See This NJ Homeowner’s Outrageous Front Yard Sign: ‘House For Sale By Owner Because My Neighbor’s An A**hole’

Editor’s note: A photo in this story contains strong language that will be offensive to some readers.

As many will tell you, selling a home in this economy can be hard to do. It is likely even harder when you advertise one of your neighbors as an “a**hole.” Who would want to live next to someone like that?

However, a New Jersey homeowner did exactly that, posting an attention-grabbing sign in the front yard of his for sale home.

“House For Sale By Owner Because My Neighbor’s An A**hole,” the sign states:

New Jersey Home Owner Sells House Because of A**hole Neighbor

(source: Huffington Post)

The Dennis & Judi show on NJ 101.5 FM were originally sent the image by a listener, according to the Huffington Post. The link to the radio show’s website was not working at the time of publication.

Here’s another example of a homeowner who resorted to extreme tactics to sell their homes via HuffPo:

Ellie Zober, an Oregon woman who found out her husband was cheating on her, included the rather personal information on a For Sale sign of her own.

“I’ve gotten calls from Sweden and Scotland and Ireland and a man from Japan called to buy the house,” Zober told ABC News Radio. The family is trying to avoid foreclosure and admits the sign is purely for exposure, although the story is also true.

[...]

But as these creative sellers prove, the journey can certainly be hilarious. On the other hand, eccentric ideas and signs could backfire. After all, “My neighbor’s an a**hole” is not exactly a ringing endorsement for a neighborhood.

Years ago back home, we had a problem with our next-door neighbor, a serving school board member at the time. People called him ‘Honest Abe’ behind his back, and my Dad was warned when he and my Mom bought the lot. Before too long, he was coming over on a regular basis with ‘gifts’. A full box of nails here, a brand new shovel there, until the day when my Dad was at work, and the bastard tried to put the hits on my Mom. Anyway, a few years later, my folks decided to put up a six-foot stockade fence alongside his property..(he already walled off the side of his open porch facing our property. What an ass!). Not too much longer afterwards, I was outside weeding, and he told me he was having trouble with skunks in between the fence and his hedges. I told him, “Yeah I know Mr. Brocki. Us too. That’s why we put the fence up”. (…an unexpected snippet from Haina Valley.)

Exactly, same here – wish my house would have sold but living next door to a weirdo does not do much for my resale value.

Know how they feel – have a Metro Housing rental next to mine and they pi**ed me off on their first day by dumping their cat litter boxes on the property line next to my driveway (10 feet from my house) and had my last nerve stepped on Labor Day weekend by them letting their little rat bast**d dog bark all day and half the night 7 days a week all summer. Long story short, after 3 visits from the police and me being cussed at by their 12 year old son in between while his parents sat there and let him do it I have had some peace and quiet since. Typical welfare trash – don’t work, steal from the neighborhood, trash all over the yard, smoke dope on their swing and it drifts into my house, etc. Tried to sell the house, but gee, no offers – can’t understand why! Should be legal to burn the house when they aren’t home………….

    Just sayin………

Make their life a living hell …. calll the police and animal control at every opportunity. Give them good reason to say that you are the ******* living next door. It’s about time that we turned the tables on those that only wish to sponge off our good nature.

if you can stand it, there is a clicker thing that goes off every time the dog barks. You can put that on their side of the house, There are also whistles that only dogs can hear…get these things from reliable pet store…don’t trust on line hype.
I think the health dept would be good for the kitty litter and you could mount a camera so they’d know
you are scoping it out. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could invite them to church though and get along?
there is also high shrubbery … you might spend $$$ on water and fertilizer..but a nice tall hedge (several layers thick) sure solves a lot of neighbor problems…as do fences. Just don’t let them make you ill. Isn’t it a shame…we all have so few years on this planet… besides, the plants could help improve your landscaping! Put in 20 gal. or is it 25 gallon plants so they grow fast…Maybe fence first. GOOD LUCK!!!

      @ERP,
I’m an a**hole because the last 7 renters in that house were ALL on welfare, trashed the place, and the last 2 were dealing dope there (I got them ran out by the way). Come live in my town, a once great town that has been taken over by welfare trash and dope dealers that I have to support on a single income working 2 jobs all the while driving the value of a house that I worked my **** off to pay for – sorry to say YOU had better wake up and look at the real world – 90% of them are nothing but blood sucking leeches who take advantage of a system that rewards laziness. Don’t believe me – come here and take a look!

      Patty Henry,
Already did the fence deal – woking on landcaping for next year. Thr cops did a good job for me (for once) about the dog – haven’t had a problem since Labor Day weekend. As far as the cat litter, I wen’t to the health department and they did absolutely NOTHING to help (democrat) – ended up jumping his a** when I caught him dumping it one day. As far as asking them to church right now I am between churches and these people are DEFINETLY not the church going type – more interested in letting their kids swear at me and smoke their dope. My next step is the landlords – I want to know why they can’t seem to get better people in that house – really just want to hear their excuses for my own amusement! Thanks for the suggestions – read my mind on the cameras – already have them in the works!

we understand. those poor dear sellers. we struggled thru 12 years trying to ignore a psychotic IL neighbor. entire sheriffs dept, 2 sheriffs and 2 states attys and 1 judge even partied at our house.. but their hands were tied, she knew just to the inch what she could not do.
the next owner? we learned it took the poor seller 6 YEARS to sell the house — with the psychotic one scaring away all the potential buyers. — so no clue what kind of HellsAngels biker must have bought our beautiful house, someone very unafraid of the psychotic woman across the road shooting out the living windows and screaming at your guests…
