Top NM Homeland Security Official Caught Trying to Take a Loaded Gun Through Airport Security

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (TheBlaze/AP) — Albuquerque airport officials say the second-in-command of New Mexico’s domestic security agency was caught trying to bring a loaded gun through a security checkpoint.

State Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security Anita Tallarico told Albuquerque Sunport police that she forgot to leave the weapon at home when TSA agents spotted it in her purse in a scanner Friday.

KOB-TV reports Tallarico told TSA officials she was distraught because she was going to a funeral. She was cited for unlawful carrying of a deadly weapon.

Airport police chief Marshall Katz says he’s not sure how a person of Tallarico’s position could make such a slip-up, but added that it happens frequently nationwide.

“Episodes like this happen on a regular basis nationwide, not just in Albuquerque,” Katz explained. “Should they happen, no, but they do.”

Tallarico’s gun was turned over to city police as evidence.

In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Find out more HERE.

    This is what happens in entitlement and elitist run societies. The “rulers” believe that they don’t have to,play by the same rules as the rest of us do.
    Start with Congress not held to the same standards and continue on to a totalitarian society.
    We must bring these people to account, or suffer much like Russia did and is,
    Lookk at Cuba, Venezuela, and much of Latin America to see where we are heading.

    Just to clarify a couple things; her Linked In profile says she is a Republican and secondly it is the state’s DHS (not federal).

    This is relevant and not surprising because most democrat politicians don’t carry guns, they pay other people to do it for them while simultaneously trying to take the right away from everyone else

    And why does a state need their own DHS? Granted, they just re-branded their Emergency Management department but last I checked homeland security is pretty well described as a federal function in the US Constitution.

      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      You are correct. Border security is a federal responsibility. However, the Feds have failed to live up to their responsibility for better than 3 decades. And of late they have come right out and said they aren’t going to do anything about illegal immigration. In fact, they want another open amnesty! And they even sued AZ for passing a law to help stem the flow of illegals into their State.
      If I were a Governor, especially of a southern border state, I would damn well have my own department as long as the voters of the State would go along. Arizona is going through the same thing with their SB 1070. I trust Texas is doing something as well but I honestly don’t know what they are doing.
      Cali will just carp about what a terrible thing it is, and how it’s bankrupting their State. Then ask for more Fed money to bail themselves out.
      On a separate note, if I were the Governor of NM this gal would be out of a job for incompetence. She’s the #2 LE officer in her department and she “forgets” she can’t carry a loaded weapon through a airport security checkpoint? Yeah, and there is this bridge that I happen to……Peace.
    Question really is, why does an office administrator need a firearm in the first place? Not a front-line officer. Any chance it’s fear of the populace?
      So with all this ridiculous pro-firearm ownership guffawing and galavanting on this site and you get pissed when a government worker owns their own firearm to protect themselves? I cannot even begin to point out the stupidity on this site, sometimes… It’s just too damn much.
      If you work for the government, whether you’re a janitor or a office worker, you should never be allowed to own a gun? Sounds like a violation of the 2nd amendment to me.
      Actually, as usual, you miss the point. The outrage is about the irresponsibility of this particular gun-owner who, of all people, should have known better than to try to take a loaded firearm through security. Her excuse of “oops, I forgot,” only highlights her irresponsibility as a gun owner.
      We supporters of the 2nd Amendment also happen to be big fans of personal responsibility. But then, I wouldn’t expect a leftist sheep like you to be able to grasp such a foreign concept. So, move along, and just know that “it’s a responsibility thing, you wouldn’t understand.”
    If this idiot “forgot” she had the gun on her, then take away her privlege to carry or even own a gun.When you have honest citizens trying to let law enforcement know they have a gun in their possesion or are simple crossing state lines, that get arrested for it, and this dumbass “forgets” and carries a loaded weapon into an airport,and nothing will happen to her.Voting alone in nov. wont right this sinking ship nor will it rid us of these idiots (TSA).
    How many of the 1.3 billion rounds of ammo that DHS just bought was he carrying?
    Seriously, folks, have you given that ammo purchase much thought?
    What purpose would justify such a stockpile of ammo, hollow points at that?
    Do you trust your government after seeing “Fast and Furious” and the disaster in Egypt, Libya and the rest of the middle East?
      My thought about the ammo is hollow points are outlawed by the Geneva Convention for use in war. Our soldiers are not allowed to shoot the enemy in an all out war with them but they have no problem using them on American citizens at all. There is zero chance a billion invaders are coming here from other countries so who do you think they are stockpiling them for? In fact even if a billion invaders from overseas did arrive on our shores bent on destroying us you guessed it. Our soldiers would not be allowed to use hollow point rounds against them. So I repeat. Who do you really think they are for? Better yet how can the government justify shooting American citizens with hollow point ammunition they are not allowed to use against the most mad dog evil invading armies the world has to offer? Even better still what does this imply about their contempt for US citizens that they do not have for invading armies?
    I’ve carried a concealed weapon in the performance of my duties thousands of times in the past. When I was in an official area where even I was not allowed to carry, I always had enough wits about myself to lock it away properly. Naturally, being in her position in NM, she is likely a Dem-wit which may explain a lot, but nothing more than a slap on the wrist will occur. But, what will happen to the average citizen who is caught with a nail clipper in their toiletry bag?
Its not a matter of forgiving her of a minor mistake on the job. This is serious enough to demand her immediate dismissal. But, we all know that will not happen.
