life at least a little a fordable to enjoy the rest of my life with.
