Leading Islamic Organization to Renew Fight to Make Insults Against Religions an International Crime

As the Obama White House continues to insist that the unrest in the Middle East is the direct result of an anti-Muslim YouTube video, Reuters reports that an influential Islamic organization on Wednesday implied it will begin fighting to make insults against religions an international criminal offense.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has been pushing for an international blasphemy law for the better part of a decade, unsympathetic to countries like the United States that value the importance of free speech and thought.

Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, secretary-general of the OIC, called upon the international community to “come out of hiding from behind the excuse of freedom of expression.”

He insinuated that the anti-Muslim YouTube video and cartoons published by an Italian magazine portraying the prophet Muhammad represent a “deliberate, motivated and systematic abuse of this freedom,” and warned such freedom of expression may threaten global security.

Additionally, the Saudi Arabia-based Human Rights Commission of the OIC called for an “international code of conduct” for media and social media to make sure people can’t publish offensive material that may incite violence, just in case an international law against insulting religions wouldn’t be enough.

In the past, the notion of such an oppressive global law would have been considered absurd.

I say lets let them do it.
Then lets have them use their own monetary resources to build enormous prisons and send hit squads to the middle east to round up and lock away all Muslims, in the prisons they built and payed for, that say anything bad about the Jews or Christianity. That should take them out of commission.

  If they ever pass such a ridiculous law, then make it apply for all religions. Islmamist Imams continually bash Christianity, Jews, Hindus, Buddists and other religions. What”s fair for the goose is fair for the gander. They can’t have it only one way.

  Totally agree. Reporting aghast about a lack of freedom of speech, is not the same as promoting freedom of speech.

Remember to “translate” their words into what they are actually saying. Islam redefines words to mean what they want them to mean, often not even close to what we think they mean, and never bother to tell you they changed the meanings of the words.

Islam is the ONLY religion. Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, etc are not really religions as described in islam. So they are asking you, in effect, to cede your free speech to their shariah law’s interpretation. Once they accomplish that, they will demand you cede your religious freedom.

Sooooo, don’t go there folks!

  I know it’s easy to fall into this sort of thinking, however, I know many Muslims and they are all actually are very moderate, kind, courteous, outgoing, giving and extraordinarily tolerant. They joke about their own religion, customs, beliefs, culture and are understanding of things like somehow always being “randomly” picked for enhanced screenings at airports. Oddly enough they are all conservative, love maximal freedom, limited government, and REALLY want to eat bacon. They take part in Christmas celebrations (they get *very* into it and have a great time with everything from the gift shopping to the wrapping, etc…). They’re just folks, but darn good ones in my opinion. Another possible oddity is that they are all Sunni from Pakistan, but they claim that the radicals are viewed, in their areas of Pakistan at least, as something like we might view a (racist stereotype of) hillbilly or redneck here… someone culturally out of touch and holding onto way too much anger to do anyone any good. They often point out that Islam is not just a religion, it is also a moral code, legal system, code of conduct for military action, political system, monetary guideline, health and hygiene system and on and on… basically it’s everything wrapped into one name. They say that comparing a Muslim who adheres to just the religious concepts to one which follows it as a total life plan is borderline ridiculous.

  @GhostOfJefferson My most sincere apologies! I was attempting to say that my friends indicate that the radicals are like the “stereotype” of a hillbilly or redneck, not like “actual” ones you find walking around in real life. You know, the way they are generally portrayed in B movie comedies.
  
  I am a half-breed Choctaw Indian from Oklahoma who was raised in Texas, so I’m working that redneck thing perty darn hard myself. Everybody I grew up around is straight out of a Jeff Foxworthy “You might be a redneck if” routine.
  
  I didn’t mean any offense and if some was taken, it is a lesson to me to make my points a bit more clearly.

  I truely believe that Islam is evil. You can change the conversation all you like and talk about how nice the Muslims you know are, but I’m not talking about the people… I’m talking about the simple fact that the core and root of Islam is about forcing the will of Allah.   I’ve read the same disturbing stuff you very likely have about Islam. I’m not gonna claim any expertise on Islam itself and if I did, it certainly wouldn’t really add to the conversation, that’s fer sure. All I can speak to is pretty much what you summed up; There are indeed some actual real live moderate Muslims who completely disagree with those disturbing things which we’ve read about. I’ve seen them react first hand to stories about stoning people, killing those who disagree with them, terror attacks, etc… and they are sickened by it, embarrassed to be linked to it via religious ties and so on. I don’t know, maybe they wouldn’t be considered good Muslims by the radical types… I just don’t have that kind of insight.

If all Muslims are forced to accept all other faiths and stop killing Christians and Jews I think we can have a law that we stop bashing other religions. But the fact is the worst offender of all is Islam and they are the ones trying to force the rest of us to be nice to them. It must go both ways or it can’t happen.

  Um, no, the 1st Amendment applies no matter the conditions you set. We have no duty to agree to be nice, nor should we, vigorous debate is the hallmark of Western liberty. If Islam, Christianity, Judaism and The Church of the Subgenius all decided to play nice, that’s no excuse to violate the 1st Amendment with vile trash like hate laws.

  Secretary State Hillary Clinton and Pres O are busy apologizing because they have already agreed to UN Resolution 16/18 where the US and it’s citizens cannot say anything negative about Islam, favoring Islam over all other religions in the US. They sold us down the river. This implements Sharia law over the US Constitution and over our right to free speech in the US. Obama & Clinton MUST RESIGN NOW.

They all count on the liberals in our country to keep telling us that what we are saying is hurtful despite the fact that they would absolutely crush most liberal ideas and ideologies.
