No Shame: Harry Reid Changes Line of Attack, Accuses Romney of ‘Manipulating’ the System

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney on Friday released his 2011 tax return and 20 years worth of tax-related data, immediately debunking Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s (D-Nev.) oft-repeated claim that Romney’s hasn’t paid any taxes in 10 years.

After poring over the documents, two fact emerged: a) the former Massachusetts governor has indeed paid federal income taxes every year and b) he donates on average 13.45 percent of his adjusted gross income to charity each year.

But rather than express some sort of embarrassment or remorse for accusing Romney of being a tax cheat, Sen. Reid decided to change up his line of attack and released the following statement:

The information released today reveals that Mitt Romney manipulated one of the only two years of tax returns he’s seen fit to show the American people — and then only to ‘conform’ with his public statements. That raises the question: what else in those returns has Romney manipulated? We already know Romney has money in tax havens in Switzerland, Bermuda and the Cayman Islands. What we don’t know is why he refuses to be straight with the American people about the choices he’s made in his financial life. When will the American people see the returns he filed before he was running for president? Governor Romney is showing us what he does when the public is looking. The true test of his character would be to show what he did when everyone was not looking at his taxes.

It’s also galling to see the creative accounting Mitt Romney applied to his own tax returns only days after learning of his insulting comments that seniors, soldiers and hard-working parents don’t pay enough taxes. Once again, we see Mitt Romney is out of touch with middle class families, who don’t have the luxury of accounting wizards and foreign tax shelters. It’s obvious he believes in two sets of rules: one for him, and one for the middle class. He says he wants to be president for only half the people but he acts like he only cares for the top two percent. Despite the fiscal cliff looming in just over three months, Mitt Romney refuses to explain the details of his tax policy. Will the policies he proposes benefit all Americans, or only multi-millionaires like him?

Okay, just to make sure we’re clear on this, the narrative is no longer “Romney hasn’t paid any taxes.” It’s “gee, he sure manipulates the system!” Got it.

“For the past twenty years, Mitt Romney has paid income taxes at an effective rate at least as high as what he paid in 2010, and often much higher,” Megan McArdle writes for The Daily Beast.

“Harry Reid’s friend was either lying or gravely mistaken, and Harry Reid should have known better than to repeat such nonsense without better sourcing,” she adds.

There are many “government officials from local to federal levels, whom hold power over “we the people” Granted, we gave them the power, however they still hold it.
The political class consists of many people from all walks of life, ages, mental capacities, morals, wealth, education, etc. These politicians mirror the ruled class, and in the sense are in the most basic terms, “they are humans too”. As humans they are susceptible to the same afflictions are other humans. In any human population there are a percentage of people who will develop mental illness, dementia, Alzheimer’s and many other types of brain deterioration caused mental disabilities. One should also consider other types of physiological disorders such as narcissism, megalomania, bi-polar disorder, schizophrenia, mad cow, etc.

So with this in mind so to speak, I ask the following questions

Do any of you readers have any knowledge; of a politician being removed from office due to a mental disorder?

Do any of you readers have any doubt that there are current political leaders in this country that have serious issues?

Please point out which one is Superman, how about Superwoman?

What is really insulting is that Nevada was removed from UTAH when Mormon’s where allowed statehood in the 18th Century. The territory was named Desseret at the time. Harry Reid is a follower of the same faith as Mitt Romney and is subject to the same criticism as he is leveling against the Republican Nominee for President.

Let’s demand that Obama show his college entrance applications and his grades and classes he took and who he took them with. Would PLO fundraiser Rashid Kahlidi show up on this list of colleges and classes.

I have no problem with Romney paying 13 – 14% in taxes I wish I could make enough money so as to qualify for that distinction. God has not seen fit to do that so far but there is always time in the future.

Between the two candidates for the presidency I will be voting for one who tells the truth and not one that EVOLVES his opinions over time.

Republicans & Democrats are so jelouse of Romney! The interest he makes each year is more of their net worth. Most of their net worth was made by dealing under the table and in cash in most cases. In 2010 Jo Biden gave $300.00 and Obama gave a little over $15,000 to charity. This year Romney gave 30%. What really ticks everyone off is he can’t be bought off – the Chicago way.

Romney plays a game. For the years he “allows” us to see he chooses not to take any charitable deductions. The choice to not take the deduction allowed Romney to inflate his tax rate to 14.1 percent. The difference between his charitable giving of more than $4 million and his claimed deductions of $2.25 million increased his tax bill by several hundred thousand dollars, as he paid taxes he didn’t have to on nearly two million dollars. He is, however, allowed to claim those tax credits in amended form anytime. Probably right after the election.

I will answer your question my friend. Many of the currently elected people in positions of power are completely insane. What is worse…is that the electorate continues to re-elect these mental cases to term after term. So the only thing sicker than these mentally ill politicians…..are the insane constituent districts or states that keep re-electing them.

For example…the city of Detroit….is part of John Conyer’s congressional district. Detroit has NEVER been better off two years later after the prior election cycle that Conyers won. Detroit has been on a downward trek and spiral for nearly 30 years…without a positive blip….30 years of straight decline…and yet every 2 years….and this November will be no exception….the denizens of Detroit will re-elect him once again. Why? For what reason? There can only be one logical explanation. That voters in his district….are more mentally afflicted than he is. The man can’t even keep his own wife out of jail…and yet again and again…he wins re-election. With not one scintilla of a track record that shows improvement in his own district from one term to the next. Not One. And yet because he is so “up there” in seniority every single union public and private will donate and contribute to his re-election campaign. Unions form all over the country. Not once in that equation is there any concern for his constituents….with their 7 thousand dollar average single family home prices. It is all utter insanity.

All of these politicians listed above made all their money stealing from the taxpayers and cutting deals that would allow them to use their knowledge to benefit themselves on the stock market.

Looks like Harry’s unnamed source was wrong. Of course, Romney filed income taxes all his life. It is only necessary, if that, to show the last two years–anymore would be a clear invasion of privacy. This man contributed an extraordinary amount to charity which shows his excellent character. I’d be surprised if Obama contributed anything to anybody as charity–he is always on the campaign trail seeking contributions to his own campaign, instead of tending to business at the White House. Harry Reid now says he manipulated the income numbers–Mr Reid is clearly without integrity. I can see why people don’t want to run for office–they are treated with vile accusations and character assassination before they even win the position. Romney is another Lincoln and if elected, he will give us back America–our freedoms–our liberties!

Boy PaulBots can’t seem to see much past their own noses…….Let me try and figire this oit Soy…by sandbagging the GOP candidate while giving Obama a complete pass is going to help turn the nation around how exactly ? Even if by some miracle performed in an alternate universe RP won the nomination and by another giant mircale he won in Nov would RP then be ablke to rule as dictator or would he have to deal with the rest of Congress (like he has been doing for the past 30 years fetting little if anything done). Tell me Soy how is letting a Marxist win better than a mildly progressive (but maliable) Repiblican ? Your logic and that of your compatriots is baffling to say the least and annoying as hell when the first step in this fight is to get rid of the Marxist first then deal with progressive elements afterwards. If the Marxist wins (with your help) there will be nothing left of the nation or the constitution you claim to love left……it’ll all be gone by 2016. Once debt to GDP reaches 120% the nation is lost. We are now at 100% debt to GDP….Greece is at 120%. I see a R/R Admin as far less of a threat than a second Obama term and that is the ENTIRE point. The turn around will take 3 or 4 terms of gard work to rid the political structure of progressives and Marxists so Soy are you onboard with that plan or are packing up your tent and going home because RP didn’t get the nomination ? What are you a fairweather Patriot or just an infantile whiner ?

Soybomb315_ll; Where do you get that Romney is “someone who is embarrassed of who he is and is not able to make simple pro-wealth arguments?”

You ask, “why do you guys always turn the issue around to a completely irrelevant one?” when someone brings up Kerry, Reid or anyone else attacking Romney. That is not an irrelevant question. Why doesn’t Obama bring up the fact that he is rich? Is it embarrassment? Why are the others attacking Romney NOT flaunting their wealth? The Pelosi’s are worth in the area of $100 MILLION; Kerry’s family is $600 MILLION; Reid is worth around $10 MILLION.

Are they, using your term, embarrassed by their wealth? Shouldn’t THEY be making pro-wealth arguements?

How do We The People know that THEY aren’t manipulating their tax returns? How do We The People know they paid their taxes? Or should we just take their word like they took Rangel’s and Geitner’s?

What is that one quote? Let he who is without sin cast the first stone… Perhaps the Progressives attacking Romney should prove that THEY are without sin before they open their mouths.

He’s not embarrassed, he is concerned that those in government continue to do what benefits politicians instead of the American workers.

Mitt Romney earned his wealth. How did Harry get his? He stole it from the taxpayers.

There are only a few good men who tread into the waters of politics, why?

Because it is full of lying, cheating, stealing criminals who pass themselves off as being better than everyone else.

Mitt is embarrassed that he has chosen to be in politics, not that he is rich.

This is why they wanted Romney to release his taxes knowing full well that Harry Reid lied they wanted to critize him for how much money he has made and how out of touch he is with normal folks, which I know that normal folks would love to make this kind of money but the point is Romney knew that all this information would do is give the talking heads things to talk about which will only work for a short time then they will be on to something else. This to me just shows me that Harry Reid lied he had no source telling him Romney paid no taxes. I assure you that Harry Reid has investments as well he is a millionaire too maybe not as much as Romney at least we don’t think so but he has alot more money than alot of people and he says he got it from investments well I would like to see how much charity he pays since he too is Mormon how much he gives in tithing.

It’s baffling to say the least….I can understand Pelosi winning time and again because of the area she represents (San Fran CA) but the folks in Nevada from what I remember are more of the rugged individual type, more in tune with conservative values than that of the criminals in the Dems ranks. With Nevada’s horrid housing market and double digit unemployment Reid should have lost by a landslide back in 2010. I bet the unions and other entities were cheating like crazy…If I was Romney I’d drop a hint that Reid will be investigated by the IRS and have the DOJ look into the 2010 election results.
