In an election year that many are dubbing the most important of our time, the American peoples’ distrust in the media — the very entity that is intended to educate the greater society — is higher than ever. According to Gallup, 60 percent of the nation has very little or no trust for mass media to report the news in a fair and accurate manner.

The fact that six-in-10 Americans have such little confidence in the media is troubling, particularly in an important election year. As can be seen from the above trending data, trust, too, is at its lowest, with only 40 percent of the population claiming to have a fair amount or a great deal of trust in mass media.
Bias, of course, is nothing new, at least when it comes to public perception. But this data points to an all-time high for distrust during a presidential year. Gallup has more about the data at hand:
This reflects the continuation of a pattern in which negativity increases every election year compared with the year prior. The current gap between negative and positive views — 20 percentage points — is by far the highest Gallup has recorded since it began regularly asking the question in the 1990s. Trust in the media was much higher, and more positive than negative, in the years prior to 2004 — as high as 72% when Gallup asked this question three times in the 1970s.
These numbers become even more fascinating when one explores Republicans, Democrats and Independents. According to the proportions, Independents and Republicans are driving the decline in trust.
Only 26 percent of Republicans and 31 percent of Independents report having a great deal or a fair amount of trust in the media. Both are record lows when looking back to 1998 data.

Considering that the majority of Americans distrust the media, the natural question that comes next is — how many are actually paying attention, especially considering that it’s an election year? While Americans are less likely than they were in 2008 (39 percent versus 43 percent) to be paying close attention, the general pattern of increased engagement in election years continues.
Ironically, despite their mass distrust, Republicans are the most likely to be paying attention to news about national politics, as 48 percent claim they’re paying attention “very closely” to national political news. Democrats are the least likely, with only 33 percent reporting the same.

Sep. 21, 2012 at 6:21pmMost Liberal-tarians (especially the Rothbard/Paul/Rockwell strain)… are actually dangerous to this country (forget about the kook bit). Most Liberal-tarians are nothing more than selfish, self-important, self-aggrandizing, morally-reprehensible, morally-bankrupt malcontents and miscreants who tend to squeek when they walk. Being “THRIFTY” does NOT a Conservative make no matter how it’s spun by the “R3VOLUTIONARIES” for Freedom, Liberty and the American way.

Sep. 21, 2012 at 6:45pmThank you WOOL-FREE.
The bottom line for many Liberal-tarians is that they simply want their various ‘pleasures,’ be it consumption of porn or drugs or free sex, and they don’t want anyone denying them their right to get all they can. Of course whether we have a right to such things as porn is another matter. But for many Liberal-tarians, talk of freedom of speech and other red herrings are used to justify a life of self-indulgence and hedonism.
Liberal-tarians want no restraints on their appetites, no constraints on their lusts, and no checks on their selfishness. But no nation can long last that gives in to such irresponsible and reckless behaviour.
As the Apostle Paul so rightly warned, “in the last days perilous times shall come. For men will be lovers of their own selves … lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God” (2 Timothy 3:1-4). That sounds like a pretty good description of where we are at today with Liberal-tarians and the rest of the left.

Sep. 21, 2012 at 8:08pmFor the record, I happen to like marijuana and want it legalized/decriminalized (I don’t care for alcohol at all). But I put my selfish wants on the back burner and vote what is best for our nation, i.e. Conservative.
I am a fiscal Conservative, and mostly a social Conservative. I share a fair amount of ground with Libertarians (as do most Conservatives), in that I want the government to stay out of my life as much as possible. If I had my druthers, the federal government would be responsible for national defense, interstate highways, and a form of social security which would provide a return on my lifetime federal tax investment to help cushion my sunset years. Other than that, I think everything else should be left to the states to decide.
I recognize the need for a few federal agencies to help keep the country on course, like the SEC, the DOJ, the DOC, and the State Department, but their power should be limited to being imposed only when an issue is too much for states to handle.
All this being said, I am a proud Conservative and I believe that there are more Americans who think like I do than the liberal media would ever allow us to know. I also believe we are going to make a very loud statement in November that is going to shock the hell out of the indoctrinated minority who are so vocal because they feel empowered due to being over-represented by the liberal lapdog media.
If I’m wrong about that, God help us all.
