University of Fla. Student Allegedly Denied Entry Into Michelle Obama Event for Wearing John McCain T-Shirt

A student was allegedly denied entry into a campaign event featuring first lady Michelle Obama at the University of Florida on Wednesday because he was wearing 2007 John McCain campaign T-shirt.

The student, identified as Matt Pesek by Campus Reform, said he purchased a ticket for the event but was pulled aside and questioned by an official with the Obama campaign who told him the speech was only for “Obama supporters.”

“I was waiting in line wearing a ‘Gators for McCain’ shirt when a guy [representing the Obama campaign] comes up to me to just intimidate me,” Pesek told Campus Reform. “[He then] asks me for my ticket saying… this is an event with only Obama supporters.”

However, Pesek cites an email sent to the UF student body from the student government:

“The event is free and open to the public, but tickets are required for entrance,” the email states. “To pick up your ticket, you can visit one of the following locations beginning Friday, September 14th, at 10 AM.”

Notice how the email does not bar non-Obama supporters from attending the rally.

Pesek said he genuinely wanted to see Michelle Obama speak, so he told the staffer that he was not planning on causing a disturbance and even offered to turn his shirt inside out so he wouldn’t offend anyone.

“I just kept explaining that I just want to see Obama,” the student said. “[I] said I would even applaud for her.”

This is when Pesek says Jen Day Shaw, the dean of students at the university, arrived and told him that the Obama officials have the right to “refuse entry to whomever they want” because it was a “private event.”

The Leadership Institute’s Campus Reform has more details:

A university spokesman seemed to corroborate part of [Pesek’s]Β  story on Tuesday confirming the Obama campaign was given complete control of the event and the crowd.

β€œThe event was a ticketed, non-university function run by the Obama campaign,” University spokeswoman Janine Sikes added in a brief statement to Campus Reform.

Sikes stressed that β€œany UF officials attending the event attended on their own time” and denied that university officials or resources had been deployed towards the event. However, Pesek disagrees.

Pesek says it was the university that advertised the event to students. “I didn’t hear about the rally from the Obama campaign. I heard about it from people at the university,” he added.

The Obama campaign did not return Campus Reform’s calls or emails regarding the incident.

I remember Michelle stating ,.that she was never proud of her coutry until her husband got elected as President of the United States, well I was never ashamed of my country until Obama (Communist) got elected. Is that racist I don’t think so. Hell Herman Cain could out perform him with both hands behind his back, he has something Big Ears doesn’t have BRAINS and a BUSINESS background. And to boot his background is an open book no records LOCKED UP,NO BIRTH QUESTION, NO COMMUNIST MENTORS or Family members like Big EARS. Oh and one other thing Obama cannot count or knows American History. Obama is for “Redistribution” why doesn’t he help his brother that lives in a HUT…..not with his money maybe YOURS

The potus just said on Letterman that Romney was so wrong for this country because to be president ” you have to represent all the people, just like I do”. Amazing double standards are overlooked by the MSM and Obama and his cohorts are always, always given a pass.

If Romney prevails it will be a miracle because he is fighting the entire established media save Fox. The truth was definitely the first casualty in this battle.

I fail to see what their problem was with the shirt. McCain and Obama are both big Liberals. Anyone who supports McCain is a liberal….What was the Obama campaign’s objection to the shirt?

advice to mccain wearing t-shirter: try suing for discrimination. did it say anywhere that this was an obama-only event? wasn’t mho the speaker? SO, where’s obama?

If there had been a big red circle around McCain’s picture containing the diagonal bar (international “no” symbol) there would have been no problem at all.

Or, if **** was written across McCain’s face, that would have been acceptable garb for the event, too.

What if the poor kid didn’t HAVE any other shirt to wear? I find the Obamas and the Democrat Airheads to be the biggest elitists in the world, the most aggressive bullies, and the least tolerant of human beings (except for the Radical Islam crazies). Where does it say on the invitation/announcement that “proper attire” is required and defined? If this kid has any smarts, the rest of his University education will be gratis, compliments of the Obama campaign. He should sue them for trampling on his first amendment rights.

Just watched Barry on Letterman. He’s looking extremely thin, frail, worried, and gray-haired.
I think he knows his Presidency is just about over. One term, just like Carter.

When John McCain pretended to run for President in 2008, he acted like he was on Team Obama.
In my opinion, McCain threw the election. He wanted Obama to win, so I think the shirt was perfect for Moochelle’s event.
