Egypt Issues Arrest Warrant for Pastor Terry Jones Over Anti-Islam YouTube Vid

Egyptian Government Issues Arrest Warrant for Terry Jones and 7 Coptic Christians

Egypt’s general prosecutor has issued an arrest warrant for both American pastor Terry Jones and the the creator of the controversial “Innocence of Muslims” YouTube video that is being blamed, at least in part, for riots across the Muslim world.

According to various media reports, Jones did not play a role in creating the film, but had a hand in promoting it.

The prosecutor’s office said in a statement that the accused– which also includes six Coptic Christians– face charges of harming national unity, insulting and publicly attacking Islam, and spreading false information.  The office said they could face the death penalty if convicted, but no date for the trial is set.

According to the Associated Press the case is “largely symbolic” because all eight of the accused are all believed to be outside of Egypt and unlikely to return to the country to face the charges.  Rather, they say, the prosecutor’s decision to take legal appears to be aimed at absorbing some of the public anger over the amateur film.

However, since the 2011 revolution in Egypt, the longtime ally’s relationship with the United States has grown increasingly strained.  President Obama went so far as to say last week that the United States doesn’t necessarily consider the newly-elected Egyptian government an ally, but we don’t consider them an enemy either (the White House later backtracked and said “ally” is a legal term).

Either way, the fact that the Egyptian government has now issued an arrest warrant for an American citizen for promoting free speech is unlikely to endear it to many.

Ultraconservative Salafi lawyer Mamdouh Ismail of Egypt praised the prosecutor’s decision, saying: “Now these are legal measures instead of angry reactions, whose consequences are undetermined.”

He added that this should also be a “deterrent for them and anyone else” who may consider committing a similar offense.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

I think “Pastor” Terry Jones is a blathering idiot. Having said that, it’s okay with me if the Egyptians want to send a couple of guys over here to try and pick him up.
I have had some experience with N. Florida people, and I can tell you that it is a different culture than the Yankee retirement-community misfits in S. Florida (Boy, that’s going to raise some flack).
I believe that a large number of panhandle folks would relish the opportunity to have a ‘conversation’ with a couple of radical Egyptian Muslims attempting to arrest a fellow American citizen.

I doubt it would be anything sanctioned “officially”, by Egypt.

He would be whisked away one dark night, and everyone would hear about him in an Egyptian jail the next morning.

Hey egypt get the trash off your third world hellhole streets and maybe you can be considered legitimate. I just issued arrest warrants for all the muslim men who rape their wives, murder their daughters, and attack christians. Ok? And the flag burners for disrupting national unity.

Yeah real effective huh? General Boykin said it clearly when he stated that muslims only preach tolerance when they are outnumbered. Cowards. Rock throwers. Flag burners. Skidmarks on the underpants of humanity. Eff off.

The PRez has given carte blanche to Interpol to arrest Americans on American soil for “crimes” they committed elsewhere.

The other big question — do we have extradition treaties w/Egypt and would we turn over “guilty criminals.”

      Remember Elian Gonzalez? I do.

Any nation that tries to arrest any American for exercising his freedom of speech, and freedom of religion, will have to answer to us other Americans first. Enough is enough. We’re not to blame for inciting anyone in the middle east. It’s not our fault that they’re a bunch of sissy, pansy, sensitive bunch that can handle a few harsh words thrown at them. Their uncivilized behavior, and dark religion, throws out any possibility that I would have mercy for them, sympathize their “struggle”, or care two bits about anything they think. America, we have NOTHING in common with those folks over there. NONE. As far as I’m concerned, they can kill off each other into oblivion. We’ll come and pick up the spoil later.

Jones will never go to trial in Egypt. Far likelier some local Muslim–perhaps a convert eager to prove his devotion to the faith?–will off him like the one who killed Theo Van Gogh in the Netherlands a few years ago.

The difference, of course, is that Van Gogh was a thoughtful and creative filmmaker who was trying to draw attention to Islam’s lamentable record on women’s rights. Jones is just a hatemonger.

      TaintedBlaKK,

Thanks for taking a minute to point out what should have been obvious, and wasn’t, to some of the posters.
Just in case they still don’t get it…, here is the Comment for Dummies version: I think that any independent attempt by two, self-identified Egyptian ‘police’ to arrest and remove the good pastor would result in a ‘freshening’ of the Everglades biomass. Since I would find such an event ‘interesting’, I have no quarrel with a couple of them having a go at it.
Got it? It’s called ‘satire’, and explicitly has nothing to do with black helicopters, etc., etc.

Thank heavens I didn’t post my favorable opinion regarding the release of “The Blind Mullah”. I suppose I *have* to comment now. I am certainly in favor of releasing the guy. We just give him a map, put an “I Luv Mohammed” t-shirt on him, and wish him the best finding his way home.

He’s exercised pro-hate propaganda, and if you’re going to come over with your “well he has freedom of speech” comments, you just better remember that your “free speech” is limited when it provokes violence. It is damn dangerous to invoke violence from Islamic countries, and believe you me, the day will come when we’ll have to bring out the nukes, because I doubt they’re gonna stop if we keep allowing the freedom of hate speech to continue in America.

Now I’m guessing the DOJ will seize him, and send him over to Egypt. And you’ll all….lol….sit on your hands because it’s what you do best.

I’m sure the libs would hand them over just to appease the monsters in Egypt. If we dont stand up for what our prez is doing to destroy this country and what it stands for, we will regret this in our dying days. Our children will blame us for not taking a stand to protect them! God help and bless America and remove the traitor-in-chief from office.

If the DOJ hands this man over to Egyptian authorities, there will be an uprising in America. And if there isn’t, America is beyond hope.

If I was a fairly wealthy and enterprising young Muslim…and I wanted to be famous and celebrated all over the Muslim world.

Then I might spend a few million dollars to hire a team of “specialists” to spirit the good Reverend away one dark night to a private jet bound for Egypt.

Imagine the good PR Egypt would gain by having this guy in custody. Even if they don’t kill him, they could have a show trial that would last months and be viewed by the entire world. Sure the US would howl, but as they say, possession is 9 tenths of the law.

They could sentence the guy to death, but suspend the sentence and exile him back to America…that is if appropriate foreign aid is forthcoming. Talk about a win-win situation for Egypt.

If I was Mr. Jones I would seriously consider personal security.

If Egypt issued arrest warrants for anyone who says/does anything that would go against Islam I think half of America would be on that list. And the penalty includes death? Tolerance my ass!

Sorry but our Constitution trumps Sharia around here. Those Islamists should just go F themselves and get over it. You don’t see Americans retaliating for the flag burnings and the Christians retaliating for Jesus in the urine do you.

Funny how Egypt releases an arrest warrant for Mr.Jones, yet daily many crimes by Islamic people directed at Coptic Christians goes unheard.
There are massive amounts of criminal acts committed by Muslims at Christians, where the government of Eygpyt did nothing.

Good luck with that Egypt. Checks in that mail Oh wait, it is Obama running things. I don’t support this “pastor’s” views, but support his freedom of what to say here. If our DOJ partakes in this, we have more than our election to worry about in next few months.

Translation Morsi can’t fix the economy.

    - The Egyptian economy will run out of Money in less than year. Inflation will go up & people will not be able to afford to eat.
-Devout Muslims from Saudi Arabia enter in sham marriages for summer vacation with Egyptian women, knock them up & leave and there “ain’t” cr/p that Morsi can do about.
    -The dog ate my homework.

Why is he a moron? To me, you’re just a coward who fails to tell it like it is. Everyone Knows that this so called religion is anything but. Radical murderers using a radical book. Isn’t this the pastor that wanted to (or did) burn the Qur’an? Fine by me but I say read it, don’t burn it and then put it up in the fiction section where it belongs. If you feel better calling him names before you condemn Egypt, good for you but you don’t have to. Sitting on the fence, not taking a side makes you the problem…at least I know where this pastor stands and he is Standing.
