Muslims Burn Buddhist Holy Sites in Bangladesh Over Photo of the Quran

(TheBlaze/AP) — Thousands of Bangladeshi Muslims angry over an alleged derogatory photo of the Quran on Facebook set fire to at least 10 Buddhist temples and 40 homes near the southern border with Myanmar, authorities said Sunday.

“I have seen 11 wooden temples, two of them 300 years old, torched by the mob. They looted precious items and Buddha statues from the temples. Shops owned by Buddhists were also looted,” local journalist Sunil Barua said, according to Russia Today.

The violence began late Saturday and continued until early Sunday, said Nojibul Islam, a police chief in the coastal district of Cox’s Bazar.

He said the situation was under control Sunday afternoon after extra security officials were deployed and the government banned public gatherings in the troubled area.

He said at least 20 people were injured in the attacks that followed the posting of a Facebook photo of a burned copy of the Quran. The rioters blamed the photo on a local Buddhist boy, though it was not immediately clear if the boy actually posted the photo.

Bangladesh’s popular English-language Daily Star newspaper quoted the boy as saying that the photo was mistakenly tagged on his Facebook profile. The newspaper reported that soon after the violence broke out, the boy’s Facebook account was closed and police escorted him and his mother to safety.

Joinul Bari, chief government administrator in Cox’s Bazar district, said authorities detained the boy’s parents and were investigating.

“We’ve called in army along with paramilitary troopers and police who were constantly guarding the areas to ward off any further violence,” Bari assured.

Bangladeshi Home Minister Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice, and reportedly told Bangladeshi media: “The attack was conducted in a coordinated manner. Temples and houses were set on fire using patrol and gun powder. It would have been impossible if the attacks were not planned.”

Buddhists make up less than 1 percent of Muslim-majority Bangladesh’s 150 million people.

The Bangladeshi violence follows protests that erupted in Muslim countries over the past month, beginning largely in Egypt and Libya on September 11.

Some two dozen demonstrators have been killed in protests that attacked symbols of U.S. and the West, including diplomatic compounds, and the protests appear to be spreading.

  @ Smokey – I’m no Obama fan, but we must be fair. This is the entire quote. He condemns all the violence from anyone. “The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam. But to be credible, those who condemn that slander must also condemn the hate we see in the images of Jesus Christ that are desecrated, or churches that are destroyed, or the Holocaust that is denied.”

This is what happens when the devil duo in the White House seek to shut us up by disparaging free speech in favor of the Islamist savages who always solve their problems through mob violence, plunder, genocide and occupation. Hillary Clinton, by signing UN Resolution 1618 with the OIC by her side, has thereby ciminalized any criticism of Islam’s no tolerance in a foreign land, no less, and agregiously disregarded our 1st Amendment of the U.S. Constitution which she is sworn to uphold.
So is it any wonder that these Islamist savages continue their mass chaos and murder because they know all the dhimmis in our Western governments will cave to their Supremacist demands.

It’s time for we the people to take the reins back from these dhimmis who continue down their path of collaborating with and outright appeasing and appologizing to the 7th century savages of mass destruction. Isn’t 1400 years of their plunder enough? And here’s the history that you were never taught in any school about Islam. There was no Golden Age in Islam. Africa used to be Christian.   I have found that the Buddhist are peaceful people and do not bother others much. Their temples are really pretty and well cared for with love. They do not deserve this kind of treatment.
  The Muslims want to destroy everything that is not of Allah and Muhammad. Since Allah and Muhammad has never created anything. Plus all the Muslims put together, over their entire history, have never produced anything of real value — everything must be destroyed. I guess living in the 6th century is a good way to live. Personally I like my flush toilets.

Buddhists…just about the most gentle and wise people you could come across…Gentle because they are taught to be. Wise, because they are taught to THINK before they act.
—-and the Muslims are pissed off at them now too.

Are the Muslims pissed off at anyone else? Lets see: Christians/Buddhists/Hindus/ ANYONE WHO DOES NOT SEE THE WORLD AS THEY DO/ etc. Did I leave anyone out?

  I am sorry for these attacks, but people, Christianity is the only religion of peace. Go to the Gospel for Asia website and see how Buddhism stratifies people into castes that leave some as mere prey for the higher-ups. (The untouchables, dalits, “slumdogs”) That is as much a part of Buddhist culture as peaceful monks in pretty temples. Do not lose sight of the truth.

  Where is Rosie the Revisionist? Odd. She usually can’t wait to tell us how this is the other guy’s fault. Well, according to most Islamicists, being alive and not being Muslim would mean you’re pretty much waiting your turn for their special brand of tolerance and peace. So, from a certain point of view, the entire non-Islamic world is “asking for it”. Now there’s a logic argument that can go places.
