Krauthammer Lambastes Obama’s ‘Bumps in the Road’ Comment: ‘If Romney Had Said That…It Would Be a 3-Day Headline’

Krauthammer Lambastes Obamas Bumps in the Road Comments | Arab Spring

President Barack Obama’s comment about the Arab Spring encountering “bumps in the road” has caught the ire of conservatives. The critiques have been especially pronounced, considering the death and destruction that has resulted from violent events in the Middle East of late.

In addition to Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, commentator Charles Krauthammer has also weighed in, lambasting Obama over his statement, which was made during a recent CBS News interview.

To provide a brief recap, the drama unfolded after Steve Kroft of “60 Minutes” asked Obama, “Have the events that took place in the Middle East, the recent events in the Middle East given you any pause about your support for the governments that have come to power following the Arab Spring?”

The president’s responded, discussing the “bumps in the road” that have unfolded in the Middle East of late. To some, like Krauthammer, this statement diminishes what has occurred in Egypt, Libya and other localities (the killing of U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and the desecration of the American flag at numerous locations).

Here’s Obama’s full response to Kroft’s questioning (emphasis added):

“Well, I’d said even at the time that this is going to be a rocky path. The question presumes that somehow we could have stopped this wave of change. I think it was absolutely the right thing for us to do to align ourselves with democracy, universal rights, a notion that people have to be able to participate in their own governance. But I was pretty certain and continue to be pretty certain that there are going to be bumps in the road because, you know, in a lot of these places, the one organizing principle has been Islam. The one part of society that hasn’t been controlled completely by the government.

There are strains of extremism, and anti-Americanism, and anti-Western sentiment. And, you know, can be tapped into by demagogues. There will probably be some times where we bump up against some of these countries and have strong disagreements, but I do think that over the long term we are more likely to get a Middle East and North Africa that is more peaceful, more prosperous and more aligned with our interests.”

Krauthammer commented about Obama’s “bump in the road” comments, distinguishing the events that have unfolded in the Middle East as very serious and warranting a label above and beyond what the president gave them. In a panel discussion on Fox News, the commentator unleashed his views on Obama’s statements.

“If Romney had said that the death of our ambassador, the attack on our embassy, the death of three other Americans, the hoisting of the black al Qaeda flag over four U.S. embassies, and demonstrations all over the Middle East all the way to Indonesia including a burning in effigy of Obama in Sri Lanka of all places is a bump in the road, it would be a three day headline,” he contended. “You hardly hear about it at all anywhere.”

Watch Krauthammer’s comments, below:

These comments reflect critiques that have come from Romney in the wake of Obama’s statements as well.

“These are no bumps in the road. These are human lives,” Romney said this week, later echoing the same sentiment in an ABC News Interview. “I can’t imagine saying something like the assassination of ambassadors is a bump in the road.”

      Dear Mr. About(s)

I am the real thing; and I own you. Tell us about your citizenship. You refer to yourself as a US taxpayer when you talk about how “we” are paying for all of the nations problems. How much US Income tax did you pay last year?

I used to communicate with Walkabout in March and April, he specifically talked about conditions in NSW that proved who he was. You have tripled his volume of postings, corrected his faulty writing and distinctive Aussie mannerisms, and injected a literal spectrum of professional political talking points that are uniquely American.

You mask will slip as you fail to answer these tests. One of you actually wrote, “…tape your legend as to who you are pretending to be next to your computer. Talking point on one side of the monitor & legend on the other side.” I think this is how you roll…

One of you uses dangling participles and can’t spell. The other one is an accomplished cut & paste artist. You should call yourselves neo-Walkabout or the Tribe!

You, on the other hand can not prove your assertions, because they are not true.

The following morning—when rumors spread in Yekaterinburg regarding the disposal site—Yurovsky removed the bodies and concealed them elsewhere.

Walkabout, one more thing. Pogrom, like holocaust, are both words that have lost their original meaning, for political purposes. Both have become almost exclusively Jewish in meaning. They fit the eternal philosophy of Jewish victimhood, which itself is used for political ends.

Blacks have adapted that same “victimhood for political ends” strategy here in America. Most likely, because the NAACP was funded and founded by Jews. Their legal arm has been almost all Jewish. Divide a society and conquer is an old strategy unto itself.

Russia had a population of 94 million in 1927. It probably had a population of 80 to 90 million in 1918. the communists number about 200,000 (~ .2%) .

2% of the population (Visigoths) was able to rule Spain in the 7th century. I thought that was absurd when I first read it, so I always remembered it. .2% is low but they are the head of a much large movement, Socialists. During the first year or so when people were settling scorers after the revolution Lenin counciled other party members to not get involved. He said let them war themselves out then we will exert control. That the Russian government fell is not extraordinary. People were poor & Russia had lost 2 major wars. The had lost the Russo-Japanese war & there was a major revolt. They lost WW1 in 1917 & there was a major revolt.

There were only 200,000 communist part members, but there were many hanger-ons & camp followers. There was also a very large (in the millions socialist movement. Which socialist/communist group won? The more organized & vicious one.

He was Walter Mondale’s speech writer among other things. Walter should have kept him. He might have one in 1984.

Krauthammer has one heck of a lot of awards given to him by liberal journalists.

      Read his biography.

Read his biography. He said we should stay out of failed states (like Somalia). It is important “when” thing are said, so you know if they are just a standout voice in a choir or someone prescient & wise.

I believe Iraq was the right war. The lawsuit against the Iraqi government by the Oklahoma City Bombing victims began in 2002 was dismissed in 2009 due a law, Terrorism Act of 2008. That was very convenient.

I guess we must not have the discovery process dig up anything embarrassing.

I wrote Judicial Watch to find what happened to the case.

Walkabout: “I believe Iraq was the right war.”

Why, 9/11 had nothing to do with Iraq? If it were the right war, why the lies to get us into that war? Why set up the unprecedented “Office of Special Plans” with Zionists who had made their intentions known as far back as 1996? Back in 1996 these people were talking about using WMD’s as a pretext for war. Are you naive enough to think that 7 years later it was the reason, and a false one at that?

Yes the Jews planned 911. Just like they planned the World Trade Center Bombing in 1993. Of course the U.S. gov. is so stupid that they knew they couldn’t solve the case so they grabbed a patsy, the Blind Sheikh.

“there are going to be bumps in the road because, you know, in a lot of these places, the one organizing principle has been Islam. The one part of society that hasn’t been controlled completely by the government.
There are strains of extremism, and anti-Americanism, and anti-Western sentiment.”

This arrogant S.O.B. has got to go.
He’s absolutely off his marxist rocker.

He’s DEVASTATED our country, our people, our military, our allies,
our economy, our freedoms & everything that nourishes our nation-
however, this pompous azz does NOT own our hearts or our soul,
he does not own our mind or most importantly, our vote,

Does this sound like a “Leader” to you ?
His INITIATED all those “Bumps in the Road”
which led to deaths of good, innocent people.

    What a stupid, self-serving statement.

    On that theory,
    “Maynard G. Krebs” Achmadinejad
could insist that Iran’s planting of all their IEDs
to kill our soldiers & innocents are also,
merely ‘bumps in the road” to their mission of World dominance,

    & doesn’t happen over night.
    Bump-bump, Boo-boo !

“Bumps in the road” & “You didn’t build that” & on & on…

    ENOUGH is ENOUGH-

Krauthammer lambastes? But he never goes all the way to the truth. Fox news still has Carl Rove on their network. Fair and balanced are other words for half-truths. keep people guessing and confused. What is really happening? http://www.getresponse.com/archive/asinews/ASI-top-romney-adviser-lobbies-with-clinton-democrats-9773555.html Romney is getting very, very bad advise from people who don’t care who wins. Carl Rove has ulterior motives and wants Jeb Bush in 2016. NO MORE BUSHES in THE WHITE HOUSE! Not another Globalist. I have been e-mailing Romney day after day and I suppose the e-mails are intercepted by the very advisers I am trying to warn him against. I believe Romney is a principled man and a good businessman with a strong faith in Jesus and God but going to this Clinton Global Initiative is WRONG and his advisers are pulling him LEFT. If Romney was a true conservative this could not happen. Everything in the political and media world is so corrupted especially his advisers. I Pray he cleans house and finds his way Through Prayer….or better yet talks to Bachmann or West or Palin. He needs someone to pull him back from where he is going if he really wants to Save America. At Least he’s not a communist but does he know how easily he is being fooled?

The polls and media is in Obama’s corner 100%–This is far from meaning its right because when I was growing up I believed the news media radio or TV was neutral so as to be fair. This is not the case because they did the same in 08 against McCain. I ask –Are people really that simple minded? America, all you have to do is —OPEN YOUR EYES—Open your mind—massive debt, ( and I’m tired of hearing about Bush ) –Fact–6 trillion in less than 4 years, unemployment 8 % for 43 straight months, gas doubled, household income dropped $ 4 thousand national Avg, failed, stimulus, bailouts, auto clunker, and yes auto ( the GM bailout was for the UNIONS NOT THE COMPANY —and GM is asking for ANOTHER ONE )–all taxpayer dollars, BAD FORIGN POLICIES,
mocking our military, churches, our allies—spending billions on countries that hate us, WILL NOT drill for oil, gas or mine coal. At what point AMERICA IS ENOUGH ,ENOUGH. What about small business ?—What about our beloved constitution that Obama has little respect for ? Now the big question—WHAT ABOUT THE FUTURE FOR OUR KIDS AND GRAND KIDS ? The DNC main platform was==PRO ABORTION–ANTI GOD AND CHURCH– Take profits away from companies are spread it around, OBAMA has not talked about what our country needs to do, he sings the same double talk to nowhere that he did in 08. Obama RUNS FROM OUR ALLIES–He REFUSES TO EVEN SEE THEM.
Obama went on a fund raiser when our people were KILLED in the middle east. VOTE OBAMA OUT-

That’s very unfortunate. I’m all for defending the Homeland and would make the ultimate sacrifice but to fight a proxy War in the Middle East for Israel? I think not. I’m very saddened that so many have lost their loved ones in Iraq and Afgh. I wouldn’t sacrifice a dime for either.

Many say that Vietenam was not worth it.. In hindsight that was an understatemen but 10s of thousands of innocent American’s were lost as a result of wrong headed thinking. I should say sacrificed shouldn’t I? Was it worth it? realll now.. lol

Just like the Middle East today.. Why do you think America has the right to put it’s Military in a foreign land? Where does such arrogance come from? Certainly not our Founders. You and other Republicans are being deceived and you’re being played like a fiddle by those who don’t cherish our Constitution.

I really hope your child makes it through unscathed and of course anyone that is willing to sacrifice for the supposedly sake of their country is entirely noble and honorable but this is not our War and it’s not worthwhile. We have not the money and their is no end game.

Thomas Jefferson was a Founding Father & he put Marines on foreign soil.

The 1st 6 purpose built frigates for the Navy were built to safety of the sea lanes for American sailors, who were brutally attacked by Muslim slavers. By definition once the American ships leave American coastal water & enter those of another nation they are on foreign “soil”.

I believe that tech engineer should dig ditches or plow a filed with horses. Where do all those fancy electronics come from that he supposedly works on? From overseas shipped over here on ships.

Should all those ship be foreign ships so we don’t need a navy to rescue American sailors like in the 1974/5 Mayguez incident?

We could make the electronics here. That is true. Should we ship necessary precious metal here by foreign ships with foreign sailors so we have no need of anything more than a coastal navy? Many acts of piracy out there & not just Somali either.

I think O handled himself admirably. He went on Letterman, The View, and other important tv programs, not to mention his fund raising galas, afterward and has been yuking it up ever since. Of course, for the longest time it was some stupid film that caused the spontaneous ‘uprising’, it wasn’t a terrorist attack. That’s what the storyline was to begin with. Now I guess Barry is admitting it was a terrorist attack and a bump in the road. If you drive that road, the bumps you’d be feeling are all the dead bodies. No big deal to Barry or the MSM. The bump in the road, Barry is taking about, though, is himself and the bump is more like a huge pile. If I were a doctor, I might recommend Preparation H, or maybe a pooper scooper to get rid of Barry. So long as he’s gone that’s all that matters to me.
