Media Reports Wild Satirical Story About Paul Ryan as Fact

When the press reacted with frantic scientific outrage to a joke by GOP nominee Mitt Romney about rolling down windows on planes, the world got its first hint that the American mainstream press might have slept through courses on irony or sarcasm.

That now seems to be confirmed. Apparently, not only can the mainstream press not understand a joke when it comes from the GOP nominee, but it can’t even understand it when it comes from one of their own. This can be seen in the reaction to an obviously joking column by Politico’s Roger Simon, alleging some rather un-vice presidential behavior on the part of Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan:

Though Ryan had already decided to distance himself from the floundering Romney campaign, he now feels totally uninhibited. Reportedly, he has been marching around his campaign bus, saying things like, “If Stench calls, take a message†and “Tell Stench I’m having finger sandwiches with Peggy Noonan and will text him later.â€

Never mind how much this sounds out of character for Ryan. Everyone from Paul Krugman to Steve Benen at MSNBC have  lept into action, gleefully declaring this a sign that the Romney campaign is in disarray. Bloomberg has the excerpts:

Times columnist Paul Krugman:

Can I say that even though I’m not exactly a fan of Mitt Romney’s, this is just bad behavior? You’re supposed to wait until it’s actually over before you do this kind of thing. Anyway, I like how Ryan is declaring independence: by using PowerPoint!

Tommy Christopher of press-gossip site Mediaite:

Simon’s anecdote has the recognizable (to the Beltway crowd) ring of truth that renders it canonical in political circles … Simon’s anecdote demonstrates that the Romney campaign’s toxic press is in Ryan’s head. In this electoral game of chicken, Ryan is already unbuckling his seatbelt and visualizing his roll onto the shoulder.

Joe Gandelman of the Moderate Voice:

Have we ever heard of a winning Presidential ticket in American politics that had a Vice Presidential candidate have an attitude like this about his running mate? Talk about a total lack of deference (or respect).

Liberal radio personality Taylor Marsh:

Ryan is trying to save himself so he can live to run another day. Roger Simon’s piece has spread like wildfire and is causing a gigantic ripple.

Steve Benen at MSNBC host Rachel Maddow’s blog:

In applied terms, Simon’s piece went on to note that Ryan no longer likes the directions “dictated by his Romney handlers.” It’s quite a presidential campaign, isn’t it?

David Ferguson of the Raw Story:

According to Simon’s anonymous sources, the Romney “brain trust†of senior campaign officials in Boston have taken to calling Ryan “Gilligan.†Campaign headquarters apparently feels that the man brought on to the ticket for his alleged deftness in navigating complicated snarls of budget and policy numbers is turning out to be an intellectual flyweight.

Unfortunately for them, it’s not only not true, but it is — again, obviously — a joke. It took a usually reliable fellow journalist Ben Smith  to point this out via Twitter.

The joke itself isn’t particularly funny, so it’s easy to see how the mistake might be a bit understandable. However, this isn’t the first time Simon has written a satirical column poking fun at Ryan. Given the army of fact checkers and investigators employed by the mainstream press, one would expect this sort of joke to be caught, even if it wasn’t funny.

In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Find out more HERE.

The truth doesn’t matter, and that’s the whole idea. The narrative has already been widely spread, the mindless will simply accept the narrative as a truth, even though they never actually read the original piece being commentated on to know all of this “blow back” is based on planted satire. The original satire is lost, and the aura of the narrative will live on.

Welcome to the propaganda. It’s how it works and most, sixty percent maybe, Americans are way too dumb to ever realize it even if it’s pointed out.

At the end of the coming revolution this media is desperately trying to start, any of the sides that win will have the media tried for treason and hanged. Mark my words, they lose no matter who wins; and I will only feel bad for the few honest ones who tried to expose the corruption. Those that were involved in the lies, or were aware of the lies but did nothing, let them be tried in the courts (even if the communist/socialist left wins and the courts are a farce), and let them be hanged for treason.

Go ahead and put money in the Liberal News pockets. If you have Cable, the networks get Cable over night rating in segments of 15 minutes. 10 sec of viewing equals a 15 minute rating and huge adverting bucks in their pockets. Believe me their is nothing to see on Obama’s Lap Dog News.

It’s OK to watch your local news, but change the channel after it has concluded. Just a heads up.

I have to agree. A couple of years ago we pulled the plug on satellite or cable, opting instead for SkyAngel where everything is safe (even the commercials). We go antenna to the local channels ONLY for the local news and weather reports. Why fill our heads and ears with garbage and falsehoods. If I don’t want my grand-kids’ heads messed up with it, why should I assault myself with it? We now watch a little FoxNews, but mostly do our own homework on world and national issues. It’s worth the time and effort.

You must not be a member of the MSM. They have a narrative in place to support the DNC/Obama and do not care about facts, only what they can twist to match the narrative (See Brian Ross – Tea Party). It would seem you also have a narrative in place, most likely because you are paid to post these posts. This would explain why you are not willing to use your name. The only reason any of the MSM appear in my house is because they are strategically positioned in between Fox and the Discovery Channel and I use the up arrow on the channel select instead of punching in the numbers directly … but I still take the precaution of closing my eyes.
Actually I see more of the MSM news coverage by watching Fox point out how bad they are than anytime else. If it wasn’t for conservatives mocking their coverage, I don’t think anybody would see anything they do.

dblaess says, “It would seem you also have a narrative in place, most likely because you are paid to post these posts. This would explain why you are not willing to use your name. Are you with MM or just paid directly by George?” Yes, dblaess, I make a fair income from posting here, not only from George, but also from Van Jones and Piven. I get a nickle a word from both of them (excluding definite and indefinite articles) and I promise you, it adds up. But the real money comes from generating traffic, something contractually I’m not allowed to discuss.

So being paid for my posts explains why I don’t use my real name here? Is dblaess your real name? So you are getting paid too? I don’t recall ever seeing someone’s real name here. So they’re all getting paid? I’m not sure about your logic there dblaess, if that that is actually your real name.

We really do not need this idiocy from Romney/Ryan. Sure, we can see they are joking and we can see that the liberal media could care less if they are or are not…they just want ammo to fire at them.

But when you look at the “voters” interviewed for teh Howard Stern show, it clearly shows that a good chunk of people don’t have the brain cells to see a joke or to see the conspiracy.

Let’s be honest. It is not just the black twits voting for Obama that were featured in the interview, who are idiots. We have a heck of a lot on our side as well. You have democrats voting for Obama because he is black, and we have republicans voting AGAINST him for the same reason…with absoultely no clue what the issues are, what Romney’s platform is…nothing.
