13 NYC Public Schools Now Offering Morning After Pill to Students — Without Parental Consent

NEW YORK (TheBlaze/AP) — File this one under “controversial.” The New York City Department of Education is making the morning-after-pill available to high school girls at 13 public schools.
The DOE says girls as young as 14 will be able to get the Plan B emergency contraception without parental consent.
Parents have been notified about the CATCH (Connecting Adolescents To Comprehensive Health)Â pilot program and how their daughters can opt out of it. The New York Post has more about the controversial program:
It might be a nationwide…The National Association of School Nurses could cite no other school district supplying Plan B.
So far, during an unpublicized pilot program in five city schools last year, 567 students received Plan B tablets and 580 students received Reclipsen birth-control pills, the city Department of Health told The Post.
This fall, students can also get Depo-Provera, a birth-control drug injected once every three months, officials said.
Oral and injectable contraceptives require prescriptions, which, in the CATCH program, are written by Health Department doctors.
City Council Speaker Christine Quinn says she supports the program because high school students are sexually active and getting pregnant.
The city says about 7,000 girls get pregnant by the time they reach the age of 17. It says more than half choose to get an abortion.
NYC schools already distribute free condoms to students.

Posted on September 24, 2012 at 8:34pmMy daughter, is being treated for acid-reflux, she had to get a doctors prescription for Tums and my wife had to take the Tums to the school nurse with the proper paper work. OK, that’s stupid enough.
But the school can kill My grandchild if they feel like it, because we didn’t opt. out. Who knows how this B.S. program is going to be run. Your damn right we should take the law into our own hands, the left is just asking for it on this one. This better never happen to me or my family or I may forget about being a Christain long enough to take care of business.

The Federal government cannot be sued unless it allows it. Not so for prog teaching establishment.
Pretty pictures of a dead school age child would be so gut wrenching. So many pills, sop many children, a death is bound to happen. There is nothing we can do beforehand given the power of the Teachers unions, Demoncats & Complicit Media.

SCHOOLS ARE NOT DOCTORS and shoud not be allowed to treat children as patients of any kind what so ever. This is practicing medicine withouth a license and is ILLEGAL.

Posted on September 24, 2012 at 9:12amDefine “help”, please. This is a powerful drug, and you would justify someone giving to YOUR DAUGHTER, without your knowledge? And don’t get holier-than-thou about how you’re such a perfect parent, and know everything about your kids, and anticipate their every desire, need and want, and won’t miss something. So let’s put the shoe on the other foot.
Let’s say, you’re a parent that doesn’t take your child to church, or educate them on all their religious choices But, the school offers them a Bible class, or Muslim studies, and enrolls them without your permission. I’m sure you would THANK THEM, Right? LOL!

Posted on September 24, 2012 at 10:21amThere are plenty of parents trying to raise their childen to have good values and morals, but when the schools and places like planned parenthood are giving them an early sex education and more or less condoning the act of sex, it’s confusing to young minds. A lot of children have a natural intinct to rebel against their parents thinking their ideas are too old fashion. Peer pressure is a very strong force and parents have a very tough fight here, so don’t be too quick to criticize all parents. I agree there are some that don’t need to be parents.

What’s the moral of the story here?
If you are able to (or can find a way gto be able), Get your kids out of public schools. Deny the state the ability to destroy them. It’s that simple. It’s difficult in practiice, but the comcept is simple. Your kids will get a far better education, and there will be no “progressive” so-called teacher twisting their moral and ethical compasses due south. Don’t let them get hold of your kids.

Maybe coat hangers, but probably IUDs with cherry bombs attached. I understand they are really creative in NYC and into high tech.
@COMINGUNGLUED: “Why don’t they try to keep their legs closed?”
What for? Remember it’s NYC the home of A. Weiner. I think a hot dog with **** on it should be the new state symbol. Big soft drinks are illegal, getting caught with a Bufferin tablet in school can get the student suspended. However, girls are awarded gold stars and given abortion inducing pills after having unprotected sex. NYC, a very progressive city and NY a very progressive state with a bunch of real looney citizens and even nuttier politicians. What do you expect?

For those parents who want to fight this…”practicing medicine without a license” is their only defense. This is the one precedence that judges will actually hear.

Posted on September 24, 2012 at 7:33amHaving lead a Mayberry RFD childhood, public school participation in distributing birth control to students is indicative of the path society follows now. The schools must distribute birth control due to the public school system knowing the endless parading of sexual material to children results in pregnancy. The school system wants to eliminate the end result in promoting early sexual activity and make every thing tidy. To the schools, it’s housekeeping.

I don’t know about you, Blazers, but when i was 14 years old, I was busy doing homework and helping out mom and dad at home, riding bikes all over the county with my friends, and swimming. I know I know….sounds so Mayberry these days. But Children need to experience childhood before they experience adulthood.

Posted on September 24, 2012 at 7:35amExactly. Heck, when I think back to school in the 90s, we didn’t sleep around or similar. In my entire school with roughly 800 students there wasn’t a single teenage pregnancy during my entire time. It just didn’t happen.
Why?
Because we still had parents who did their job: parenting.
We also didn’t have a media trying to sell whoring around as something good. We didn’t have retarded leftists who thought everything should be free. We had leftists, sure, but back then they were smarter and significantly more reasonable than today’s generation of red fascists, probably because the memory of the Iron Curtain was still very fresh in those days.
Heck, I’ve been a voluntary paramedic for 20 years. I’ve seen the differences every day. In an intact family, where parents are actually parenting, this is no issue. In the families that live off welfare (and make good cash off it in my country) such issues are common. Why? Well, because you get 150 Euro per kid, per month, 14 times a year in my country.

Posted on September 24, 2012 at 7:40amAddendum: I got out of school in 94. Almost 20 years later, when I look at the schools in my country, or our neighbors… I’m shocked. Same with parents. Teachers have no authority anymore. Kids do what they want. They get drunk (to the point where they end up half dead in hospital), sleep around, etc. Parents have no authority anymore either. But many parents I’ve dealt with as EMT just don’t care anyway. Put the responsibility on the school, on the government. The result of this is that a growing number of kids coming out of school in my country fail at basic math and basic German. They can’t be hired for anything. They are simply too stupid for any decent job. And then they whine about not getting jobs and that gets the leftists outraged and use it to win elections. The same leftists who worked on destroying intact families and working school systems and replace them with the chaos that creates the issue int he first place.

another thing we need to remember is that all of the colleges that produce teachers are, for the most part, progressive colleges. So we have teachers coming into our schools who are credentialed in leftist curriculum with most of those teachers having a progressive mindset. IMHO, the whole educational system needs to be overhauled from grad school on down. What our young people are being brainwashed with is the concept that there really aren’t any standards. Everything and anything goes. That is what I call abusing Liberty and it will be the death of America. When people live in a society where anything goes, all they have is hedonistic humanism. True Liberty requires a Standard. That Standard is God. Without God, where is good?
