Fox News’ Bob Beckel is known for making verbal blunders. There was, of course, this incident. And then this one. Oh and there was that time that he delivered an on-air apology after calling Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney a “punk.” The list goes on. But after last night’s episode of “The Five,” Beckel may find himself in need, once again, of delivering an “I’m sorry” to Romney after he suggested that the 2012 contender is part of — or “has” — a cult.
During a discussion about the Obama campaign’s electoral efforts, co-host Greg Gutfeld was discussing what he sometimes sees as cult-like behavior. In particular, the host was speaking about the campaign’s version of the American flag, repurposed with the president’s official logo.
Gutfeld turned the conversation to Beckel, asking if those claiming that the flag is an incidence of desecration are overreaching. The liberal commentator answered, but then quickly turned the situation on Romney, making what some will certainly see as an inflammatory joke.
“Yeah, they’re tone deaf. I don’t know a campaign that doesn’t use the American flag in one way or another,” Beckel said, then diverting to make a supposed quip about Romney’s The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints membership. “I know that Mitt Romney doesn’t have a cult — oh wait, maybe he does. I’m sorry, I take that back.”
The response from his “The Five” co-hosts was swift.
“You know, you’re going to spark a riot and someone’s going to get killed,” one of the hosts quipped, with the camera still focused on Beckel.
“What kind of cult would I be talking about?,” Beckel then added.
Others jumped in, claiming that, perhaps the cult Beckel was referring to was the “cult of very handsome men” or the “cult of jawlines and hairlines.”
Watch his comments and the hosts’ other reactions, below:

Sep. 21, 2012 at 9:01amThe Five is the symbol of Fox’s failing and falling status as a news organization. All were quick to ridicule Glenn Beck on the Blind Sheik story but strangely silent now that the NY Post has verified the same story. As for Beckel, the most frightening aspect is that he is the typical liberal, always willing to insult and attack anyone who doesn’t share his opinion. And, he is not the only liberal on Fox that does so (let’s not leave out Juan and Tamara). And, while I am not a religious person, I find it repugnant that so many are willing to attack Mormans. Its members seem to live their beliefs: they have strong family structure, the church helps its members in time of need and respect other religions. I was not initially a Romney supporter, the more I have found out about him, the more I find to like and he seems to be the right person at the right time to heal this country. Certainly a better option than our current president.

Sep. 21, 2012 at 9:36amThey were not ALL quick to go after Beck and the Blaze about the Blind Shiek.. Eric Bolling and Guilfoyle supported Beck and the Blaze and discussion of the story. Dana said nothing and Beckle and Gutfeld were doing the hack job of idiotic statements.
Now that Beck has been proven right, I wrote a letter to Fox and the Five DEMANDING an apology from the two men. I think EVERY Blaze reader should do the same. I cited all the other sources saying the same, NY Post, Weekly Standard, Commentary Magazine, Front Page Magazine, and even the House GOP letter of condemnation against the action.
Gutfeld is a heck comedian that uses inflammatory comments to try and make points but usually just sounds lame.
Beckle is just a left wing Carter/Clinton era ideologue that thinks he is smarter and better then everyone else but usually just sounds idiotic or puts his foot in his mouth because he is an angry recovering alcoholic.

Sep. 21, 2012 at 9:56amHere are the characteristics of a cult:
• Small? The Church of Jesus Christ (LDS) has 14 million members in 132 countries. In America, there are more Mormons than there are Presbyterians or Jews.
• Excessive devotion? Mormons are devoted to the Savior, but in appropriate measure He would approve of.
• Unethical techniques? Ask the pie-throwers to name one.
• Control by isolation? Even if Mormons wanted to, this would be impossible with 14 million members in 28,000 congregations throughout the world.
• Control by threats? Again, evidence? Mormon missionaries may be exuberant, but do not threaten.
• Dependency on the group? The Church of Jesus Christ (LDS) is just the opposite. Mormons want members to be self-reliant and independent so they in turn can help others.
• Powerful group pressure? Only if that’s the way the critics prefer to define love.
• Strange? Guilty as charged. Mormons plead guilty to all the strange things that were done by Christians in New Testament times that were lost during the great falling away in the aptly named Dark Ages, among them temple worship, baptism by immersion by the father of the family, vicarious baptism for the dead, definition of God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit as separate but united in purpose, salvation requiring both grace and obedience to commandments, prophets and apostles, unpaid clergy, and continual revelation to guide His Church.

• Small? The Church of Jesus Christ (LDS) has 14 million members in 132 countries. In America, there are more Mormons than there are Presbyterians or Jews. (you can have this one but only because it is impossible to the real number as so many do not “resign” due to social/family pressures)
• Excessive devotion? Mormons are devoted to the Savior, but in appropriate measure He would approve of. (the callings keep so many lds members so busy they have no time with family except for formal “family nights”. devotion to Joe Smith would seem excessive to many. “hail to the prophet” comes to mind)
• Unethical techniques? Ask the pie-throwers to name one. (lying for the lord, milk before meat, no knowledge of temple vows until the moment you are asked to affirm them)
• Control by isolation? Even if Mormons wanted to, this would be impossible with 14 million members in 28,000 congregations throughout the world. (no outsiders allowed in temple ceremonies. what other religion does this? and all religions have sacred ceremonies)
• Control by threats? Again, evidence? Mormon missionaries may be exuberant, but do not threaten.
• Dependency on the group? The Church of Jesus Christ (LDS) is just the opposite. Mormons want members to be self-reliant and independent so they in turn can help others. (not gonna touch this one as they all point to this)
• Powerful group pressure? Only if that’s the way the critics prefer to define love. (no room to finish,

They pay homage to Obama, like he is a god, and will not take off their blinders, to see anything else.
It is Obama’s belief, that Socialism is the way to go, and it does not matter how it is achieved, it only matters that it gets acheived. After all of these Cultists are dead and gone, what will be left is another Socialist failure, like a Greece.
Obama has wanted things to get worse, and now he wants things to get better, slowly, so he can put out his real plan (carrot), to take from a few, and give it away, until it is all gone. What has he got to loose? That is what he passed on to Putin, and others. He, if elected, will put the USA on a downward trajectory, that will put us in a lower standard of living, and less influential to the rest of the world.
This is what he believes!!!!
Please, people, stop playing xbox, texting, and only listening to ‘soundbite news’. Look up all of the current administrations accomplishments, in the past 3+ years, and see if they do not appear to be ones of a more controlling, immoral, backward, and in some degrees, downright evil.

Sep. 21, 2012 at 8:50amHey BOB, S-M-D! Most religions are cults as defined by Merriam Webster! I guess anyone belonging to any religion belongs to a cult, you doofus! ALSO, The Cult is an awesome band!

Sep. 21, 2012 at 8:59amI resemble that remark! lol How ridiculous can you be? To be technical, Mormonism long ago moved out of what defines a cult and became what defines a religion. That aside, as a “Mormon” I have gotten used to the ignorance but am appalled at those who claim Christianity but fail to emulate the Savior in their discourse and actions.
Bob Beckel uses things like this to dig at Romney and attempts to divide those who look for a definition of a Christian person instead of one who lives their lives to be as good a person as they can be. Why do you guys continually fall for it? I’ll choose to look for goodness in all places and in all people because otherwise I become an ideological idiot.
