Biden Blames Republicans for National Debt in Discussion of the ‘Facts’
Vice President Joe Biden was discussing the national debt with a group of supporters over the weekend in Florida when he told the audience to “get serious” about labeling its true source.
In an article titled “Biden Blames Bush Administration for Deficit,” ABC relates:
“Let’s get serious here! How did we get this debt? Ladies and gentlemen, they put two wars on a credit card. Not paying a penny, not paying a penny, even though I introduced legislation to pay for that war. They voted against it,” Biden said at the Wa-Ke Hatchee Park Recreation Center.
“Two, they voted for a new entitlement program without paying one penny for it, and that was clear. Number 3, they added another trillion dollars in the tax cut for the very wealthy, so what’s the result? These are the facts, folks, these are the facts.
“The result was by the time the reins got turned back over to Barack [Obama] and me, they had doubled the national debt in eight years, doubled the national debt in eight years,” Biden added. [Emphasis added]
Here is video of Biden’s remarks, via C-SPAN (relevant remarks around 13:00):
While no one is denying the national debt increased during the Bush administration, many point out that it has only increased at a more rapid rate under the leadership of Barack Obama.
A spokesman for Mitt Romney hammered the vice president for his remarks, writing in a statement:
“President Obama and Vice President Biden have no credibility on reducing our national debt… Over the last four years, the Obama-Biden team has presided over the largest increase in the national debt of any administration in history. And President Obama’s latest spending plan is riddled with accounting gimmicks and tax hikes, rather than policies that will get our long-term debt under control. Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan will take immediate steps to cut spending and put our nation on track toward a balanced budget.” [Emphasis added]

Speaking at his own campaign appearance last week, Mitt Romney said: “And by the way, those debts get passed on to our kids. It’s not just bad for the economy; it’s not just bad for our job creation…in my opinion, it is immoral for us to pass on obligations like that to the next generation.”

Posted on September 30, 2012 at 12:27amYou are missing the really important thing that he said: “”We were sitting in the oval office, and Larry Summers, the chief economic adviser, and the economic team came in and said ‘Mr. President, looking at this year’s budget you are going to have a trillion dollar deficit.’ He said, ‘I haven’t done anything yet,’” Biden said. “I’m serious. They said, ‘No, Mr. President, the budget they passed, the budget they passed in October of last year guarantees no matter what you do you’re going to have a trillion dollar debt this year in the budget.’ A trillion dollar deficit to be precise.” The THEY he was referring to is the democrat controlled Congress. Bush had NOTHING to do with it. Biden stumbled onto the truth that is was Reid, Pelosi et al and not Bush and the Republicans who ran up that debt.

It’s ALL Bush’s fault and if Obama wins in November all the problems of the next four years will be Bush’s fault.

I have said here several times how dismayed I am to know and otherwise respect a number of people who are still going to vote for that charlatan. They are what I call the “Purposely Ignorant.” The other half are those that have the gall to call themselves journalists. These people should be tried for something, I don’t know what, but some prosecutor should come up with something. They have subverted the purpose behind their profession into something only someone like Goebbels would love and support. These reporters all practice their trade in way that belittles all media, editorializing on just about every story in some papers. It truly makes me sad.

Posted on September 30, 2012 at 2:34pm@PointBreak…man, great postI have been saying that for a long time, and I get some of the strangest looks. It is a clear and obvious answer to the all the ‘problems’ our government creates financial accounts for,….we just stop funding them. It is our money, so why can’t we say “No”? If it were somehow possible, it would be a very effective strategy for all of us to just stop paying federal income taxes. I cannot see how we would stop paying sales taxes, etc, but the 52% – 53% of us who DO pay income taxes should just take the reins and say ‘Enough’!! Enough of this crap where YOU give OUR money to Greece, Egypt and all the other countries who spit on us but hold their hands out for our money. I once heard that actor who played “Coach” on t.v. make the very same statement about not paying his taxes anymore. He feels as many of us do, in that if you have an overly serious problem with spending, you cut off the supply line until they get themselves under control. Our gov’t is way out of control. I cannot understand how anyone would be opposed to this idea….stop paying your federal income taxes. They going to put us all in jail? Without our money, they couldn’t even do that.

Posted on September 29, 2012 at 11:19pmThe debt can never be cut, both parties expanded it because they can’t stop it.
if the debt were cut or even a balanced budget implemented the global economy would crash in a massive deflationary depression, the US would lose its global reserve status and Americas currency would collapse in value as ###s flood back into the US. The trick is to expand the debt, but hide it off the books..and devalue (inflate) the currency… that is what they have been doing. The real debt and obligations is around 120 trillion. It can’t ever be paid and in fact if it were paid there would be no money. I know crazy right..
all money/bonds/credit is loaned into existence
money/bonds/credit is debt plus interest
if debts are paid the money/bonds gets extinguished..
therefore, new debt creation is essential to keep the financial system going
a classic ponzi.. thanks Keynesian central planning socialists…
Both parties have been playing a game of cook the books, hide the debt and maintain the ponzi… they have to it is a systemic imperative. Nobody will tell the public the truth.
The financial system is really a classic ponzi scheme by Keynesians and the debt must expand to keep the game going.
IMO, the only way out is a collapse of the system and restart, but it will be very painful and who knows what we’ll get after..

Posted on September 30, 2012 at 12:21pmSoy, did you know that Seniors pay between $100.00-$115.00 per month to have Medicare Part B, which is automatically taken out of their Social Security checks each month? Did you also know that each Seniors who has Medicare Part B also has to pay $140.00 deductible per year before Part B will even start paying? Now think about how this affects Seniors who may only get about $800.00 per month in Social Security before Medicare and Medicare Part B is taken out, this leaves very little for them to live on. If Medicare would not have made the steep cuts in coverage, they would not have needed Medicare Part B at all.
On the other hand, maybe if we forced Public Union employee’s to start paying a lot more towards their Health Insurance and Pensions and use the savings to pay for Medicare Part B, then the problem would be solved. I would much rather take care of our Seniors, than to pay for entitlements to spoiled Public Union employee’s.

Posted on September 29, 2012 at 10:55pmIf you want to blame bush fine, barak has had three years to fix the problem. Basic money facts are that you cant borrow yourself out of debt. You promised to get the debt under control, youve only increased it. Where is america any better than it was 4 years ago.

So what’s Romney’s plan except to exponentially increase military spending for his new navy?

Posted on September 29, 2012 at 10:53pmWhat are we now going to deny that Bush drastically increased the National Debt? Obama drastically increased it as well. Romney has no plan to cut the debt. Anyone that thinks he can while increasing the military and not chopping one department or social program is a fool. So you know he’s just another con artist politician. Both parties suck so much.

Posted on September 30, 2012 at 12:19amWell, here you go again……
Saying that each party is as bad as the other is juvenile. We may not get much corrected under a Romney Administration, but at least it will arrest the constant damage done by the Obama Regime. In order to fight cancer and put it in remission, you first have to arrest it.
Arrest Obama!

Posted on September 30, 2012 at 5:47amThe “dynamic duo” speak at these rallies full of uninformed zombies and tell them a bunch of BS. They are clearly banking on this group to put them back in the WH. Hopefully there are more of us who know what BHO has been doing these last 4 years than them. BTW if Romney got specific on how h’d cut spending, the liberal press wold hammer him even more than they do now (if that’s possible).

Posted on September 30, 2012 at 6:27amWoodeye, Way to weigh in on the national debt discussion with a deficit graph… not exactly the same thing… Besides your graph makes Kennedy, Carter and Clinton look better than Reagan. Was that your point? lol

Saw that graph, did you notice that 4 out of the 5 worst debt presidents are republican? And the three best presidents are democrat. Yikes. This is why we say the republicans are not much better than democrats (and according to that chart, they are worse)

Posted on September 30, 2012 at 9:17amYeah Soy, but that doesn’t reflect democrat tax increases either when talking deficits. Here’s the national debt graph by party.

We all know what needs to be done. We need to cut every single agency and program that violates the 9th and 10th, stop fighting wars, and probably have to raise taxes on the wealthy too (at least cut out the loopholes and end subsidies) to shrink the debt. What’s interesting is look at the graph from the time Evil Bush (it’s easier to just call them evil Bush and dumb Bush) announced his NWO. But yeah, it’s only Soros who is wanting a “managed decline of the dollar”.
