‘Free at Last’: Michael Savage Leaves Radio Show After Legal Victory in Dispute With Talk Radio Network
LOS ANGELES (AP) —Michael Savage’s talk show left the airwaves Thursday after the conservative host won a legal battle with his longtime employer, although his attorney said discussions with new networks are already under way.
Savage posted a message on his website Thursday evening under the headline “Free at Last!” that said he was free to work with any station or network from now on. He said he “will not be heard on the radio for some time.”
His attorney Daniel Horowitz said Savage left Talk Radio Network after obtaining a favorable ruling in arbitration Thursday afternoon.
More than 8 million people listen to Savage’s show each week, placing him behind only Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity in ratings, according to the magazine Talkers. The immediate effect that his abrupt departure would have on companies that advertise on his show was unclear.
An email sent to Oregon-based Talk Radio Network was not immediately returned. Savage’s bio and name already have been removed from the company’s website.
Horowitz says Savage has been fighting the network for two years to get out a contract that was 10 years old and prevented the host from switching employers. Horowitz said the agreement lacked protections afforded to artists and entertainers under California law, and tied Savage to Talk Radio Network indefinitely.
Horowitz said Savage spent more than $900,000 fighting his case but was awarded more than $1 million in arbitration. The agreement
also calls for Savage to be able to obtain all archived tapes of his show.
Savage, who broadcasts from San Francisco, was heard on nearly 400 stations and has gained notoriety for offending immigrants and minorities, calling the Muslim holy book, the Quran, a “book of hate” and being banned in 2009 from traveling to England for allegedly fostering extremism or hatred. After that decision, the host appealed to one of the targets of his barbs, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, for help.
A State Department spokesman said at the time that countries have a right to determine who is allowed to enter, but declined to comment further on Savage’s request.

With that said I have to ask WTF?

He picked on Bachmann, Paul, Palin, etc, and I did not get a chance to vote for Bachmann, because the delegates knocked her out in Iowa. He acted like a progressive, mocking the men and ladies who represent America more than romney. As a result, we have a “best of evils” choice again, where all TV and radio shows lead us, election after election after election,— with this 2-party system. Mr. Savage would never join Mercury One. That guy always bashes Glenn Beck at every chance he gets. Look up on you tube an interview of Savage that Beck did while working for CNN. Even then, Savage didn’t seem to have any warm feelings towards Glenn.
Savage is a flame thrower and I draw the line when it comes to unfairly picking on fellow conservatives…

Posted on September 29, 2012 at 3:55pmThis is not good news, considering what has happened here in Atlanta, as well. As of this past week, 640 WGST dumped their conservative talk show format, and the station is now a Spanish speaking radio station. Very unexpected in our market here, and a lot of irate listeners. I’m very disappointed in Clear Channel’s decision, and at a loss in understanding what is going on. Seems to me there is a push to rid the airwaves of conservative radio…

Posted on September 28, 2012 at 8:14am@LisaLake: No kidding! He is the absolute WORST talk radio guy on the right. He isn’t very smart, and all he does is repeat what he hears throughout the day. I swear, I want to stick a pen in my ear whenever I hear him say “excoriate” or “Obama-Pelosi-Reid”. It’s like someone teaches him a new “big” word or catch phrase, and then he beats it to the ground because he hasn’t the vocabulary chops to use something else. And he’s so repetitive, every day that same thing over and over again, the same phrases, the same complaints, ugh. He needs to stay in shape, he is bad at tennis but he still plays, his kids play tennis and he is such a great dad he takes them to games, and on and on and on. I stopped listening to his show for 5 months, and when I tuned it in for kicks, it was the same exact show. For a second I thought it was a repeat.
Oh, and how about the “nice guy” act; what he means is “push-over mental midget”. I HATE nice guy acts, they are such phoneys.
And the guests! At least he is smart enough to pick people dumber than he is. He should team up with Colmes so he can look smart again by comparison. This is the one thing I absolutely hate Rush for: he always chooses the crappiest replacement hosts, and then they end up with a show of their own.

Posted on September 28, 2012 at 9:50amHannity is ok to listen to as a filler. As far as conservative talk show hosts go, though, he’s my least favorite. Hannity consistantly reminds me of a Republican cheerleader, during the Bush era I never heard him criticize the President even though there were plenty of things that Bush got wrong. That and the fact that he just gets annoying after a while because he spends most of his show covering the same anti-Obama talking points that, while true, are starting to fall flat because he repeats the same thing over and over again.
We didn’t get Savage where I live but I use to listen to him every now and then. Beck, Levinn, and Limbaugh are, by far, the best voices on the radio in my opinion.

If you look at his books, the inside cover lists his real name for the copyright, if he tried to hide, you’d think he’d do a better job.

As I shared on here quite a long while ago. I didn’t know what I was saying, it was just a feeling that they were spooky looking. The West Bank of the UofM is overflowing with somalis. Also, because of a job I had at a apartment bldg I became aware of how many are on section8. So, Michel is right about them on welfare programs. That is why it’s so hard to get Keith Ellison out of this congress seat and because the district being so gerrymandered. I wish I would have sold my home back in 2004 and moved, but after seeing The Project it seems that it will not matter where a person lives because it’s everywhere. A Tea Party near me uses a mall space for meetings and the sames space is used for muslims meetings. Isn’t that a scream! So in the same state of MN we have Bachmann and Ellison.. Bachmann is our saving grace in this state! Bachmann is in a really tough race right now in MN for her congress seat, if you can…support her. Also, Chris Fields is running against Ellison in the 5th district of MN. I pray people in MN will Wake up because the Progressive in MN are worse than in WI. Kurt Bills for Senate too! Posted on September 28, 2012 at 5:08amFrom what I understand, he owns the radio show now, and has not “left” anything? This man was heavily educated by the left, and it shows in his radio shows? One could wonder if the invention of the “savage” character is just trying to paint “conservatives” as raging lunatics? Was it all a joke modeled after Rush Limbaugh, to attempt to marginalize the influence of Rush? Or was it admiration for Gen Patton and the American spirit to never give up that being a “savage” is a good thing? Maybe he does not know, has anyone asked him?
I don’t think anyone does radio better than Rush Limbaugh, although when ever I listen to his competitors, they always make us feel special in their own ways? Listen and make up your own mind?
I would rather listen to Michael McDved, Mark Levin, Michael Berry, or Sean Hannity than Michael Savage? Even if you agree with the subject, you might not agree with the branding of being a “savage”? If President Obama is up in the polls, do you really believe polls in the media about anyone? Glenn Beck said question everything? Bad timing or planned? Don’t really want to know?

Posted on September 28, 2012 at 9:27amI have listened to Savage…when in CA…and when they took other hosts off the air or moved their time slot….he was always a third or fourth choice to listen too…
it wasn’t that his content was wrong or that i didn’t agree with the premise but his method of delivery was always to be abrasive, caustic, even mean and snotty….he constantly bashed the other conservative hosts as being brainless, wrong, or shills for the GOP…always acted like only he has the TRUE story and the right interpretation of it….and if anyone else in talk radio was saying the same things he was, he always made it like they got it from him…even if they had been talking about it for days before he did….
it was more of a personality conflict…he definitely did not believe in Thomas Jefferson’s premise that all ideas should be brought out and debated in the open…Savage believed pretty much the same thing as the leftists that surrounded him…. “i am right, believe me or you are an idiot”….he was also heavy into conspiracy theories and paranoid, thinking everyone was purposely trying to get him off the air or silence him or make him sound foolish….he was like that Bell guy only with a bigger audience….
i see him like the rabid RP supporters that parrot what RP says or go around calling anyone that doesn’t worship RP as a neo-con or fake believer in the Constitution

Posted on September 28, 2012 at 3:48amI used to listen to Savage until I found out he was a shill. For a guy who claimed to be intelligent he spent a great deal of time obfuscating truth. He also immediately crushed any intelligent conversations about objectivism, non-violent solutions to our problems (he preferred to bitch rather than contribute or allow anyone else to) and his actions often stood in stark contradictions to his purported beliefs and the things the said on his show. The other problem with Savage (and the rest of his ilk) is that they are tools designed to diffuse us. They say some things you want to hear, give you a little catharsis, then point you in the wrong direction (for example; leading you to believe you can actually change things by merely talking about them at the dinner table, praying or voting). We just assume that because someone shares our sentiment on national radio that something’s being done about it – and then we all wait for somebody else to deal with our problems.
I’m glad he’s gone and I hope he is not allowed to return. Now if only we could get rid of Glen Beck, Rush and Laura Ingraham we’d be on our way to finding some real conservatives who aren’t afraid of the truth – or simply con artists design to misdirect – to host radio programs. We need radio hosts that are leaders, understand history, that have real solutions rather than an unending stream of worthless criticism and the guts to put their money where their mouth is.
Good riddance to that whiny pr*ck.

Posted on September 28, 2012 at 9:12amSavage speaks the truth and he doesn’t care if it is going to hurt your feelings. That’s why he has 8 million listeners a week and that’s part of the reason I like him so much, he is not afraid to tick off his audience a little. You had to listen to Savage a couple times to understand how he operates.

Posted on September 28, 2012 at 2:46amI’ve always loved Michael Savage! We used to listen to him in the bay area of CA then in NV. I hope he comes back to radio or TV…Glenn? His 8 million and your listeners could really be a good thing! Plus we saw your unelectable in Reno and everyone laughed and clapped and cried. It was the best. Thank you Glenn Beck.

Posted on September 28, 2012 at 2:29amI liked listening to him, but they had him on so late, it was hard to. Now, maybe he can get out of that hell-hole called San Francisco and go somewhere more relaxing. I hope he gets back into talk radio.

Posted on September 28, 2012 at 5:42amSeems the timing on this thing is a bit off.
Somehow it just doesn’t ring true.
We will see, won’t we?
