Fox’s Wallace Snaps at Radio Host: Romney ‘In Trouble,’ ‘Got to Win’ Debate, and Poll Critiques are ‘Craziness’

Fox’s Chris Wallace apparently is sick of hearing critiques of polls showing Mitt Romney trailing President Obama, and isn’t afraid to let a wide audience know it. In a clip captured by Media Matters, Wallace tells radio host Mike Gallagher that criticizing the polls is an example of what he terms “craziness,” and that “no self-respecting pollster” weights their polls to make party ID even.

Those comments followed others that said Romney is “in trouble” and must win the upcoming presidential debate. In fact, he even had some harsh words for Gallagher when the host called out Wallace for thinking there’s trouble for Romney and believing the polls.

“I actually did some research on this today, which is more than you’ve done,” Wallace said sharply:

Wallace’s harsh delivery, coupled with his dismissal of an argument that a number of conservative pundits find persuasive, obviously won’t sit well with a number of conservatives trying to maintain optimism in the face of poll margins that increasingly look bad for Romney. However, his attack cuts both ways, as he lays into the mainstream media, saying he’s “never seen such bias” in the mainstream media. However, he apparently doesn’t believe the polls are biased in the same way.

He has some evidence for this, in that typically conservative media outlets have shown problematic margins for Romney in recent weeks. Fox News’ own poll shows Romney trailing Obama by five points nationally, with an NBC/Wall Street Journal Poll showing the same margin. Indeed, even Rasmussen shows Obama ahead by one point.

Update: Some regular listener’s of the Mike Gallagher program have pointed out that Wallace is a frequent guest on the program and that Wallace and Gallagher often trade good-natured barbs.

@HKS you can add FOX to your list. Who provided the clip, Media Matters? Debate over, Media Matters. What Chris Wallace doesn’t factor in to his argument for the polls is that the Obama phone drones are not getting voter registered. Except by the extremists, the dead voter registers, the Mickey Mouses, the people that will vote for other people by proxy.

Obozo is hated by everyone that is informed and everybody that only knows what the newspaper and TV tells them are still OK with Obozo. The fraternity of the Poll and Media Matters MSM are all marching to the same Soros drum.

I live in a state where 70% of the people will vote Romney. All but the SEIU and Obama Phone Drones will be voting Obozo, because they are paid to vote for Obozo.

The Narrative of the day that has been building all week is that it’s over and the economy is doing fine. When in fact that Obozo is losing big and and the economy is in a pathetic mess.
The race is over in Obozo’s campaign except for the Electoral College. He,Obozo, thinks he can steal the election in Florida and Ohio. In fact, Obozo is having a hard time really winning states like MI,IL, PA,CA, and NY. Obozo voters need to get deflated and sit home and drink, because the Communist Obamunist are going to die in 2012. It’s Over.

Look, Mitt Romney WILL NOT WIN!!! He needed the Paul supporters to win, PERIOD!! He is NOT going to get them, why? Because his campaign and the RNC committed federal crimes against them, AND, they turned a blind ear to the voice of the people at the convention, as did the Democrats at theirs!!! You guy’s on here seem to not care about your voices being ignored. I just do not get it. There are others, not just Paul supporters, that are not voting for Romney because of the blatant disregard of the delegates nays at the convention. Have you all forgotten? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKaXqoC4DjE
These are the reasons the polls are the way they are and is why Romney will not win. The only way to get Obama out is to turn to a third party and the only one that has the ability at this point is Gary Johnson. Sorry, but that is the way it is. You guys can continue to keep your heads in the sand, but it will do you no good.

I believe the polls for one reason: as a group, Americans get dumber every year. There are individual Americans that are preparing for the harsh future, but for the most part, the sheep just get dumber. They will re-elect this cancerous administration and then blame others for their own stupidity.

Yes. That’s what I see happening. Maybe not in Montana, but here in Ohio, people are far more enthusiastic for Obama. My local Romney office calls twice a week for me to canvas, I told them I am currently working out-of-state M-F, and they begged me to work weekends, they are struggling with volunteers! The Obama office downtown creates parking problems on Saturdays! Other than the tea-party folks I know most Republicans are not enthusiatic at all. Why? Romney supported Kasich gutting the unions and we voted Issue 5 down more than 2 to 1. GM bailout hurts Romney. “let GM go bankrupt” hurt him too. Not only a lot of auto reliant industry here but many mention the contributions the automobile industry made during WWII. P{erhaps the issue that has independents rejecting Romney is Sec. Husted’s efforts to eliminate early voting in blue counties. I think we are ashamed of that, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the GOP down-ballots get hurt in the backlash. Romney is cooked in Ohio. Congressman are not appearing with him outside of Cincinnati, which is as GOP as it gets. Gov. Kasich keeps introducing Romney by self-servingly talking about the improving economy here and then Romney takes the mic and says we are an economic disaster. McCain was more popular here in ’08. Dems were convinced they were going to lose. I don’t get that impression right now.

You are also one out of 200M eligible voters. You have been eligible to vote since you were 21.

They poll a selection of people, usually by random phone number.

Say there are 1000 polls taken leading up to an election – for you to be called you would need to be 1000th of 200M – so the chance is one in 200,000.

      Not good odds.

Ordinarily, all these “good news” polls for the demonrats would have been fabricated closer to the election. However, with all the much earlier voting going on around the country, the demonrat media have had to spring them earlier this time plus their October surprises too. If comrade nero-bama wins, it is to America’s shame and the anti-christ’s gain, but like {@I Support God’s Israel} stated, there are a lot of Christians praying for this country good, so don’t count Romney out (God loves an “impossible” challenge).

Admittedly, I do not have very many Liberal friends but many of my family members and their friends who voted for Obama are changing their minds…. I can count n my fingers how many Obama bumper stickers I have seen in the Valley.

The pollsters have a bias and/or an agenda. Fox News wants to be perceived as fair and balanced. They are executing a PR campaign when they do their pooling. They, like any rational human being, do not want Obama to win by making the Conservatives to comfortable.

It is going to be a land slide…. Even if Romney screw up.

If you live in Los Angeles, we are producing the largest Pro America Anti Obama Rally in LA County’s history on Oct 7. It is called WAKE UP AMERICA 2012 RALLY. Ron Paul’s people have such a deep-seated hatred for Mitt Romney. Mitt Romney is a good man with fine Christrian values. I am sick of Ron Paul’s people coming on here and slamming Romney just because he got the nomination not their guy. Talk about immature behaviour. Look up Glenn Beck’s special show he did on Romney and why BOTH Beck and David Barton equate Romney as the next George Washington. I dare you! Every election year, the polls are intentionally biased toward one political party for a number of reasons, and–surprise surprise–the other party always cries foul. In ’04 the polls oversampled Republicans, the Democrats said the polls couldn’t be trusted, and then the polls turned out to be right. Now it’s the other way around. I say you should look at the RCP (RealClearPolitics) average–in ’08 the RCP average was only off by 0.03 percentage points; by comparison Rasmussen was off by 1.3 points and Gallup was off by 3.7 points. As of this post the RCP average shows Obama ahead by 4.3 points, UP 1.3 points from just a few weeks ago.. Sorry, but barring something big happening to change the momentum of this election, Ol’ Mitt is going to lose.

after learning all the not-so-new news on the absolute infiltration of our American former main media, we have NO trust left in C Wallace, not after seeing him happily vacationing with that rabid communist GEORGE CLOONEY.

past 2 yrs now we also have almost completely stopped watching FOXNEWS after hearing TOO many comments by the obama quadruplets: Shep Smith Juan Williams Bob Beckel and Jerry Rivers. we have NO trust -or faith- in Bill O’R anymore either since he always comes off as kissingbutt to obama.

wish GB could have bought the FOXNEWS tapes of his FOX show so we could get still shots of all those chalkboards that have COME TRUE. === GREAT BOOK IDEA, GB: a BOOK of those chalkboards, they were EXCELLENT teaching tools.

I think y’all are trying to convince yourselves. The math suggests that Romney is right and in trouble. 47M (or more?) are on food stamps. There are about 23M government workers of various types. (non-military). Only 85M returns had federal income tax liability last year. There are about 18M union workers as well. So if you add those you see 88M people who have every reason to vote Obama. How many show up? Who knows.

Now there are 238M people over age 18 in the US. If you use the 85M that paid federal tax and assume a 1.5 factor for marriage that’s what…127M potential votes. Remember Obama starts with 88M potentials. If you assume 70% of those are Republican you’re at 89M and Owebama gets the other 38M. So in potentials/likely Owebama has 126M and Romney has 89M. That leaves 23M left to play with. Let’s assume 50/50 on those. Owebama 137M and Romey 101M.

So now that the buckets are built it all comes down to voter turnout. Last election roughly 130M voted. Let’s call it 55% this time. If Owebama gets 55% he ends up with 75M votes. Romeny gets 55M. Let’s give Romney a 70% turnout. Owebama still needs only a 51.5% turnout to beat him.

Owebama knows he doesn’t need to win debates or independent voters. All he has to do is to get his minions to show up at the polls and he wins big. That’s it.

We’ve gone past the tipping point. There may not be a Republican POTUS for a good long time (assuming there are future elections.)

Pretty impressive math. But people aren’t absolutes. Five years ago, I was in the 10% tax paying group, now I’m eligible for food stamps ( I sent the form back with a nice little note attached). I haven’t made enough to pay federal tax the last two years and since I have my own business, I don’t collect unemployment. I don’t think I’m the only one in that 47 million who’s voting for Romney and I know union guys who are definitely mot voting for obama. It’s not about obama or Romney, this election is about the people of this country. If there are enough Americans out there Romney will win in a landslide.

      @Rothbard…. Classic Rockwell

“Why is Mitt Romney losing? With the economy tanking, Barack Obama should be tanking, too, but he is winning. Why is that? Romney is a stand-in for the power elite, but so is Obama. Both are Keynesians; both are corporatists; both are torturers and police statists. We can go down the whole, horrific list. Here is the one difference, however, perceived or real: on the margin, Obama seems like less of a warmonger. Of course, the Drone-in-Chief is a warmonger, too, but Romney seems the more bloodthirsty chickenhawk, and even the belligerent American people are not anxious for yet another war of aggression in the Middle East, this time against the ancient civilization of Persia. But here is what I think put the kibosh on Romney’s chances: he is the candidate of Netanyahu. That helps with the crazed and bloodthirsty Christian right, but not with regular people, who are the vast majority. Most Americans, when they saw Mitt’s surrogate and his cartoon bomb at the UN, were repelled. And that, finally, is why Obama will probably win.”

The bias happening is VERY subtle yet out in plain sight at the same time.

The media implies that Obama is more favorable and Romney is not, in order to discourage people from supporting something “unfavorable”.

It’s like the concept of trending. If you get people to see something as a fad, people will follow that fad for none other than the sake of following that fad. The people who can see through the fake-ness then get deemed anti-social, anti-mainstream, etc.

Why is all of this even necessary if Obama is a man of character? This is such a large DIVERSION from what is REALLY happening in the White House and sadly, it looks like people are buying in. Even if they are not, the media would love to have you believe that people are buying in.

    It’s a sick mind-game of sorts.

Romney will win the debates. He’s an eloquent speaker, and a great mind.

Obama can’t speak off the cuff.
Obama the “Teleprompter King”, can’t speak without his speechwriter’s words popping up on his two teleprompters.
He’s a fool. All he can do is stutter and pause, and whistle through his teeth, without his precious teleprompters.
I feel sure Obama was given the questions way ahead of time, so he can practice and memorize his answers.

I cannot wait until the debate. I hope Romney throws some unexpected points his way. You are right, Obama cannot do it off the cuff. This is Romney’s strength and I have a feeling if they try to sway the questions and answers (the follow ups) people are going to see their bias!! People aren’t so stupid as they used to be…lol. We have some that are just wiping the crap outta their eyes…..but more people are seeing this!

@Rothbardian_..I think you are right. There are three debates and he will not go for the kill this early. he is a politician and this whole thing is being used to keep the people distracted. In the Primaries, Romney didn’t bring it until almost the last debate when he hammered Ginstinch about his fannie mae affiliation and ole newter puckered up after that. They will drag this out. Sorry, but Romney is a strawman, this has been decided.

Disagree. There is much more at stake this election cycle. The polls are being cooked as much as the Democrat party and the conspiring media can manage. With all the twisting and spinning and manipulating, the fascists are trying to discourage moderates and conservatives from going to the voting booth by making seem that Romney cannot win. The Democrat party is now more corrupt that many third-world countries. “Chicago-style” politics is nothing more than hard core corruption. It needs to end.

*sigh* my comment is called sarcasm…… The polls in 2010 claimed the Rs wouldn’t make any gains, yet Rs made historic gains all the way down ballots to the most local level. The polls predicted a Scott Walker loss yet he won by a bigger margin than he had in his original election . the point is the polls and the state controlled media cannot and should not be trusted.

When the polls continue to spew things that we in our regular, real life know to be not representative of reality – they cannot and should not be trusted or believed.

Coincidentally, the pollsters had him behind Carter by anywhere from 7-11 points. As we all know, Reagan won by a national average of 11 points or more. The left leaning media has been at this a long time. They continue to use the same play book. Just like your hero Barry continues to espouse his Marxist philosophy, which has never worked anywhere.

I disagree. Mr Wallace, like the majority of us has seen too much deceit, lying, amateur cover up, downright incompetence in every area and the destruction of what made America great. He, like hopefully most of us, knows how important it is to get this administration out for the survival of America. Look at Spain and Italy. Look at Middle East and Africa. He continues to position us to make us fall even harder without the safety net we provide these countries built on austariity. It appears to work until the money runs out. We are also tired of Marie Antuonet. At least she seems to like America now while they ran through 1.2 Billion for their personal purposes This is a reflection of what socialism and communism is. They feed their lavish lifestyles at tax payer expense. Can you say TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION???!!! What audacity with his stupid American flag.his campaign was hawking for $30.? What a wasted 44 months. He covers his tracks with no budget and has the audacity to give himself a grade of INCOMPLETE while handing out cell phones to sway the vote. If you call losing two credit ratings, 8% unemployment, more like 20% under unemployment is good, Total lack of transparity or ignorance along with his disengagement, he is your man. HOLD OUT JUST A LITTLE & HE WILL THROW IN A CELL PHONE AT THE 53% OD WE WHO PAYS FOR THE 47% & GROWING TOILET PAPER!!!#**#!??

If you look at the Huffington Post today, their narrative is “Romney less favorable than Bush” …….the fact that they have to bring in Bush once again, shows their desperation.

I say let them keep skewing polls, the people that want Obama out will vote. The demotakers will not be so enthusiastic this time around, they are NOT, I can see it!!!
