  Should we look to kings and princes to put right the inequalities between rich and poor? Should we require soldiers to come and seize the rich person’s gold and distribute it among his destitute neighbors? Should we beg the emperor to impose a tax on the rich so great that it reduces them to the level of poor and then to share the proceeds of that tax among everyone? Equality imposed by force would achieve nothing, and do much harm. Those who combined both cruel hearts and sharp minds would soon find ways of making themselves rich again. Worse still, the rich whose gold was taken away would feel bitter and resentful; while the poor who received the gold from the hands of the soldiers would feel no gratitude, because no generosity would have prompted the gift. Far from bringing moral benefit to society, it would actually do moral harm. Material justice cannot be accomplished by compulsion, a change of heart will not follow. The only way to achieve true justice is to change people’s hearts first–and then they would joyfully share their wealth.

    Well said but a complete work of fiction. “Equality imposed by force would achieve nothing” There is no force, there is no direct redistribution of wealth. There is an interest in investing in the US in a manner more consistent with what our grandparent and parents did. Let’s be clear that income tax rates in the US are the lowest they have been since there was an income tax, particularly the top marginal rate. You see our grandparents and parents understood that good communities, good infrastructure, good schools, good colleges, etc. required self sacrifice in the form of paying taxes so that those collective things, that would benefit all could be achieved. So they graciously paid higher taxes than today’s rates so that for example in Ohio, 70% of the cost of college was paid by the state and on 30% came from tuition. Today, the state pays for only 17% of the cost of college and 83% has to come from tuition. What is clear is that we have a generation who benefited from college degrees that were heavily subsidized, but now feel no need to pay it forward. It is as selfish, self serving and despicable as the elderly couple in town who votes down all school levies once their children have graduated. Bush’s economic policies created a $1.2 trillion annual federal deficit run rate that he handed the PRESIDENT. And romney’s solution is to cut taxes, pandering to those who care little about their community, state and country

    Hang in there, we’re getting it back soon. Nov 6th is the day the Obama needs to start packing for his $12 million mansion in Hawaii. Looks like Obama got rich and made all his friends and cronies rich to. I bet he has 100′s of millions hidden in secret accounts. Solyndra was the tip of the iceberg, there’s Swiss accounts for everyone.

  I cringe when I hear fellow conservatives use the term “redistribution of WEALTH”. People who aren’t wealthy can’t connect with that because they don’t recognize that if the government can take from the wealthy, they can also take from the poor and middle classes, as FLDEB has explained. I prefer to say that they are taking the “fruit of one person’s labor” and giving it to someone that didn’t earn it — and they are doing it by FORCE! That’s STEALING! It’s the activity of a THIEF! Redistribution of income is just coveting and stealing on a societal scale!

  Too many poor, and now, with our modern entitlement society, even some middle class people, have been deceived into thinking that if they steal while hiding behind a shameless politician and using a government gun, it is acceptable to steal. It’s not! Stealing is still stealing, whether we use our hands, or a coercive, collectivist government gun to do it!

  Redistributing the fruits of one person’s labor to another person is NOT the proper role of government. Protecting the fruit of a person’s labor IS!

  Providing charity is the proper role of Churches and charities, and they do it through PERSUASION of the rich, not COERCION of the rich. Government charity (ie., entitlements) uses FORCE! Charity-based voluntary sharing transforms both rich and poor alike — for the better! Poor people become more grateful, and rich people become more humble and giving. Government entitlements can never do that!

    None of those are Obama’s Executive Orders. They were all signed by President Kennedy in 1962.

It talks about redistribution, not just within the USA but globally! He is so into Socialism and everyone being the SAME. Way to take away motivation and creativity and ability to achieve great things. Our country is doomed if this man wins again. SUCH a huge EGO! He calls himself PROGRESSIVE and talks about how the GOODIES will be passed out! He appears so worried about our foreign policy creating social JUSTICE in Muslim countries and the BIG MAN theory in Africa. I just feel bad for future generations. I hope they know we tried!

  Progressives and Collectivism is a mindset that needs to be clarified in the minds of many Americans.. Redistribution through the Government is not CHARITABLE.. It creates Big Government, creates and sustains dependency.. Redistribution is a feel good philosophy.. Very few Americans see it for what it really is Communism..

  I have used this and other situations to attempt to explain this common good crap to people and they just refuse to see how the logic correlates. Part of the problem is they never envision the collective taking from THEM, only giving to them. And the ones propagating the message envision themselves as the ones that will be the benevolent givers. The ones that will KEEP what they want before redistributing WHATEVER COMMODITY they have stolen.

  This guy needs to start a charter college the way we have charter schools and maybe, just maybe we would have college graduates graduating with their heads out of their @ss’s.
