Shocking Video: Drummer Suffers Fatal Heart Attack During Live Concert
Brad Parker was performing with his American disco group Generation Esmeralda in Brazil over the weekend when he suffered a sudden, fatal heart attack.
Caught on video, one can see the 59-year-old playing with the rest of the band before he collapses and fades from sight.
Somewhat behind the rest of his group, the band actually continues to play, clearly unaware of the emergency.
The New York Daily News has more:
Roadies and medics eventually rushed the stage and Parker was taken to a hospital, where he died on Sunday, a producer for the group told local media.
“Doctors performed all the emergency procedures but unfortunately there was no solution,” Sergio Lopes said, according to Agence-France Presse.
Here is the video:
The group posted an announcement on its Facebook page, saying Brad died “doing what he loved best” and that the Brazilian government and local officials were exemplary in helping get the drummer home without delay.
The statement began:
To [dispel all] rumors and hopefully re-focus intentions to the family I am deeply saddened to report that during our concert in Uba Brazil last night, we lost our friend and brother Brad Parker to a fatal heart attack. Please [excuse] my feeble attempt to express our sadness over this tragic event. There simply are no words.
According to the New York Daily News the group was formed by former members of the band Santa Esmeralda, which was most popular in the 1970′s.

Posted on September 26, 2012 at 9:13pmI have been a drummer for about 18 years. The references to spinal tap….FUNNY! its a physical and mental job. The man died doing what he loved, thats awesome! I wish his family the best and they are in my prayers. Now, anyone know where I can get a cheap set of Zildgans?

Posted on September 27, 2012 at 1:56pmDo go Z’s…. They ALWAYS CRACK… Sabian’s or Paste’s are the best (better tone quality too….) Sabian’s are dark and mellow toned (if you can find them, I recommend B8PRO’s as they are coated to not corrode, but since they are not made anymore, they are hard to find).. While Paste’s are clean and brite (but can still crack like a Z)…
But to their credit, Z makes some great High-hats….

Posted on September 26, 2012 at 4:33pmHey…. I’m a drummer and I went to college…. I admit I didn’t get a 4.0, but a 3.5 is respectable right???
Drummer’s are not stupid, just not dexterous… It’s VOCALISTS that have brain functionality issues… Drummers are simply notorious for being late to everything, not caring, and having little hand dexterity… I know over 6 drummers with bachelors degrees and two with masters… Can’t say I know that many musicians of other instruments that have numbers that good (and I know a lot of musicians)…

Posted on September 26, 2012 at 5:10pmTrue…. Sometimes you have to laugh to keep from crying… :-)
I don’t mind MANY of the drummer stereotypes (since MANY are true) but I can’t stand that one… You have to know what I am talking about… We get a bad rap, but real musicians know that drummers are TYPICALLY the most realistic and level-headed member of any band…
After all, we create the beat (and do so without anyone’s help) most other instrument players need a click-track or a pre-laid beat to play to… We MAKE ours…

Now it would be Ironic, if they were playing Ozzy’s “Mama I’m coming home…” or something foretelling like that… :-)

Posted on September 26, 2012 at 2:44pmWe don’t know what happened to lead to this man’s untimely death at a relatively young age. But I do warn my children that any drugs, alcohol and other abusive treatment of their body when they are YOUNG will catch up to them when they are old. You can AGE your immune system and your vascular system and your brain by pour toxic food and chemicals into them. No need to be shaving off any IQ points with riotous living. Poor guy. No one expects to die like this.

Have you ever heard of emergency room humor? Cop humor? Well I’ve worked the E.R. and you would probably think we were all heartless but instead we were coping with what we saw every day.
God created laughter. I don’t know this drummer but I hope he would understand the joke and approve.
