This Is an Exclusive Sneak Peek at Joel Osteen’s New Book ‘I Declare’: ‘God Never Aborts a Dream’

On Tuesday, televangelist Joel Osteen will be releasing “I Declare: 31 Promises to Speak Over Your Life,” his new book aimed at helping readers delve into the Christian scriptures to find purpose and meaning.
The hardcover aims to explore God’s blessings in the areas of family, personal health, finances, overall individualistic outlook and overcoming obstacles — all important areas that impact individuals’ lives. This morning, TheBlaze has an exclusive look at the book before it hits shelves.
“I Declare” is broken into 31 segments, as Osteen uses the structure to encourage readers to focus upon one theme each day over the course of a month. Throughout the book, the faith leader, who serves as the senior pastor of Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas, works to inspire readers to examine their lives in an effort to attain self-improvement and a deeper relationship with God.
Individuals are encouraged to make specific declarations surrounding their personal lives and faiths. These proclamations are intended to help people progress in their personal journeys.
“I declare it is not too late to accomplish everything God has placed in my heart. I have not missed my window of opportunity. God has moments of favor in my future,” the introduction to “Day Four” reads. “He is preparing me right now because He is about to release a special grace to help me accomplish that dream. This is my time. This is my moment. I receive it today! This is my declaration.”
The chapter goes on encourage readers to abandon the excuses they may be giving for not accomplishing their dreams. Instead of avoidance, Osteen encourages people to push forward and to challenge themselves to succeed, regardless of the obstacles:
Many times we put off what we know God wants us to do. Maybe down deep God has been dealing with you about forgiving a wrong, getting back in shape, having a better attitude, spending more time with your family. Or maybe it’s a dream or goal that you know you should be pursuing, such as starting a business, writing a book, join- ing the choir, learning a new hobby.
You know God put it on the inside but so often we make excuses that hold us back. Things like, “I’m too busy. I tried and failed. I’m not that talented. They hurt me too badly.”
It’s easy to talk yourself out of your dreams and goals. Too many people settle for mediocrity. But the good news is God never aborts a dream. We may give up on them. We may quit pursuing new opportunities, quit believing to overcome an obstacle. But God still has every intention of bringing to pass every dream, every promise, He put in your heart.
Osteen goes on to write that, regardless of how long one has been putting a goal off, it’s never too late to begin making a person’s dreams a reality. While roadblocks and frustrations are a part of life, the pastor encourages readers not to get bogged down and to continue fighting for whatever journey they feel God-led to embark on.
Here’s more from the “Day Four” chapter:
Now you should rise up in faith and say, “This is my time. This is my moment. I’m not settling where I am. I’ve let excuses hold me back long enough. But today, I will take steps of faith to pursue new opportunities, to explore new hobbies, to break bad habits, to get rid of wrong mind-sets. I know it’s not too late to accomplish everything God has placed in my heart.”
If you have this kind of attitude, the rest of your life can be the best of your life. In the Bible when Paul told Timothy, “Stir up the gift. Fan the flame” (2 Timothy 1:6 (niv), he was saying, “Timothy, life is flying by. Get busy pursuing your destiny.” You have to stay passionate about what God put in your heart. Don’t let one disappointment or even a series of disappointments convince you to give up.
In the conclusion to “I Declare,” Osteen details his final thoughts about individuals working diligently to triumph over their life challenges. Throughout the book’s closing chapter, he uses Biblical examples and attempts to connect to readers’ struggles.
Rather than thinking good thoughts, the pastor says people need to “speak to” their “mountains” (i.e. life challenges). In doing so and in relying upon God, Osteen contends that negative thoughts and forces won’t derail believers:
Jesus said in Mark 11:23 (KJV): “Whoever will say to this moun- tain, be removed, and does not doubt in his heart, he will have whatever he says.”
You may be praying about things you should be speak- ing to. You don’t need to pray about that fear anymore. You need to say, “Fear, I command you to leave. I will not allow you in my life.” If you have health problems, instead of begging God to heal you, you need to declare to that sickness, “Sickness, you have no right in my body. I’m a child of the Most High God. You are not welcome here. And I’m not asking you to leave. I’m not saying, ‘Pretty please, do me a favor.’ No, I’m commanding you to leave my body.”
I’ve learned if you don’t talk to your mountains, your mountains will talk to you. All through the day, those negative thoughts will come. They are your mountains talking to you.
You can sit back and believe those lies, or you can rise up and declare: “I’m in control here. I will not allow my mountains to talk to me. Mountain, I’m saying to you,
‘Be removed. You will not defeat me.’”
Osteen urges readers to “declare” in “the authority of the Son of the Living God.” When individuals make such a proclamation over their lives, he claims that results will be seen. “No power can stand against God,” he continues, highlighting sickness, addiction, fear and legal problems as possible “mountains” that aren’t big enough to supersede the Lord’s power.
“Now, the mountain may not move overnight. It may look just the same month after month. Don’t worry about it,” he writes. “In the unseen realm, things are changing in your favor.”

Will Rick Warren talks about courage, when he host the debate between Romney and Obama? Is Rick going to ask Romney why the GOP doesn’t want to talk about Social Issues ( Christians issues )? But they want Christians to vote for them? Is Rick going ask why in our schools, Bible believing Christian children are classified as ( Not living in a reality-based environment, because they believe the Bible is the word of God?

Posted on September 17, 2012 at 1:26pmGotta be careful when I speak about other ministers. When I point a finger, 3 are pointing back at me. There are 2 types of promises in the Bible; conditional and non conditional. The vast majority are the former. The vast majority of people who claim the promises of God for themselves want conditional promises unconditionally.
Joel himself IS NOT a prosperity preacher, he is a user-friendly, seeker-sensitive preacher. What concerns me Patti Henry is that repentance is not required for salvation. Anyone putting faith in a message w/o repentance puts their faith in fools gold. It sounds good, but where is the brokenness over sin? He asks people to display their Bibles during the services but beware the preacher who does not preach the Bible! It scares me to think one can sit through a “sermon” and never hear God’s word.
Read his own words from his book; how many times did he use the word “my”? The Bible says that to be a follower of Jesus one has to die to him or herself. Following Jesus costs!
Shame on us if we think because Jesus bore a cross, we don’t have to.
We don’t have Jesus in our lives to have him build my kingdom, He is Lord! I am here to build his kingdom on the earth as it is in Heaven.

For example: 2 Corinthians 4:17 about how our momentary problems (will disappear in Eternity) and how they stack up comparing now to eternity. IT’S just a REMINDER. He can spend 30 minutes giving us examples of this and quotes Jesus’s words on this and then Joel encourages us to cast our cares on GOD; to thank God for working for our eternal Glory and thanking him for the Blessings in my life today. Sometimes it’s good to remember that no problem lasts forever and to cast my cares of my God and to refocus on
my trip, not the problem. I have plenty of other prayer moments in each week, but for this 30 minutes it’s like a hit of sunshine but no faux promises and never a quest for $$. I have heard Joel say that GOD has the path laid out for us and it may not include riches, that the point is for us t

But the cowards who run the the american church, is running a puppet show like the ( Fox News Blaze Media ) who promote Joel Oteen. Meanwhile over 150,000 Christians were killed last year for their faith. Over 200 million face daily threats of murder, beating, imprisonment and torture. Over 400 million Christians encounter discrimination in areas such as jobs and housing. Sad but God will judge them who pervert the Gospel of Christ.
Meanwhile the cowards who run the GOP, doesn’t want to talk about Social Issues ( Christians issues ), that’s all the Democrats talk about. And why Obama is winning in the polls. But meanwhile secular Rome is now burning around the world and Emperor Nero ( Obama ) is playing the fundraising fiddle around the nation. Obama’s Domestic Terrorist Network of Atheist Marxists. will win in 2012.
Meanwhile God will use Obama to destroy the atheist cowards who run the GOP, Obama’s Domestic Terrorist Network of Atheist Marxists and the coward Christian religious leaders who pervert the Gospel of Christ for money and power. I’ve heard this number used before, and done some cursory investigation. Many of these killings happened to Christians, not because they were Christian. For example, some of the killings included a nun being murdered by a drug cartel for talking to police. Her faith was not the reason for her death; turning on the cartels was. Another one was a missionary killed in India… again, not for her faith, but for defending the tribal underclass against mining interests.
Just wanted to give you a heads up, in case you get called on it some time :-)

While God promises to supply the NEEDS of believer’s [ Matt 6 : 25-34], He never promises to supply our WANTS [ James 4 : 3-4]. Contrary to what the Joel Osteen, Benny Hinn and other false teacher’s would have us believe God is not a “sugar daddy”, or a “genie in a bottle” and those who think He is know nothing about God, the real meaning of prayer, or true biblical teaching. Unfortunately, this afront to true Christianity is becoming more and more popular, by a generation more interested in prosperity than seeking the true face of God.

I pointed out in my original post to look at the prayer that Christ said in the garden before his capture and death. Pointing at another persons book or stating “many” references is not a Christian way to rebuke another. Either you are a worker of iniquity or you can point to the Bible (book and verse) to PROVE that what I wrote is wrong and against the teachings of Christ.

Posted on September 17, 2012 at 1:54pmThere are many definitions of dream 1. A wild fancy or hope 2. A condition or achievement that is longed for: an aspiration 3. One that is exceptionally gratifying: excellent or beautiful 4. To regard something as feasible or practical 5. To conceive of; imagine … etc.
I haven’t read Joel’s book but I would imagine that the above definitions are what he is referring to and the context I believe most people think of when using the word. Unless they purposefully specify they are referring to a literal nighttime.. sleeping vision.
I don’t differentiate between having a “dream” and God’s will for my life as my thoughts are patterned after His. Not to say that I am not human and don’t veer off on my own path on occasion.
I referred you to Strong’s but alas as I myself was scanning through the many verses noted … most of them do seem to be in the context of dreaming while sleeping. I do not have the time to go through every single verse listed so I will concede that point to you. If you sit around reading Strong’s Concordance AS well as others… well I am no match for you. You are FAR more knowledgeable than I.
I have a sneaking suspicion that you knew exactly what I was saying. MOST people do have dreams. Semantics..

It is interesting to note that you attack my original post without scripture then in your final post you talk about “Christian love”, as if to further disparage me without giving not one biblical point show that my original post we incorrect. I gave you plenty of chances to prove my point with scripture was unsound and to show where it was in the Holy Bible. You did not. Instead you pointed to “many” places and “Strong’s” (both of which I have read cover to cover) – this is not to say that I know scripture better than another, however, because I have allowed God to show me the life within the scripture he shows me how to discern incorrect teaching. You have not once responded to my original post referencing control of your life, or even how Christ showed us, which refutes what Joel has said. I say that God does not want YOU to take control of your life, let HIM do that (and yes, I can back that up with scripture – see original post, and what Christ said that we should do, i.e. Do the will of the Father). God wanted prosperity for every Christian is not only untrue, but not biblical. You can see that in the new testament in the Great Commission. Christ says not to be concerned with what you will eat, or the clothes that you should wear (or the love of money). This is why I can discern that you are a worker of iniquity – no, I do not know your heart nor claim to, however, I can point out that your post do not reflect Jesus Christ.

If you are looking for a fight.. you wont’ find it here. I absolutely did NOT question your entire post and as I said, I should have highlighted the aforementioned words. I thought my post spoke for itself but evidently it did not.
Did I say God wanted prosperity for everyone? I understand the concept of “surrender” .. Again, I do believe my post spoke for itself. How often do you read they bible? Do you look to the bible to affirm what Osteen says or do you just take him at his word for it. The bible clearly states in John 14:6 – Jesus speaking here, “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” This passage clearly states that Jesus is the ONLY way, though Joel Osteen doesn’t believe so. Here is a clip of an interview with Larry King Live showing he doesn’t believe that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKF_QgNezBY

Posted on September 17, 2012 at 10:02amHe writes these books to inspire people, but I’m not sure how this will help in
ones salvation though. It sounds like it’s more of a self-help for the Christian and
their daily walk. At least I hope that’s who he’s writing it for .I hate It when a
pastor declares “Its for everyone’ .because it shouldn’t be and cant be . If he
is true to the faith. Anyone that is NOT saved ,would be building on sand.
‘Priority one’ needs to have Christ “THE ROCK” ,In their life. This is the only
message he should be teaching them.. Because without Christ in a persons life
FIRST, the book is just stroking someones ego.
A person need Christ in their life FIRST .That is the foundation. Then you can build .

Posted on September 17, 2012 at 9:55amMeism- Jesus is weeping…this earth is temporary for those who believe but these false teachers preach a new gospel and it is sucking people right into the abyss of selfish dreams and drawing witch-endorsed circles around those dreams to further their agenda of me and wealth…while I am not against wealth that has been earned, the perverbial lining of these bullhorns pocket for their own glorification and elevation is nauseating.

Posted on September 17, 2012 at 9:49amThe man admits that he isn’t well versed in scripture or theology, but he does have a mesmerizing grin, a constant promise of prosperity, and the whitest teeth on the planet. One thing he doesn’t have anywhere in his church is a cross. You will not find the Cross of Christ anywhere – which is the distinguishing Christian symbol of a belief in a risen Savior, and used by Christians for 2000 years. You will find a spinning globe, and lots of collection plates.

Posted on September 17, 2012 at 2:24pmExodus 20 KJV Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: 5Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; 6And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
The “graven image” part is taken literally by many Christian (not Catholic) churches and you will therfore not see any crosses, etc., in those church buildings.

Posted on September 17, 2012 at 9:28amI have never been to one of Joel’s live services but have watched them on Tv. I have only ever seen him on for a 30 minute period. I am sure the entire service lasts longer so I will refrain from commenting on what he does or doesn’t preach as pertaining to scripture.
I agree with the things I have read here. Most people don’t realize the PoWeR of our words. The Bible says “Life and Death are in the Power of the Tongue and those who love it will eat it’s fruit.” Prov. 18:21.
There are many verses that SPEAK to the power that words carry. God “Spoke” the world into existance” etc. etc.
If you speak contrary to God’s Word in your life you are effectively handcuffing God and giving satan the authority to bring to pass what you speak.
I like Joel and appreciate the wisdom he shares.

The ONLY thing Christians take to heaven with them are the Souls they have won to Jesus!! How many have you all won????

I haven’t seen Joel either, but also I liked some of the things I just read.
That he has built an empire from his preaching, it’s for God to judge if it’s good or bad, and for men to choose on listening or not to Joel.
For me what really matters is the message, not the messenger.

Posted on September 17, 2012 at 9:19amJoel is an excellent motivational speaker who sprinkles his speeches with the word “God.” There is NOTHING Gospel about him. His congregation always walks away feeling “good,” because that’s his goal. So sad that thousands flock to that church every week to get their dose of “feel good.” I wonder if he would have the same following if he really preached from Scripture. We’ll never know.

Seems like he’s promoting a new book every few months,
which is “understandable”
as he has stated, they personally don’t “profit” off the church-
only the books that they write….ka-ching, ka-ching !
Rick Warren & his wife
& the Osteens
are as different as night & day-
in writings, teachings and lifestyle,
there is NO comparison.
The unpretentious Warren is the better Pastor AND person.

Posted on September 17, 2012 at 9:36amYou are certainly entitled to your opinion, and I actually agree with you to a certain extent. But I also understand that my understanding of the Gospel may differ from other people’s. And Joel Osteen’s brand of preaching brings in a lot of souls who might otherwise remain completely lost. It opens the doors in their hearts and minds that had previously been closed, and it invites them to look at the Holy Scripture for themselves when they would have wandered in the wilderness blindly without that open-armed welcome.
He is doing great work for the Kingdom because his warm smile and message of love and fellowship exposes people to God’s Word who might otherwise have had their hearts hardened and never been exposed to Christ’s Grace.
You and I can claim that he is “watering down” the message, or that some of the things he preaches are not Biblically sound. But I do believe that the good that he does by bringing lost souls into the light of Jesus’ teachings far outweighs the few problems I have with his version of the Gospel.
Finally, listening to him preach leaves little doubt in my mind that God is working through him.

Posted on September 17, 2012 at 10:16amI see. So, we should hammer unbelievers with promises of persecution and hatred. That will surely save their souls.
I think maybe we should allow the hard truths of Christianity to speak for themselves, while opening our arms wide to embrace our fellow sinners, sharing Christ’s love with them. If they experience the love of Christ and seek to know Him through His Holy Scripture, they will surely “get” the persecution and hatred soon enough. No need to push them away with our own brand of persecution before they even have a chance to know acceptance and forgiveness. We are called to save souls, not condemn them.

I totally agree with you. I know that Joel and Victoria are doing a great job for people who otherwise would not get near to GOD, from the teachings they now get in school to the media to all the other garbage they hear…JOEL is like a breath of fresh air. He is who he is and if they can’t get it, I’m sorry for them. I have watched and supported him for over 10 years… so I must have tuned in right as he was starting! I also love Charles Stanley (don’t watch anymore but use his INTOUCH MAGAZINE daily) and then of course my Catholic Faith which truly is MY ROCK. I look forward to this election ending and ROMNEY being PRESIDENT so I can take a break from some of this evil that slimes through via some of these trolls. I’ll buy Joel’s Book in honor of supporting what is meant for decency and to honor GOD.
