In the wake of violent, lethal mob attacks on our embassies abroad, many Americans are asking “Where was our defense?” Among those were the Rieley brothers, two veterans of Middle East conflict. One is an active duty Marine sergeant, and has been for almost a decade. The other is a sergeant in the Army where he has served for over five years. Given their respective statuses, they prefer not to be fully named. The Rieley brothers have five deployments between them, Iraq, Guantanamo, and Egypt — and both have seen their fair share of insurgency and violent mobs. Given that, we decided to ask them what the military has in its arsenal for dispersing angry crowds.
“Every embassy holds a stockpile of necessary defense weapons,” the Marine says. “I am just not sure why they were not utilized in these recent attacks.” And they know what they’re talking about — they have both experienced the scenario before.
“I was personally involved in dispersing multiple violent mobs during my deployments,” the Army sergeant says. “There were never any casualties. We have the capability to defend ourselves non-lethally, if that is the tactic in place.”
The Marine, who has just returned from safe-guarding American interests in Egypt, gives some advice from the front-lines.
“A catch word for commanders in the Middle East is ‘hard target,’ as in make yourself a hard target. Posture has a lot to do with making yourself a hard target. If you look weak or unprepared, you are more likely to get attacked,” he explains. “Also, use aggressive stances and a harsh tone of voice. When a possible indecent looks to be forming, putting on body armor and becoming aggressive can actually go a long way in avoiding real violence. When the U.S. military takes a fighting stance, people take note.”
With that in mind, the Rieley brothers have assembled a list of the most effective, non-lethal tactical weapons the U.S. has in it’s arsenal. “We have used almost all of these weapons,” the Army sergeant notes. The Marine brother ads: “Lemme tell ya, they are effective.”

Sep. 20, 2012 at 6:10pmThis is the sort of thing that reminds me of President Eisenhower’s speech in 1961:
——————————-
“Our military organization today bears little relation to that known by any of my predecessors in peacetime, or indeed by the fighting men of World War II or Korea.
Until the latest of our world conflicts, the United States had no armaments industry. American makers of plowshares could, with time and as required, make swords as well. But now we can no longer risk emergency improvisation of national defense; we have been compelled to create a permanent armaments industry of vast proportions. Added to this, three and a half million men and women are directly engaged in the defense establishment. We annually spend on military security more than the net income of all United States corporations.
This conjunction of an immense military establishment and a large arms industry is new in the American experience. The total influence — economic, political, even spiritual — is felt in every city, every State house, every office of the Federal government. We recognize the imperative need for this development. Yet we must not fail to comprehend its grave implications. Our toil, resources and livelihood are all involved; so is the very structure of our society.”
In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military industrial complex.”
-Dwight D. Eisenhower, 01-17-1961

Sep. 20, 2012 at 9:40pm..How about we are “guests” in other countries? How about the idea that if you 50 US Marines to keep from being killed, perhaps you should just leave. If I’m in a room with people at 100 tables and the people at one table attack me and the people at the 99 other tables do nothing, I want nothing to do with ANY of them. The cancer of America MUST be removed from the Middle East. The Arab world does NOT need us,they can feed, clothe, educate themselves..the US is NOT needed. STOP ALL foreign aid, food, student visas, loans to ALL Middle East nations, Israel included. Let’s work on conditions in Oakland instead of Cairo for a change. Bring ALL the troops home from EVERYWHERE. We have “interests” instead of friends…well,I guess they have other interests,so should we.

What if we did leave and that table still wanted to kill us? So since we left, now they have time to gather allies and bully others into helping them… You can’t leave these people alone. We are being far too soft on them but simply leaving them alone will allow the bullies to come out who are at that table and gather a force to come see us here on our land

Sep. 21, 2012 at 8:50pmHey, Jim.
The “cancer of America”?
If we’re going to kill them, then kill them. If not, let’s get our guys out of there. America is not a cancer, but the so-called Progressive sociaism of George Bush and Barrack Obama IS a cancer.
Constitutionally protected freedom didn’t spread troops to foreign countries, “Progressive” policies did that. It’s the same Progressive policies that have turned our productivity inside out. It’s Progressive policies that nationalized the banking system, and forced the fractional banking system on “private banks” to control our money. You can’t call them private if they’re fully regulated, partially tax-payer funded operations, can you?
Progressives. Bush. Obama. Romney.
Obama’s also surrounded by radical Marxists. You know, the man who said socialism is a train station on the way to communism?

Sep. 20, 2012 at 7:06pmThey will absolutely be used against us. First most of the youngsters have little knowledge about the Constitution and even less about Posse Commitatus. The officers that get the legal briefs in their Captain’s Career Courses – the briefings are all full of caveats and waivers. For senior leaders (major’s going on Colonel), this kind of pap is being published and discussed: http://smallwarsjournal.com/jrnl/art/full-spectrum-operations-in-the-homeland-a-%E2%80%9Cvision%E2%80%9D-of-the-future#comment-form 5263
They always use the media to smear whoever the target is – Joe Blow, (unilaterally declared) enemy of the state is a pedophile, cultist, dog humper, child molester, possibly gay, beats his wife and every neighbor that the press can ask questions of thinks the guy is weird… all so that when they blow his head off (or burn him alive) the public just says ‘weirdo probably deserved it’.
but it’s a silly comment anyway – if the government is that far gone, why would it adhere to any rules or acts anyway?

The average grunt has been taught to do as he is told and any action against US civilians will be gradual but eventually will end with nothing left but mercenaries. The rest will be drummed out, jailed or killed.

Sep. 20, 2012 at 10:02pmYou are sadly mistaken. The U.S. Military has already been used against the Citizens of this nation on several occasions. Most notably was during the wake of Katrina. Service members were given orders to confiscate weapons from citizens. Some followed such unlawful orders thus violating their oaths and some didn’t. There are also service men and women performing unlawful checkpoint operations in a number of areas as well. The reality is that the state will encroach upon the Citizen incrementally over time like a hunter will incrementally put up a fence around a pile of food to trap wild pigs. If it is done over enough time, they won’t even notice it happening. Well, I’ll tell you what, the gate is on the fence and they are just waiting to close it with you inside. If you can’t see that, then you will be the one on a farm waiting your turn to be useful to your captor.

Sep. 20, 2012 at 8:19pmA story to tell.
When I was in the Army, in basic. A fellow that happen to be Hispanic wanted to be in the Marines. He was five two and a hundred and fifteen pounds. He had tried to enlist and they told him he was too damn little. He was the best solder through basic. He had put in a request for an inter service transfer and then he did one more small thing. When we went on our twenty (thirty two plus in seven hours and twenty minutes) mile hike with full pack, he asked to hold his M16 at port arms all during the day. He did it even during lunch never sitting or resting.
Needless to say the entire company wanted him to get that transfer. As far as I know he got it and became a marine. True story happened in 64

Maybe hand out pocket constitutions? Join oath keepers, encourage people to vote, encourage people to get engaged, learn US history, share important news topics with friends/family via e-mail, share your knowledge with facts. We should be joining forces for good, read your bible, lead by example…Fighting for freedom is a full time job many of our troops and their families could use support through WWP, Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society to name a few.
