‘Real News From The Blaze’ Takes on NFL Referee Labor Dispute
Water-cooler talk across America Tuesday morning was dominated by the controversial ending of the Seattle Seahawks-Green Bay Packers game Monday night. The game was decided on the last play by a controversial endzone ruling made by replacement referees who have stood in through preseason and the first three weeks of the regular season as the professional officials and the NFL have not been able to come to an agreement in a labor dispute. The botched call caps off three weeks of incompetence by replacement refs, that have left fans as the real losers.
In many ways, the current referee lockout has been compared to the Chicago Teachers Union strike. The average NFL ref already makes $149,000 a year and the issue of pay is actually a small portion of the dispute. A larger part of the dispute is accountability. The NFL wants to increase the number of officials, creating a bench of trained refs who could be called upon to replace refs that are blowing calls. For NFL refs who are paid on a per-game basis, this could really cut into their salary if they’re judged to be performing poorly.
On “Real News From The Blaze” Tuesday the panel discussed the blown call, the nature of the dispute between refs and the league, and how this strike mirrors the broader trend of organized labor disputes in recent years:

Posted on September 26, 2012 at 1:18amHey Blaze, where is the segment from Real News on Obama’s speech at The U.N.? Am i missing something here? Are NFL refs more important then Obama telling the world that some cheap video is responsible for the violence across the middle east? How can that not be posted?
Who is making these bonehead decisions? Get with the program and give us real content ! Wake up !

Posted on September 25, 2012 at 11:05pmFor me, at least, I use to be a die hard college football & NFL fan. I was so into it, I would get upset if my pastor went long & caused me to miss the kickoff.
Today, however, football is just entertainment. Do I enjoy watching it? Yes, but not at the level I rush home from church or start screaming or cussing for something so trivial as a game.
The value of this world, at least for me, rises above a game, sport. movie, television show, etc.
But I do watch it,and I find it funny of the values society says in ‘fair share’ to those not doing the job, capable to do the job or given a job above ability because of skin color…but this same value, in these officials not equipped or trained for this level, when the do make bad calls. are not met with the same value the world tells us we have to. What government tells us we have to.
I could write down hundreds of bad calls, that cost games in the past, NFL officials called…but if you listen to the announcers, it’s like once the NFL officials union strike is paid off, the mistakes won’t happen under them. I remember all the years before instant reply was allowed for officials, yet shown to the fans to mock the officials.
Of course those days don’t matter, because their not present day.
We all know what this will lead to, ticket prices increasing on fans, same as the value of tax increases for unions striking for more and politicians increasing payoffs to voting blocks, entitlements and corruption rewarded. Go team!

Posted on September 25, 2012 at 9:50pmThe referees believe the are worth more than the NFL wants to pay them. Judging by recent games involving the scabs, they’re probably right.
Pretty basic market economics, honestly.

Posted on September 25, 2012 at 10:06pmtrue – turns out they are worth much more than they were getting paid. NFL should either just pay them more or invest the money in training new ones (too late).

Posted on September 25, 2012 at 9:46pmThere’s 1 big difference, I’m not required in anyway to support the NFL, or send them my money.
However I have no choice to have my money stolen in order support government union parasites and their families.
