The Interview With an iPhone 5 Buyer That’s So Mind-Numbing You’ll Think It’s Staged

Let’s start this article off by saying the man behind the interview you’re about to see swears it’s not staged. That’s important.

Why is that important? Because the interview is so incredible you’ll think it was. How is it incredible? Let’s just say it’s not evident if the woman seen waiting in line recently outside a NYC Apple store really understands what she’s doing, why she’s doing it, and what exactly an iPhone is — let alone what the Internet is. But alas, the video below picks up as a woman named “Rachel” has been waiting for two days to buy an iPhone 5. By the end of the conversation we know she doesn’t like the Internet, she begins calling the phone an “Apple 5,” and that she’s not afraid to put a lot of money on her credit card.

We could explain more, but it’s really best to just let you watch:

The interviewer, Sam Roberts, works for the popular “Opie and Anthony Show.” And the YouTube video description says, “This woman is not a plant, she is a real person, and she is brilliant.” But the question remains: Do you believe that?

  This girl is like all the kids coming out of our colleges. I bet she thinks by buying these phones she is helping folks here have a job. Jobs yes – in China. We invent this kind of stuff and then have it made in some other country. Apple could just add $ 50.00 extra for it to be made by US unions techs.and these idiots would gladely pay for it. I have a 5 year old US Cellular Cell phone and it has internet. It sounded like she thinks it is the first to have internet axcess.   This is pretty pathetic actually, the Blaze interviewing probably 50 people and then, when they sound clueless, posting the video on the internet in order to humiliate her and give you fodder for ridicule. Even by Blaze standards that’s pathetic. How you love ridiculing people. Make you feel superior doesn’t it? This woman is so stupid, but you’re so smart! This video made you feel really good about yourself didn’t it? Do you ever wonder why you feel good about that, rather than feeling sorry for this person mocked before the world? What does that say about you?
  
  Sadly, she represents most American consumers, especially younger people with disposable income. They want the “latest thing” whether they really understand why they should buy it or not. I take it the posters here don’t have much disposable income – maybe you’re among the people who don’t have $600 to spend on a cell phone? Part of the 47%? Don’t you hate it that you don’t have this woman has.
  
  I fairly up-to-date with technology but I bought an iPhone without really knowing much more than that other people rave about it. And I love it now that I know what it does. That phone leaves my old phone in the dust. But the iPhone 5? I’ve heard it’s thinner and lighter, but I’m not inclined to buy it.
  
  In any case, don’t you get warm and fuzzy inside knowing this woman, with money to spend, is so stupid, and you are so smart. Doesn’t it feel good to mock her? Aren’t you glad to see her

I guess you didn’t bother reading the article to learn that this “reporter” was Sam Roberts who works for the “Opie and Andy Show” and the video itself was re-posted from YouTube.   If the question is how many Internets exist (uppercase I) then it’s probably most accurate to say one. If the question is how many internets exist (lowercase I) then I agree with DABRAIN that there are more than one.
  
  VOTEBUSHIN — It’s not a question of internet being a network of networks. There really are other ways for computers to communicate that will NOT traverse the thing we are using right now to discuss this. There are, in other words, other internets in the world. You need special protocols to use them; you would not connect to them using your ISP, your ISPs DNS servers, routers, etc. These are specialized internets built for specific reasons (like defense, education, governments, etc.).

  As a regular listener to the O&A show during my daily commute, I can confirm that this is real. Sam’s a pro. He’s been with the show for quite a while going back to the days when he was an intern. Every time there’s a new iPhone, he ventures out to conduct these “man on the street” interviews and purposefully goes out of his way to present them in their entirety so that nobody can claim they’re a setup. They played this on the air the day after he taped it. Opie and Anthony were as shocked as everyone else that the interviewee could possibly be so dense.
