Biden 2004 Flashback: Declares America Must Win ‘Death Struggle’ With ‘Radical Fundamentalism’

Biden On Middle East Turmoil in 2004 Declares America Must Win Death Struggle With Radical Fundamentalism

The DNC Convention in 2004 was ripe with criticism of George W. Bush, but few speeches were more scathing than that of Senator Joe Biden.  Biden, who was serving on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee at the time, blasted the president and the increasing instability in the Middle East.  Biden declared that the “overwhelming obligation of the next president” was to “win the death struggle between freedom and radical fundamentalism.”  Biden also decried America being “alone” in the world and “less secure” before delivering the zinger: “it is only leadership if someone follows — and no one is following.”

Given the current state of the Middle East eight years later, one might ask, Where has this Biden gone?
