Todd Akin might have thought he could pull himself back up from the abyss after the mess caused by what many conservatives characterized as a series of embarrassing and scientifically illiterate comments about “legitimate rape,” but Missouri’s Democratic party doesn’t appear to be willing to let him do that. Politico reports that the Missouri Democrats have filed an ethics complaint against Akin following the latter’s newfound support from Senator Jim DeMint’s Senate Conservatives Fund:
The complaints came on the same day DeMint announced he was endorsing Akin, breaking with most in the GOP who deserted the congressman after he made controversial remarks about “legitimate rape.” DeMint’s backing paves the way for the fund to put its money behind Akin, though it hasn’t officially done so yet.
The complaints filed with both the Federal Election Commission and House Ethics Committee rely mostly on press reports. In the House complaint, Democrats allege Akin engaged in a quid pro quo with DeMint’s fund, changing his position on earmarks in exchange for political support. The FEC complaint alleges Akin had solicited illegal contributions by violating the soft money ban and had illegally coordinated with a super PAC on independent expenditures.
“To use the term bribery I don’t think is too strong at all,” Sanders told reporters. “These are fundamentally disturbing actions by Todd Akin.”
If merit is found with this complaint, it could sink Akin’s campaign. However, it is easy to see avenues of criticism for this particular complaint. For instance, it’s questionable whether the Democrats could prove that the correlation between the Senate Conservatives’ Fund supporting Akin and Todd Akin’s shifting position on earmarks indicates that the one caused the other, or vice versa.
However, that may not matter, given that this complaint is clearly meant as a political weapon first and foremost. In that capacity, especially given that it targets Akin’s most deep-pocketed backer, and given that it lends more fodder for attack ads by McCaskill, it may be very successful.

Sep. 27, 2012 at 1:24pmAs a Missouri voter, The last time Claire was running, she got Mike Fox to come out and say he would walk without jitters and Chris Reeves would rise from the dead if we just voted for Claire and embryonic stem cell research for Stowers Institute. This year it’s that Todd Akin’s ministerial upbringing will somehow convince 534 other congressmen to actually take a vote on the issue of Abortion. Meanwhile Claire’s family makes their money sucking at the gubmint health subsidy trough and votes to expand that through Obamacare, but Akin has the Ethic dilema. She is a proven tax cheat, she failed to pay taxes on her private jet until caught, and her husband would probably kill her before allowing anyone to see his tax returns. So the choice comes down to a bible thumping conservative or a crook abusing our taxes and voting to line her pockets. I’ll vote for the bible thumper.

By “legitimate rape” he meant “forceable rape”
as opposed to statutory rape. But, once a republican makes a mistake,
it’s never forgotten, even by republican cowards.The “inside the beltway” GOP
threw him under the bus faster than Obama could say recovery.
No wonder we lose. Democrats would have stood by their man even if he was a murderer.
So the GOP cowards will deal with McCaskill rather than a Christian conservative. Go figure.

” Democrats allege Akin engaged in a quid pro quo with DeMint’s fund, changing his position on earmarks in exchange for political support. ”
Help me out here.
Didn’t Obama buy votes for Obamacare from Ben Nelson (the cornhusker kickback) and Mary Landreau (the Louisana purchase).
When can I expect the ethics investigation to start on them?

Sep. 27, 2012 at 12:16pmIt looks like the Democrat hypocrits are attampting a “drive by rape” attack against Aiken, who appears to actually be running neck and neck with the horrible Senator McCaskill (who is just another liberal hack in the Senate and deserves to be sent back home). Maybe this election cycle the voters will refuse to be puppets who get jerked around by the professional political manipulators who carpet bomb their opponents with lies and inuendo and prostitute themselves for corrupt politicians each disgusting election cycle.

Sep. 27, 2012 at 11:21amI though Akin’s campaign was already “sunk”. If Democrats were so sure that Akin was done for after “legitimate rape”, why are they afraid of him? Why bring an ethics complaint to a man whose campaign was supposedly dead?

Sep. 27, 2012 at 11:34amThe vast majority of politicians, especially Democrats, and ethics in the same sentence is really an oxymoron. Seems to me, if my memory serves me correctly, there was a certain Sen. McCaskill that had a problem with charges to her campaign and the use of her own personal jet, but she paid it back so no ethics involved and then there is slap-his-wrist again Rangel, or Maxine Muddy the Waters, or Congress having to pass a law making it illegal for them to use any information that learn duing the course of their work to enrich themselves or their family members.

Vaman didn’t know that this disparity fed a theory that the stress associated with violent rape might be the cause of the unexpectedly low pregnancy rates.
Vaman repeats democrat talking points reflexively and without understanding.
Let’s see if Vaman can understand this information and its relationship to Akin’s famously derided statement.

Sep. 27, 2012 at 9:13amI’m not sure what Todd Akin was thinking when he opened his mouth, but I certainly do not share the same ideas that everyone out there now perceives the whole “Republican Party” shares. This incident put some wind beneath the wings of an attractive Libertarian who now gets 5 to 9 percent of the polls. Hopefully the remaining Senatorial campaign will just focus on the issues and the good people of Hazelwood and the rest of our state will vote for the representation we need.

Sep. 27, 2012 at 2:17pmI hate to explain it like this, but I think a little programming code is in order.
POLITICIAN.RATING = 5%
POLITICIAN.LOSES_ELECTION = TRUE
– OR –
POLITICIAN.RATING = 9%
POLITICIAN.LOSES_ELECTION = TRUE
Looking at the two above scenarios, I’m not seeing a huge amount of difference.
Or, put more succinctly, voting for a higher-rated loser does not make him any less of a loser, because losing is not a gray-area issue. You either win or lose.

Sep. 27, 2012 at 8:54amThe ethics complaint should be against Claire McCaskill: She voted for a multi-trillion dollar bill without reading it (Obamacare), voted for close to a trillion for ‘shovel ready jobs’ that weren’t shovel ready, and pushed to elect a communist (Obama) whom she and everybody else who voted for him knew virtually nothing about. That’s an ethics problem, if you ask me.

Sep. 27, 2012 at 8:41am1. Legitimate Rape
Rape between one man and one woman who are not married or even acquainted; the only rape sanctioned by the Republican Party.
As in; “Was it legitimate rape, or was it just like, hilarious prison rape or acceptable acquaintance rape?”

Akin, the candidate Mccass Kill spent millions to run against, has closed the gap so with the election just a month away her campaign will do whatever it takes to ensure that the dark side wins.
