Egyptian President: U.S. Must Respect Arab History and Culture, Even if It Conflicts With Western Values

Egyptian President Morsi Outlines Future of U.S. Arab Relations in New York Times Article

Newly-elected Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi granted a 90-minute interview to the New York Times ahead of his first presidential visit to the United States this week, laying out the changing face of U.S.-Arab relations.

Egypt’s first democratically-elected president, Morsi has been affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood for decades. In fact, according to the New York Times, Morsi even spent time in jail during Mubarak’s reign for his affiliation with the then-suppressed group.

“I grew up with the Muslim Brotherhood,” Morsi reportedly explained proudly. “I learned my principles in the Muslim Brotherhood. I learned how to love my country with the Muslim Brotherhood. I learned politics with the Brotherhood. I was a leader of the Muslim Brotherhood.”

The New York Times has more on how Morsi says U.S.-Arab relations must change:

He said it was up to Washington to repair relations with the Arab world and to revitalize the alliance with Egypt, long a cornerstone of regional stability.

If Washington is asking Egypt to honor its treaty with Israel, he said, Washington should also live up to its own Camp David commitment to Palestinian self-rule. He said the United States must respect the Arab world’s history and culture, even when that conflicts with Western values.

“If you want to judge the performance of the Egyptian people by the standards of German or Chinese or American culture, then there is no room for judgment,” he said. “When the Egyptians decide something, probably it is not appropriate for the U.S. When the Americans decide something, this, of course, is not appropriate for Egypt.”

He suggested that Egypt would not be hostile to the West, but would not be as compliant as Mr. Mubarak either.

“Successive American administrations essentially purchased with American taxpayer money the dislike, if not the hatred, of the peoples of the region,” he said, by backing dictatorial governments over popular opposition and supporting Israel over the Palestinians. [Emphasis added]

When confronted about essentially removing any counterweight to his absolute authority by replacing the military leaders with men of his choosing, Morsi responded: “We are behaving according to the Egyptian people’s choice and will, nothing else — is it clear?”

Morsi also praised President Obama’s decision to act “decisively and quickly” in support of the so-called “Arab Spring” revolutions throughout the region, according to the New York Times. Apparently, Egyptians just want “the right…to enjoy the same freedoms that Americans have.”

One of the major topics of discussion seemed to be the Camp David Accords, and how Morsi believes the United States is not holding up its end of the bargain. Responsible for decades of peace between Egypt and Israel, Morsi claimed the treaty is “unfulfilled” because Palestinians have not yet achieved statehood.

“As long as peace and justice are not fulfilled for the Palestinians, then the treaty remains unfulfilled,” he stated, though he did not clarify what that means in terms of actual policy changes.

Morsi also discussed his time in California as a graduate student, reportedly saying “Go Trojans!” with a smile.

Apparently the Egyptian president praised American work ethic, punctuality, and time management. When the translator went so far as to relate that Morsi “learned a lot” in the States, however, the president was quick to clarify. Morsi interjected, saying he learned a lot “scientifically,” before lamenting loose Western morals and “naked restaurants” like Hooters.

IF Egypt is overly concerned about US values invading their country, Mr. Morsi may need to reconsider whether to take financial aid from the US.

As an aid giver, the US has every right to ensure its values are being protected and promoted. Our nation gives millions to Egypt.

Sorry Mr. Morsi but in the United States, we have a choice! We respect what shows itself worthy of respect and any country or belief system that treats women like cattle to be put to death at will is undeserving of respect……

Respect is a two way street. They must also respect our history and culture even if it conflicts with the Muslim so called values. We have a Constitution and if Muslims wish to live here in the United States they must respect OUR history and culture or they can ‘home’ to a country which will not conflict with their beliefs. However just because they are Muslim they deserve no extra-special rights either here in the USA or in their own country from our government. They are nothing to me and in my opinion their version of Islam is not only perverted and hate filled but is a crazy cult.

Morsi, you told the NYT the “US needed to fundamentally change its approach to the Arab world”. Let’s see, I’ve heard that phrase “fundamentally change” before….. Oh yea, it’s Obama’s key phrase. Mohamed (wow, how many ways can you spell that name?) uh, Mohamed Morsi, that was an awful choice of words, especially if you are attempting to be ‘reasonable’ with the US people. And it’s now “up to Washington to repair relations with the Arab world and to revitalize the alliance with Egypt…” so WE can offer YOU more money while seeing a wide angle view of Obama’s ****? And you’ve envisioned these two nations as “real friends”? Wait, wait, wait – what is your definition of “friends”?
Sorry the money till is empty (ob spent it all and a ship load more), the entire US is angrier than a pack of hungry rabid dogs when it comes to giving you people ANYTHING, so we’ve decided to drill in Alaska, and get rid of Obama, therefore we don’t really don’t have anything to “reasonably” discuss.
Perhaps later when you remove your head from the ass of the Muslim Brotherhood and you abandon your obsession to blow Israel off the map, we will send you a Christmas card (no money enclosed). Until then, Eat Sand.

Their false vision given to them by a “doctrine of demons” will fail, and they will fail with it. Allah/Lucifer will have his short moment. 1/4th of mankind is about to die over the span of about 3-1/2 years, until the Angel rising out of the east, and his fellows, remove the Elect of Christ from the earth. 1/3 of the population will be destroyed during the NEXT 3-1/2 years when God JEHOVAH pours out His wrath upon the earth. HALF of the world population will be killed in a 7 year period. Horus(antichrist) is about to RE-manifest once more upon the earth. Another name for him is Apollyon. “The angel of the bottomless pit” aka “The king of the underworld”. He was cast into a pit and covered with sharp stones (pyramids?) and darkness that he should see no light. Osiris and Azazel are likely the same entity. I was stationed in North Africa-Morocco for years. Those towel heads are all not very far removed from their caves and their tents. Their mentality is still back in 600 AD or thereabouts. SCREWEM all and their BS……take all our embassies out in the entire mideast and the hell with the thought of teaching these goat humpers democracy…..let them go back to their caves……

What a convenient memory lapse. Recall all of the times that the Israelis and the PLO reached agreements, only for the PLO to violate them. Mr. Morsi is playing games, as do all Muslims. A central tenet of their religion as stated in the Quran is that it is permissible to lie in order to achieve Muslim political or military objectives. I want to see Mr. Morsi go to paradise where he can enjoy among his virgins Madelaine Albright, Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Candy Crowly, Maxine Waters, and Elton John (could not resist the last one! Besides, they love their camels.)

Do not trust anything they say. To adapt an old American Indian saying, “Muslim speak with forked tongue.”

What makes Egypt’s newest terrorist President think that we don’t respect his culture? Some idiot publishes a cartoon about Mohammed and Egyptians get crazy and start riots. Another idiot makes a movie and again Egyptians and all other Muslim countries protest, burn riot and attack. (Never mind that the riots started on 9-11, that is a coincidence according to Obama and company IT WAS THE MOVIE!) Egyptians overthrow their government and they protest, burn, attack, rape, riot and we call it the great “Arab Spring” where democracy is breaking out. It seems to me that no matter what happens in Egypt their people are going to protest, burn, attack, riot, kill and complain about something that they think America has done to them. No matter what happens Obama and the U.S. Government stand ready to hand them BILLIONS of taxpayer dollars yet Egypt isn’t satisfied. They will continue to protest, burn, attack, riot and kill westerners and dictate what we have to do to please them. Yet we continue to send them more and more money year after year. According to Obama, Clinton, Senators and media pendants it is a very complicated situation that American’s simply don’t understand. I say it is an easy problem to fix… Egypt you go ahead and protest, burn, attack, rape, riot and kill American’s and we will keep our money. Problem solved!

Wait……did I just read what I thought I read?. This man, a “thug”, who is demanding that we the WORLD BANK, start to do not as they suggest, but as they say?. We’re to DROP our way of life or Constitution, and our MONEY to this tin pot thug and all of his gang. This is one of the same gang[stars], that Obama wants to see in power on that area….all for the reason, to do away with Israel. But, with that said, (we) Obama, has allowed his boys….his Muslim buddies to start to get the UPPER HAND, not only in there area, but to start there demanding(s) on [US]. I, have said this before, if this man….Obama, is voted out of office, we, will be in big trouble!……it’s starting and we WILL watch it happen, if we’er, not paying attention!
