Discussing Newsweek’s recent “Muslim Rage” cover, Bill Maher said on his show “Real Time” Friday night that “most Muslims” think it is acceptable to kill someone they think has offended the prophet Muhammad.

Accompanied by MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, TIME’s Rana Foroohar, former San Diego Mayor Roger Hedgecock, and the author Salman Rushdie, Maher held up the magazine and said: “Most Muslims — at least half of them, I think, around the world — think it is ok to kill someone if they insult the Prophet.  And that is a big problem.  That is a clash of civilizations.”

Chris Matthews claimed Maher sounded like he was playing into Osama bin Laden’s “plan,” who he said wanted a West vs. East fight, and for Americans to confuse terrorism with Islam.  After Foroohar said she thinks the solution is for American officials to convey their messages more clearly to Muslims abroad, Matthews asked Maher whether he has ever lived in the Middle East.

“Of course not,” Maher responded with a face. “I’d be dead if I lived in the Middle East,” he noted.

Matthews continued: “I went over and I lived a month in the Old City of Jerusalem…you have the guys in the black hats, the ultra-religious Jewish people…the Islamic people praying five times a day– all intermingling in the streets.  Totally peaceful!  It’s totally getting along together, it’s [been] going on for 2,000 years.  People can live together with different religious beliefs.”

Without going into how Israel is far from “totally peaceful,” Maher simply said “not really” as Matthews finished his explanation.  When asked what his solution is, Maher joked that atheist beliefs would solve a lot of the problems.

At that point Salman Rushdie– who has been afraid for his life since Iran’s Ayatollah Khomeini issued a fatwa to kill him over his book “The Satanic Verses” in 1989– interjected to say he was “with” Bill Maher on the issue.

However, his solution is to start calling what he referred to as “politicized, manufactured outrage” by its true name.  We should not apologize, he says, we should say “would you stop winding people up” and “distorting facts.”

Also on Bill Maher’s show, former San Diego mayor Roger Hedgecock called Chris Matthews a “liar” for saying much of the reason Republicans dislike Obama is because of his race and background.

After Chris gave a lengthy speech on “the big lie” that Republicans say the poor don’t work as hard as everybody else, Hedgecock replied: “Chris, Chris, calm down, man. You’re just, you’re lying. I mean, come on.”

When Matthews continued to say references to the welfare state are part of a “racial game” the right has been “playing,” Hedcock said: “You’re just outrageously wrong, okay?

      It’s unfortunate this guy is such a blind follower of the head of one of the most dishonest administrations in history (why just last week they started a whole new pack of lies….)
      BECAUSE no one is listening when Matthews admits that the only place in the ME where there is peaceful tolerance is ISRAEL!

      And it looks like Maher has finally read the Koran, but he still is not letting anyone talk but Mathews.

      These guys seem a bit de-stablized. Their atheist idol has just been caught in spreading lies which are in turn stirring up more violence and endangering more Americans.
      SOO… Chris screams racial slurs and class-warfare propaganda– and Bill lets him blather on….

      I”m afraid the Athiest will now go after the Muslims and that’s not going to work out to well. If you think about it, who wouldn’t kill for 72 young Virgin girls waiting for you when you die. If you are a Muslim woman, you get 72 Young viral virgin boys waiting for you. It would be neat to see them at the pearley gates and refused entrance & sent aside to tthe Devil who is standing there with a smile on his face.

    Someone should have laughed at chris for his lived among arabs in Israel statement and told him to go try that in any other country in the M.E syria ,libya, iran, iraq, saudi arabia,pakistan or turkey and if he can’t send pics from his adventure maybe some of the locals will send them for him.

    Well, I just got back from Jerusalem and Matthews is right that Jews, Muslims, and the dwindling Christian populations get on within the city. That is because the city is holy to all three religions and even Muslims won’t terrorize in Jerusalem. I would ask Chris to go live outside Tel Aviv and see how well Muslims get along with Jews.

      That isn’t true. There are other races. And it is common perception that it is more of a minority problem. Or at least we can admit that the move vocal about these things attribute it in general to minorities, and they tend to link those concerns, such as with illegal immigrant like that.
      Besides, food stamps are the least of our concerns, and the least draining part of the national budget.

      Islam is evil, as socialism, it takes the individual and subordinates them to their leaders, not the other way around. If you believe in constitutional principals, you are in complete contradiction to this oppression. Don’t tell me that it’s just like any other religion – it’s based on hate, submission and death. Their text explains this in great detail. At least the bible and other basis for faith are truly divine, they empower the individual and freedom to believe. If God actually favors this domination, I’m with Maher, there is no point to faith; this is no God I recognize, it’s the definition of evil. Tolerance of different opinion or religion is divine, tolerance of evil behavior is complicit.

    I think that some of these rich leftists like Maher thought the decline of Christianity and freedom was going to take 50 or 100 years…..Now that it appears that it could happen in their lifetime possibly putting a stop to the large life they are living,they are getting very worried that they might have to life in the type of society they only had planned our grand children to live.

      …after WWII, the industrial world was in ruins..except the US..we took position to rebuild the modern world, feed it and give it a free democratic system. The modern world is rebuilt and can feed itself and the US has not been needed in it’s prior role for some time. It’s a bit like the kids growing up and not needing you as much and then not at all BUT you keep injecting yourself into their lives..you either end being hated or they live in the garage. We have managed to have both with the Arab World. I don’t care if 500,000 Syrians die in their civil war..that’s 100,000 less the we had in our civil war. We are guests in foreign nations, we have NO right to be there. If I am in a room with 100 occupied tables and 1 group from one table attacks me and the people at the 99 just sit there, I want nothing to do with ANY of them. So if radical Islam is a small group of the larger loving ,peaceful Islam but the larger group does nothing to stop the smaller…oh well. We have extreme religious here but we SHUN them, we ignore them, we don’t let them kill others…bring all the troops home, stop all aid/food/loans/visas to the Arab World…period.

      I dont think we should deal with them at thier own level, I think we should take it to a whole new level. It’s not enough to win the battle. Think of them as a mildly Retarded bully. Even if you win a fight with them, they just keep coming back for more, thinking it will be different the next time. No…what needs to happen is taking terrorism to new heights. They want to play this game, then we need to get our head in the game. We need to be so heinous, so brutally cruel in our dealings with them that they live in terror of us. It is the ONLY thing they understand. They’re so hot to be with Allah and die for the cause, we should accomodate them…in excess. Believe it or not, I’m a pretty laid back person.       I, for one, believe that even Bill and tingles are worth more than any Muslim. They are, after all, Americans, and I’d take ANY one American over 1000 Arabs or Persians. As far as atheists are concerned, they cannot be good Americans. They’re diametrically opposed to American values, .ie freedom of speech, freedom of religion. Atheists have been systematically removing much of the intent of freedom of religion since America was founded. Atheism is the direct cause of America’s decline. America’s schools were started for the express purpose of giving children the ability to read the Bible, teaching them honor, respect for authority, to read, write and perform better in a modern, new world. The atheists behind one woman, and nine black robed men who conspired to throw God from our children’s classrooms, are now reaping the destruction of America as she was founded. This is, of course, what they’ve wanted from the beginning. Like ALL haters of God, atheists believe that we’re nothing more than walking, talking cockroaches who’re ruining the planet.

And there was that guy named Pol pot that reduced his population by 2 million, just saying and I know not ever atheist thinks that/this way.     The feeling is quite mutual here. Most of us, truth be told, do not like very many of them at all and the ones we do like we do not trust at all. That includes Obama and his fringe groups. They do not have a monopoly on that corner of hate and distrust. At least Americans have given most other countries help, those Muslims are takers and wasters of what they do have. They waste the potential of all those people who could be doing something other than running around like a bunch of rabid schrews looking for something to kill. Stay your azzes out of our country.
