These are the Top 5 Worst Taxes ‘Obamacare’ Will Impose in 2013

The Grover Norquist-founded Americans for Tax Reform, a 501(c)(4) lobbying group that opposes “all tax increases as a matter of principle,” on Friday released a list of what, they say, are the top five worst taxes The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (i.e. “Obamacare”) will impose on Americans in 2013.

The ‘Obamacare’ Medical Device Tax

Tax Increase: $20 Billion

Medical device manufacturers employ 409,000 people in 12,000 plants across the country. Obamacare imposes a new 2.3 percent excise tax on gross sales — even if the company does not earn a profit in a given year. In addition to killing small business jobs and impacting research and development budgets, this will increase the cost of your health care — making everything from pacemakers to prosthetics more expensive.

The ‘Obamacare’ ‘Special Needs Kids Tax’

Tax Increase: $13 Billion

The 30-35 million American who use a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) at work to pay for their family’s basic medical needs will face a new government cap of $2,500 (currently the accounts are unlimited under federal law, though employers are allowed to set a cap).

There is one group of FSA owners for whom this new cap will be particularly cruel and onerous: parents of special needs children. There are several million families with special needs children in the United States, and many of them use FSAs to pay for special needs education. Tuition rates at one leading school that teaches special needs children in Washington, D.C. (National Child Research Center) can easily exceed $14,000 per year. Under tax rules, FSA dollars can be used to pay for this type of special needs education. This Obamacare tax provision will limit the options available to these families.

The ‘Obamacare’ Surtax on Investment Income

Tax Increase: $123 Billion

This is a new, 3.8 percentage point surtax on investment income earned in households making at least $250,000 ($200,000 single). This would result in the following top tax rates on investment income:

The table above also incorporates the scheduled hike in the capital gains rate from 15 to 20 percent, and the scheduled hike in dividends rate from 15 to 39.6 percent.

The ‘Obamacare’ ‘Haircut’ for Medical Itemized Deductions

Tax Increase: $15.2 Billion

Currently, those Americans facing high medical expenses are allowed a deduction to the extent that those expenses exceed 7.5 percent of adjusted gross income (AGI). This tax increase imposes a threshold of 10 percent of AGI. By limiting this deduction, Obamacare widens the net of taxable income for the sickest Americans. This tax provision will most harm near retirees and those with modest incomes but high medical bills.

The ‘Obamacare’ Medicare Payroll Tax Hike

Tax Increase: $86.8 Billion

The Medicare payroll tax is currently 2.9 percent on all wages and self-employment profits. Under this tax hike, wages and profits exceeding $200,000 ($250,000 in the case of married couples) will face a 3.8 percent rate instead. This is a direct marginal income tax hike on small business owners, who are liable for self-employment tax in most cases. Here’s something to add to your arsenal when talking to the blokes who STILL support the Big 0 and Obamacare:

  That is absolutely false. The tax only applies if you make a profit of
  over $250,000 (single) or over $500,000 (married). The tax is only applied
  to the profit over and above the two above mentioned figures. It obviously
  only applies to the super, super rich !! I cannot believe the misinformation

  I am not saying it is right or wrong. I just get irritated when people,
  like FROGSTER, make outlandish statements. If he would have read
  the comments at the bottom of the link he provided he would have seen
  the truth. Perhaps he did but made the statement anyway to rile people
  up against the bill. If a married couple sells a residence and makes a
  profit of $1,000,000 they have to pay a tax of 3.8% on $500,000. So
  they keep $981,000 and pay a tax of $19,000. This is far different than

  @RG So, from your post RG, your are corecct in the taxed amount but, even the thought of more taxes for a government which cannot effectively spend the revenue it already receives is unthinkable to me. We’re rapidly becoming statist society where only the politically connected are protected at the expense of the producers. How much more do you want to take from those who create the jobs? Do you see small business owners as selfish and greedy? If the purpose of your post is to point out the error of the original post then job done. Don’t label a board because of a particular post.   NUMBER ONE: This INSANE OBAMACARE does NOT cover those “uncovered”…there are as many, if not MORE who will be uncovered;. does NOT save us money…in fact costs each of us THOUSANDS MORE. What about the out of work folks – the 23 MILLION? How are they supposed to pay health care (or be fined or jailed). But that sawed off SOB can hire 16,000 IRS AGENTS as his BROWNSHIRTS. does NOT address market competition (across State lines); does NOT address FRAUD (about 1/5 of the cost of medical); does NOT address streamlining forms!!

  I don’t disagree that the whole ObamaCare bill is “wrong”. but – as for the house sale tax – that’s what happens when your house is an investment rather than a home. First and foremost – you overpay for the building anyway and are cheated at every turn on the quality and material by the builder. Who doesn’t care that housing prices are inflated – government – collecting taxes – taxes on the sale to start and then property taxes every year into the future. The real estate agents aren’t into it either – the higher the price – the more they rake in for their percentage. First the buyer gets screwed on an overpriced house that somehow is going to increase in value exponentially over the years – although, just like your car – it requires constant upkeep, new parts and maintenance and loses much of it’s value the day you drive it off the lot; then the seller is screwed with taxes on a house that the taxes has already been paid.

  RG from Texas: The profit that people supposedly “make” is not profit but fiat profit. My parents bought a 3 bedroom house in 1974 for 79,000.00, Today they can expect to sell it for $349,000.00. How much “profit” do you think they made? Absolutely none, they lost value. Stealing is wrong, and if you didn’t learn that in church or from your mama, then we can blame you for obama.

  Simple question(s) – even though its in O-Care Bill:
  1. WHY should Big-G profit [tax] from a person(s) selling a piece of real estate?
  Down-line reasoning: Penalize Ownership, maybe?
  2. WHY should a company that doesn’t profit from machine creation operations pay a tax to Big-G?
  Down-line reasoning: Penalize Corporations/Small Biz – why hire more workers, maybe?
  3. FSA/Special Needs – Why would Big-G limit personal/business funding of self pay or pay-go accounts?
  Down-line reasoning: Make people more dependent on the Big-G health program
  4. Surtax on Investment Income? Why do that?
  Down-line reasoning: Penalize people that invest in their future or try to skimp & save fore a
  future- Big-G is never satisfied!
  5. Medicare tax rate hike on employers – this doesn’t encourage biz to hire and discourages biz growth or even startups. that’s going a long way in the supposed support of all bisiness in the US.
  
  O-Care must be repealled. Medicare and Social Securiy needs to be revamped, Tax Code needs to be cut way down. We have to get real with ourselves. All this must be done if we’re going to cut the cost curves downward. Entitlements are choking the budget! Please note: ONLY +/-70M taxpayers pay for the over 330M citizens in the US [& untold illegal citizens -thx for paying but get legal] AND a taxpayer is a citizen, couple or a business entity.

  maybe the thing that should upset you is that any thing about real estate in any way shape or form in actually in a so called health care bill. Now do you understand why it has to be dismantled and taken apart and disposed of? this is why so many are so mad. Just one more thing.   Here is MY real life example of the “super rich” as you call them. My husband bought a house 17 years ago for $120,000. Over the course of those years he spent a lot of money (AFTER tax income) remodeling and upgrading. Buying building supplies that – mind you – he paid SALES TAX on. Now, after our kids are grown and are approaching retirement age, the value of the house is approximately $375,000. That meets the $250,000 “profit” threshold you mention. So now after paying our mortgage on time every month for all of those years AND using our hard-earned, taxed income to purchase taxed building supplies we are supposed to pay MORE taxes because we are super-rich? Oh, BTW, I make less than $50,000/year and he has his own business that he has run by himself (no employees) for the last 25 years. For your post I would surmise that we qualify as the nasty “super-super rich” who should have to give someone else the rewards of their hard work….FORGET THAT!

For all you Gary Johnson/I don’t want to vote for Romney folks, loo up what influence Ross Perrot did to the Republican Party .. It put the Rupblicans on the back burner and allowed the progressives to take over.

You want to put in true conservatives in power, do it at the local level. schools, county supervisors, mayors, sheriffs, state legislators, and governors .. then maybe someone will emerge as a true leader not a flip floper like Johnson.

  I would rather see Obama win this election, quickly followed by a bloody civil war to regain our constitutionally guaranteed Liberty than to vote for the same unconstitutional bs that we need to abolish from this nation. A vote for Romney IS a vote for continued debt spending, nationalized healthcare, and further welfare spending. All of which will be the downfall of this nation in short order. Trust me when I say that I would rather raise my unborn child in a world without running water and electricity but with true Liberty and sovereignty of the Citizen than in today’s world of national enslavement to public debt. That is no lie. The only way I can think of to make that happen is if a miracle happens and Romney voters come to their senses and stop being pig-headed “Republican” party voters and really vote their conscience, or if we have a civil war. The only other option is if a meteor hits D.C. and destroys all capability of our federal government to function. But, the only one that isn’t a pipe dream or fantasy is the one that involves violence. And really, that doesn’t shock me and it shouldn’t shock you. Because contrary to what we were taught in school, violence is the only thing that really ever solved anything. This nation was won through violence against an enemy that claimed ownership of the people. It can and should happen again.

  Hey WSheep, Romney knows why the constitution was written and he’ll be the first president to protect it since Reagan. He is more like George Washington than any other President we’ve had and he’ll do what is right for the country and the constitution. This is all about insurance. Insurance is not health care. Ask anyone who as dealt with serious illness wether insurance equals health care. Insurance is not the solution. It is the problem. We need to change the language and the argument. LET US NOT CALL IT OBAMACARE WHEN IT IS OBAMAINSURANCE. And we all know insurance is just a promise to pay you Tuesday for a burger today.

  You are correct. Most insureds do not care about cost of goods or services as long as the insurance company picks up the bill. Insurance companies try to combat waste and fraud. But they can only do so much. Ultimately, they just pass the cost on to the consumer. We are at or near the breaking point with respect to many types of insurance for this reason. In Florida homeowners insurance companies are leaving the state.

I really think Obummer is a socialist with a hidden agenda. What I don’t understand is with all his failures, people still flock after him like he’s an antichrist or demon of some kind. All you have to do is look at gas prices along with money printing to see that the econ. is falling even further in the hole. Given that he has taken every step to keep us energy dependant knowing that the billions spent on green power would be waisted. Part of his plan to bring this great country down.

  A couple of years ago, a preacher friend of mine who works with Jews and Christians in Israel told me something very interesting. Jesus actually said Barack Obama’s name during his lifetime. Barack Obama’s name in Hebrew means “Lightning from a High Place”. High Place can also be translated as Heaven, which is how most Bible translations translate it. In the Hebrew Bible (the language that Jesus was probably using when he spoke the words), in Luke 10:18 (and I’ll translate everything except for Obama’s name), Jesus said “I beheld Satan as Barack Obama”.

Talk to people. That is the only way. I make it my business to discuss the election with at least one person a day. You would be surprised at how many know so little. For the Obama lovers I approach it in a purely selfish way (because they are) their energy bills. I remind them about the gas prices and where Obama plans to take us with his green energy nonsense. I have not met one Obama supporter who knows anything about closed coal mines or refused permits. They think he will lower their costs and it is the big bad oil companies at fault. I have opened up a few minds. Does it matter? I don’t know but they do think about it for the first time.

I too want more from my next President but think about how long it has taken to get us to this point we are at now – YEARS! Do you really think we are going to change everything back in one election? If you do you are a fool who really needs to take a good hard look at your kids and grandkids and what you will do to them by THROWING AWAY YOUR VOTE – hard reality but that’s what you will be doing. This is the starting point for the years of work it will take to get us back on track where we need to be and ANYTHING but a Romney / Ryan vote will kill this country. If we all stick together and work towards the things we have in common WE WILL PREVAIL IN THE LONG RUN BUT IT WILL NOT HAPPEN WITH ONE ELECTION! There is no magic pixie dust, wand or anything else that will reverse the damage that has been done without years of work on OUR PART – PERIOD!
  
  Please think about these facts on November 6th – I will be – I have 4 kids and 3 grandkids futures to think about – I have lived outside the U.S. and have seen what the rest of the world lives like and have firsthand experience with the Muslims overseas and what they are capable of – don’t give away our last shot at saving the greatest country in the world…………

News flash for all you Romney/Ryan fans: casting our vote for a third party candidate isn’t giving Obama the WH. It’s a statement that Romney and Obama failed to appease their audiences. While you vote based on the (R) and (D) next to their name, we vote based on our beliefs, particularly: freedom. If Romney wins, that means he convinced enough voters that he is the right man for the job. If Obama wins, that means he convinced enough voters that he is the right man for the job. Grow up and quit playing the blame game. Accept that your candidate may lose and it is no one’s fault but their own for running an unsuccessful campaign. Doubling of gas prices? 1/6 of the economy spent on health care?   I believe it will be a landslide election in favor of Romney. The left is desperate. The media believes if it can skew the polls and show Barry ahead that it will discourage some voters not to vote. This election reminds me of Carter vs. Reagan-the polls show Carter with a good lead. So just based on the figures given, $288 Billion is estimated to be drained out of the economy; while in fact it probabley will be triple that amount, collapsing even more business and our nation being shoved over the brink into the abyss.

ObamaCare has to be repealed and staked out to the ground in the daylight.

  It’s interesting that you mention the stars and planets… Hate to have to tell you, but as a matter of fact, the stars/planets are going to be in a very UNFAVORABLE POSITION around election time… That old Trickster MERCURY RETROGRADE will be in effect… which, if you are not aware of its influence, usually means a lot of CONFUSION, LYING, CHEATING, STEALING, BOUNDARY VIOLATING, COMMUNICATION BREAKDOWNS, EQUIPMENT SNAFUS AND FAILURES, ESPECIALLY ELECTRONIC, TELEPHONE/VIDEO, ETC. (i.e., 3.5 weeks of chaos…)
  
  Whether this will bode well for Romney or better for Obama, is anybody’s guess; but judging from all the LYING & CHEATING & BOUNDARY VIOLATIONS we’ve endured for the past almost-four years, it does NOT bode well for Romney/Ryan. Have a feeling the vote-counting, hand-wringing, and skewed (dishonest) media reporting will drag on as a prolonged, tormented ordeal that makes the Minnesota/Comedian election look like child’s play.
