Source: State Department Considering Talks to Transfer ‘Blind Sheikh’ to Egypt

State Department Considering Talks to Transfer Blind Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman to Egypt, Source Says

The U.S. State Department is actively considering negotiations with the Egyptian government for the transfer of custody of Omar Abdel-Rahman, also known as “the Blind Sheikh,” for humanitarian and health reasons, a source close to the the Obama administration told TheBlaze.

The Department of Justice, however, told TheBlaze that Rahman is serving a life sentence and is not considered for possible “release.” Previous calls to the State Department were referred to the Department of Justice and so far, the State Department has neither confirmed nor denied the report.

Glenn Beck revealed the controversial news on his show Monday.

The Blind Sheikh is currently serving a life sentence in American prison for his role in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, but the newly-elected Islamist government in Egypt has been actively petitioning his release. Many have pinpointed a cause of last week’s unrest in in the country to be protests over the Blind Sheikh’s release — not an anti-Muslim YouTube video.

Citing the handling of the current crisis in the Middle East, and the administration’s explanation that an anti-Islamic video is to blame, Beck warned that the administration may be trying to initiate a “Bubba effect.”

“If this is true…I believe this administration is trying to initiate a ‘Bubba effect,’” he explained. “That is, the average person turning against the government, collectively…because no one trusts them.”

“No matter how bad a citizen may be behaving, the citizen’s reaction is worse in the Bubba effect. We have to be very careful America…because it’s going to get tougher from here on out.”

A veteran intelligence analyst and researcher for TheBlaze said he met with an official within the Obama administration who told him that the transfer of the Blind Sheikh to Egypt is something that is being “actively considered” by the administration as a solution to the ongoing crisis in the Middle East. His source asked not to be identified.

When asked if the transfer of the convicted terrorist was being seriously considered, the intelligence analyst said yes, according to his source, who stressed that the move, if executed, was not intended to take place or be announced until after the presidential election.

He also said it is likely that the riots and unrest in the Middle East are related to efforts pressing for the release of Rahman, not the anti-Muslim YouTube clip that the Obama administration is adamant sparked the chaos.

“When radical Islamists in Egypt were calling for the burning down of the U.S. embassy this past weekend, before the riots took place this week, they said they were going to do this to push for the release of the Blind Sheikh,” he added.

Rahman, or the Blind Sheikh, is the former leader of the radical “Islamic Group” in Egypt, which now holds 13 seats in the Egyptian Parliament. The Obama administration recently hosted a member of the designated terrorist organization at the White House, where Hani Nour Eldin met with senior State Department and Obama administration officials. Eldin reportedly urged the National Security Council to release Rahman during his visit, the analyst explained.

Former federal prosecutor Andrew McCarthy, who was the lead prosecutor in the Blind Sheikh case, told TheBlaze that he does not doubt the accuracy of the report, saying “there are very good reasons as to why it could be true.”

McCarthy explained that Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi has been calling for the release of the Blind Sheikh ever since he was elected earlier this year. He said it is a matter of “great importance” to the radical Islamists in Egypt and throughout the Middle East, adding that his transfer to Egypt would undoubtedly lead to the terrorist’s release.

“I think the plan has been to agree to the Blind Sheikh’s release, but not to announce it or have it become public until after the election. That is consistent with Obama’s pattern of trying to mollify Islamists,” he explained. “Obviously, they did not want this information to surface yet… but sometimes a situation can spin out of control.”

McCarthy also said the way the Department of Justice worded its denial may prove to be significant. The DOJ said Rahman’s “release” was not being considered, however, the question was whether or not his “transfer” to Egypt was being discussed.

“Islamists in Egypt have been advocating for his release since we arrested him in the summer of 1993 and have threatened and committed horrendous acts of violence to force his release,” the former federal prosecutor remarked. “The worst [was] in Luxor, Egypt, where 58 tourists and 4 police officers were brutally shot, stabbed and the attackers left behind leaflets demanding the release of the Blind Sheikh– some inside the torsos of the victims.”

Former State Department senior official Christian Whiton appeared on Real News From TheBlaze to discuss the report Monday night, and agreed that it is certainly a possibility.

“Unfortunately, I think it is [conceivable]. And it’s unfortunate because it amounts to negotiating with terrorists…but after all, this administration was inching closer and closer to some sort of trade of terrorists with the Taliban, so perhaps it’s considering the same with [Egyptian President Morsi].”

He also noted that the administration could avoid what he deemed “political suicide” by “whispering” to Egypt’s President Morsi that they can move in that direction after the election.

TheBlaze’s Buck Sexton noted that the transfer of the Lockerbie bomber was similarly unexpected.

“As with so many things in the Middle East, we’ve accepted the unacceptable,” Whiston remarked.

UPDATE:

Dean Boyd, a spokesman for the U.S. Department of Justice, has responded to TheBlaze:

“The assertion that the Blind Sheikh may be transferred to Egypt is utter garbage. The Blind Sheikh is not being transferred to Egypt nor is he being released. He is serving life sentence in federal prison. Suggestions that there is discussions to transfer or release him are absolute garbage and completely false.”

The State Department, which is allegedly considering the negotiations, has yet to respond.

  I do not believe ” that man” even made the video. There were so many aliases and counter stories to that video AND the issues disappeared – POOF -like ” that man” immediately after the video had served its useful purpose. Like the Zimmerman case. Like the Russian spies . All just ” too convenient.” This administration has alienated normal, patriotic Americans by their actions and policies. Hopefully this election will put an end to this Far Left Democrat Party now ” occupying” the White House.   DarkJello, glad you smell rat. By now it really should be stinken pretty good. NEWSFLASH – it’s not about the Video or Movie. Obama knew about the plan 9/11 attach on our Embassy 4 days before the attack occurred – (Cricket Sound) from the Administration and 4 lives were lost .
  
  To me this smells of treason and criminal neglect. Obama thought he could stop free people from criticizing Radical Muslims and end Free Speech at the same time. Judging by the comments of misinform posters – It may work for Obama. It will never stop me from voicing my free speech no matter how bad it smells.

I’ve talked with a few union guys around here who voted for him the last time, but will not this time. They just want me to name them in a conversation though. Reminds me of the guys I knew around here during the second Clinton election talking about how they would never vote for a Republican. When Clinton went into office Goodyear had somewhere around 1300 union employees, and the Steelworks had more than 1500. When Clinton left office Goodyear had under 500 union employees, and the Steelworks was gone altogether. Yeah, Clinton really did a lot for them. Years later some of the remaining Goodyear workers continued to say they would never vote for a Republican. Then along came John Kerry, and many of these Vietnam Vet union employees finally did vote for a Republican.

  Just like O’s message to Putin, that he would have more “flexibility” after the elections as if O knew/knows that he will be re-elected. A sitting member of Congress blocked the release of funding to the Palestinian Authority, yet Hillary had them released on humanitarian basis and Congress sat on their hands. The DOJ had video evidence of voter intimidation, but the DOJ decided not to prosecute. Our consulates and embassies are attacked, flag burned, soldiers attacked, and personnel killed, yet our government funnels billions of taxpayer dollars in aid to all these countries. Now the oh, so intelligent people in this administration feel that releasing a convicted murderer that it will appease the Muslim world. Really, did none of them see how effective the release of the Lockerbie bomber, on his supposed death bed, was?! When the blind sheik’s release doesn’t quell the violence, will they then release all the detainees at Gitmo? How much more sovreignty and leadership are they willing to give up in the hope of appeasement?

  @Doomytram – Yes, I remember the Dearborn Muslim attacks on the Christians and how the police chased the Christians out of the area in fear that the Muslims might become enraged and riot. I can’t tell if the Media is lying about the recent polls or if Americans are just becoming so stupid or distracted from the truth that they actually want what Obama is offering them. I know a few people who think Obama is the greatest thing since the iPod and no matter what I say to them, no matter what evidence I present, they don’t believe it. It is like they have been Lobotomized.
  
  If we release this guy to Egypt, it will be like pouring gasoline on a fire. This will be another sign that the US is weak and begging Islam to leave us alone. If we think it is bad now, this will be nothing compared to once he is back in Egypt.
  
  For those of you old timers like me, this reminds me of Battlestar Galactica (1980) where Obama is Baltar, Muslims are the Cylons, and America is the Council of the Twelve.   Let’s summarize. Remarks by an anonymous source “close to the Obama administration” (as if) is the interpreted by another anonymous “veteran intelligence analyst” (oh yeah, sure!) who said he met with another anonymous someone who said something about the blind guy. The best possible slant on that is to call it “hearsay.” An anonymous, said something to another anonymous source who talked to another anonymous source who talked to the Blaze. The rational interpretation is that this is so far out into la la land it ought to give you vertigo.

  I will state again that I am not a conspiracy theorist, but the massive number of these plastic boxes, probably PVC are stored on this property for some reason. That is a lot more than we would expect for a Tsunami, massive earth quake, combined with tornadoes and thunder storms should they all occur at once in a single location.

There is way too much going on for this all to be coincidence guys, seriously. Glenn’s hypothesis last night regarding the Ambassador, his comments today on radio, the breaking of this Blind Sheik release? And tie in the history of our Commander in Chief, and everything that has progressed from his administration from Eric Holder’s Fast and Furious to Muslim Brotherhood visits to the White House.   It may be his quickest opportunity (after the election) to cause massive civil unrest so he can declare Marshall law and suspend (permanently) the U.S. Constitution. If he loses the election, he will certainly do it for the same reason so he can remain in power forever. I understand that the DHS has just ordered another 250 million hollow point pistol rounds.   Do you remember where you were and what you were doing 26 Feb 1993? I had just stepped into the on post Burger King in Bad Kreuznach, Germany to order a late lunch. Apparently the bombing was in the morning here, and the others in line along with myself were stunned as we watched the Sat Net News broadcast on AFN showing the results and the injured and frightened getting out of the building with the obvious smoke stains across their faces especially at the nostrils. On my previous tour in tour in Europe the first time I drove to Paris there was a terrorist bombing in the distance while we were on the Eiffel Tower. At the time that was an almost daily occurrence. I had wondered when this would come to our country.

  PHILLIPWGIRARD, Excuse me for not making that clear. My first drive to Paris was when I was working in SHAPE, Belgium in ’86. That was on my second tour in Europe. The WTC bombing occurred during my third tour. But, I hope you enjoyed your time in Paris. I certainly did. We were about a 15 to 30 minute drive from the border, and only a 2 hour drive to Paris. Made it easy to get there for a weekend. Den Hague (The Hague) was about a 2 hour drive to the north too.

The Blind Sheikh is guilty of planning and executing mass murder. His intent was to knock down one tower so that it would fall into the second tower. They were “only” able to kill a few people and were very disappointed. Why is this repulsive maggot even alive? that alone is a disgrace, but we must get a position from this prostrating Administration as to their intentions – before the elections.

  The problem is no other news organizations are going to report on this. And remember, he is going to promise to tranfer him AFTER the election. He wants to stop the unrest that is going on no matter what it costs because it is making him look bad before the election.
  
  We need to make sure we are spreading this information around so people know what he is going to do, because I promise you, he will! Just like with Putin. MItt Romney MUST win this election or our country, as we know it, will be gone. Think about it, Obama has done practically nothing to stop Iran from getting a nuclear weapon (nor the deficit, spending, etc). You need to imagine what is going to happen if they do get nuclear weapons. Their goal is to spread Islam throughout the world. Guess what? When they have nuclear weapons, the world as we know will cease to exist. Everything must be done to stop Iran and Obama does nothing (it took him years to even increase the sanctions against Iran).
  
  Everyone should see the movie “2016: Obama’s America”. It explains everything Obama is doing. This is no longer about Democrats vs. Republicans. Democrats need to wake up to what this man is really doing. Do they (dems) not care about what kind of country their kids are going to inherit???   I have been following Glenn Beck for a long time and I wish I could tell you he is lying – BUT he is NOT. This is all TRUE and it makes my stomach literally SICK. I took Glenn up on the 40 days of fasting and praying last year and I will do it AGAIN. I will say – my prayers are being answered as I have prayed that “Obama be exposed for who he really is” and then if people STILL vote him in again – then I guess we deserve him.   Remember one VERY important thing. Obamao has the ability to sign presidential pardons for ANYONE. Holder arranged for Clinton to pardon a bunch of terrorists on his last day. Does ANYONE TRULY BELIEVE that Obamao won’t be signing pardons by the ream if he loses the election? You’ll see every minority activist, murderer, thief and drug dealer in custody walking out the door of the nearest prison with a pardon in hand. The ONLY hope for this country is for Romney to win the election and appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Obamao’s eligibility.
