What was a dream wedding quickly became a nightmare for a Pennsylvania couple when they said they awoke the next morning to find all their presents had been stolen.
Amy and Jason Wright had a reception on a friend’s farm last weekend complete with a horse and carriage. When they started to clean up the next morning, they noticed their gifts had vanished.
“Somebody had come and taken all of the wedding gifts,” Amy Wright told WFMZ-TV. “Every last card was gone, the boxes, the gift bags.”
The gifts had been set up under an outdoor tent and then left out unattended after the party broke up and everyone went to bed.
“We noticed there were no gifts on the table [in one tent], and we said, well, somebody must have moved them into the house,” Wright told the Allentown Morning Call. “We checked with our friends, and no one seemed to know what happened to the gifts.”
She and her host got into a golf cart to scour the 25-acre farm and soon came upon torn-up gift bags and empty card envelopes. In order to make a police report, they first had to know what was stolen.
“We had to call every one of our guests to ask them, for the police report, what did they give?” Wright told the newspaper. “It was embarrassing. Everyone had to call their banks and cancel checks or cancel gift cards.”
In all, the total came to about $10,000 in cash and presents. The couple has offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of whoever is responsible.
“It’s such a nightmare,” Wright said. “This is so emotional for everybody. Who would do this?”

Sep. 29, 2012 at 11:12amThat has to ruin your day, waking up after the party and all your stuff’s gone. What a bummer.
However if you think you are on a 25 acre “farm”, you have a lot to learn, and this is one of life’s little lessons that smart a bit. But maybe it will save you a lot more stuff in the future.
If there is something of value that’s not red hot or nailed down, someone will try to make off with it. We are enjoying the culture of “do what feels good”.
Half our citizens have no idea what income tax is, or where their freebies come from.

Sep. 29, 2012 at 10:49amWell, personally I would have secured the gifts, but way too many people are a bit careless and too trusting, IMO. I know people who tend this way–and they have things stolen as a result.
I grew up in a home with careful parents who locked doors, etc.
Some people seem to live this life as if nothing bad could ever happen to them–until, of course it does.
This couple has learned a hard lesson–well, I hope for THEIR sakes they learned it!
NO place is completely safe–”personal farm” or whatnot. And sadly, it may just have been an “inside job.” :( (Which also means items could have been taken anyway. . .) They should have been left under the charge of a trusted person. But hindsight IS 20/20!

Sep. 29, 2012 at 10:27am*sigh* On the one hand, it may have been rural enough that they felt safe enough to leave them outside. On the OTHER hand it’s the job of the best man and the bridesmaid to take care of the gifts. So I can’t blame this couple. Whomever did the stealing is going to hell. I’m a firm believer in the 10 Commandments. To steal is to lose your soul. They will pay dearly for that theft. I do feel sorry for the couple tho.

Sep. 29, 2012 at 10:40amKind of a “gain the whole world, but lose your own soul” kind of thing?
Maybe. But as long as there is life, there is still time for whoever to repent and be forgiven.
However, for now, whoever took these items likely does NOT know God and is in NEED of Him, whether he/she/they know it or not. To “gain” a few trinkets from what this world has to offer and lose eternal “gain” is the saddest state I can imagine!

Sep. 29, 2012 at 10:54amActually, anytime announcements are made, publically (newspaper, radio, TV, Twitter, etc.), there is a great risk of attracting unintentional and unwanted attention! It is better for public announcements to be by invitation BEFORE the event, and public annoucements to be made AFTERWARD. This can be difficult for things like funerals, but shouldn’t be a problem for weddings and birth annoucements. The farm dogs were probably corralled in the house to keep them from eating leftovers, which if chocolate, can easily kill them.

Sep. 29, 2012 at 9:55amPeople have to put steal cages around their AC units as people steal them off their houses. People switch tags on packages to get the expensive items at a cheap prices. People will steal a 20K worth of live copper wire to sell for $200 of scrap value.
This could have been an inside job if it was on a farm but people look to see what was new and what they could take. They saw a wedding and knew there was something there one could take and the gifts where the best day they had. Of the 10K worth of stuff stolen they might get $1000 at a pawn shop or the stuff will end up in the gutter as it is not worth any in re-sale.

Really, who leaves that amount of presents just in a tent outside? In today’s economy? In the 80′s I worked for a fireworks stand out of a tent. Every night we loaded the product up and took it away, and then restocked in the morning, it’s common sense to not leave anything valuable outside unattended. If you are having a wedding outside (or a reception), don’t assume someone else is going to look after your presents.
