See the Surprising Poll That Has Romney Leading in a Key Demographic
Since last week’s release of a series of YouTube videos showing remarks by GOP nominee Mitt Romney behind closed doors at a spring fundraiser, the mainstream media’s favorite meme (as well as the narrative advanced by the Obama campaign) has been the accusation that former Governor Romney is out of touch with the middle class in America.
If that’s true, the middle class apparently hasn’t noticed. A recent poll conducted jointly by George Washington University and Politico reveals that middle class families not only don’t view Romney as an enemy, but actually favor him for president by an astonishing 14 points. From the analysis by the poll’s authors:
The past several weeks have been filled with news stories, editorials and columns heaping criticism on the tactics and strategy of the Romney campaign.Β Many of these opinion pieces even suggested that Romneyβs only hope for winning is to make substantial changes to his campaign.Β Much of this analysis is based on the premise that Romney is out of touch and has not been making an affirmative case to middle-class voters. His comments at a private fundraiser in May were pointed to as an illustration that he could never identify with and win the support of many middle-class voters.Β We took a special look at middle-class voters, and middle-class families in particular, in this latestΒ POLITICO-George Washington University Battleground PollΒ and found that not to be the case. In fact, on every measure it is Romney who is winning the battle for the support of middle-class families.
Overall, Obama leads Romney by just 3 points on the ballot (50 percent to 47 percent) β which before we rounded up, is actually a 2.6 point lead and only up a half-a-percentage point from the 2.1 point lead for Obama in our last Battleground poll in early August.Β In our latestΒ POLITICO-George Washington University Battleground PollΒ with middle-class families, which comprise about 54 percent of the total American electorate and usually split in their vote behavior between Republicans and Democrats, Romney holds a 14-point advantage (55 percent to 41 percent).Β Middle-class families are more inclined to believe the country is on the wrong track (34 percent right direction, 62 percent wrong track), are more likely to hold an unfavorable view of Obama (48 percent favorable, 51 percent unfavorable), and hold a more favorable view of Romney (51 percent favorable, 44 percent unfavorable) and Paul Ryan (46 percent favorable, 35 percent unfavorable) than the overall electorate.Β These middle-class families also hold a majority disapproval rating on the job Obama is doing as president (45 percent approve, 54 percent disapprove), and turn even more negative towardΒ Obama on specific areas; the economy 56 percent disapprove; spending 61 percent disapprove; taxes, 53 percent disapprove; Medicare 48 percent disapprove; and even foreign policy 50 percent disapprove.
Romney, by contrast, leads President Obama among middle class families not only in absolute terms, but also on issues. On every issue except one — ironically enough, the question of who would “stand up” for the middle class — Romney leads the president, in some cases by as many as 9 points (as he does on the economy). This juxtaposition suggests that the middle class trusts the President to fight for them, but don’t necessarily think he would win that fight, or prosecute it successfully.
Romney also attracts 40 percent support from the Hispanic community – a relatively high number for a Republican – and leads Hispanic men by even wider margins. And for those who are worried that this election is becoming too much about Romney and not enough about Obama, there is some very good news as well:
Presidential reelection races are almost always about the incumbent and whether or not they should be given an additional four years in office.Β This race looks to be no different.Β There is no sign of any good economic news on the horizon and two-thirds of the American electorate is focused on pocketbook issues as their top concern.Β Fifty-seven percent of these voters disapprove of the job the president is doing on the economy, 62 percent disapprove in his handling of the budget and federal spending, and 54 percent believe that Romney would be better at job creation. Yes, Romney has the issue advantage with these pocketbook-focused voters, and is winning their support by 53 percent to Obamaβs 44 percent.
One note of caution: The poll does show the president leading overall among likely voters, though by a scant 2.6 point margin, which is within the 3.1% margin of error. This is most likely due to a 2 point lead among independents generally — a deficit which is not impossible for Romney to make up with a few good performances in the debates.
You can get additional insights into the poll over on the blog.

Wow, “Magic Underpants”. Is that the best you can do? The country is headed off a cliff and the best you can come up with is lame, stale, Anti Mormon bigotry? It would be one thing if you had come up with something original like, “Mormons want to cook and eat black babies,” or “Mitt Romney is going to have the Mormon Prophet move into the White House so he can have his palm read every morning.” Something new, exiting. You had the whole world at your finger tips and the best you can come up with is ….magic underpants? Pathetic, weak, unoriginal. Oh wait, you are a moron. Well done!! Gold star for you!! You spelled everything correctly!! Major accomplishment.

Posted on September 24, 2012 at 8:15pmYour vote should be personal and your business. So why should people tell strangers, who telephone them wanting to know whom they will be voting for? Instead of saying none of your business, they politely say I haven’t decided yet.
So that is why, there are so many Undecided voters because it is none of the political polls business, which politician they are going to vote for… Very simple and I am positive they know already for whom they will vote but again that is their private business….

And that’s his intent. If he can keep us poor and needy, we’ll follow his rules, and believe me, his rules is to put us all back on the plantation; while keeping his wifie in expensive clothing ($7,000 blouse) and lots of travel at our expense while telling us lies. If this is what you stupid people want, more power to you, I want off the plantation to take care of myself with my own efforts.
What that woman spends on a blouse would feed my family for over a year, carefully shopping. So don’t tell me that man isn’t using us. We’re dumb to take it.

Posted on September 24, 2012 at 1:33pm47% favorable for Obama is still too much for me, how can anyone approve (45%) of his job, when every single thing in this country is going in the wrong direction, prices of everything are going up by the month. The Middle East is a mess, our national debt is 16 trillion with a T, and our outstanding obligations are like 100 trillion, ss is going broke etc. etc.
So what I am saying is, that this is all a result of letting the Federal government into our EDUCATION, and as long as we donβt fix that, and in my opinion close the whole Department of Education nothing will help, we will still be on course of decline, and it will just come a day when only 20% will understand the greatness of the our constitution, which is anyway being ignored and no one even cares.
I canβt stress it enough AS LONG AS WE DONβT TAKE THE EDUCATION SYSTME OUT OF THE HANDS OF BEUROCRATS nothing will help, only more and more people will think that redistribution is a good idea. And the polls prove me right.

He’s been there and struggled. One of the students pointed out that Obama is wealthy as well. Our teacher pointed out that there is different kinds of wealthy. Obama deserves his because he earned it. I pointed out that America is in economic trouble with a staggering unemployment rate. Exactly, how many people has Obama employed while earning that wealth. I don’t mind Romney being THE boss because he’s been a boss. Obama acquired his wealth through the cult of personality. He’s famous because he’s famous. He capitalized on it. Other than that, he’s done jack squat. And it shows. I own property, have a family to support, have run my own business and intend to do so again. Although, if they don’t fix Obama care it will be a one-man operation. Now, of the two candidates, which one understands me?

We must break out. THIS CERTAINLY WILL NOT BE DONE WITH A PRESIDENT ROMNEY AND THE DC PUBBIES. We are going to have to go big. We must follow the example of our Founders. They too were a small minority. But they won the day by putting it all on the line. So many of our spokesman still think the country can be moved back to the Right and to sanity. Not the way we are presently going.
I used to wonder about Germany in the thirties. How could a whole people go so stark raving mad? It seemed such a mystery. It was a mystery only because I had failed to fully comprehend the awful darkness human society was capable of. I had failed to grasp how tenuous is the human condition. In the short time since Ronald Reaganβs presidency we have journeyed as a nation the same distance into madness that the Germans transited in the thirties. The Left owns the media, the bureaucracy, academia and everybody on welfare. They have a near absolute lock on the culture. Even if by some odd chance that Romney wins the election all the above will still be true.
