(TheBlaze/AP) — A weakening tropical storm was speeding out of Japan on Monday after bringing gale-strength winds to Tokyo and injuring dozens of people, causing blackouts and paralyzing traffic to the south and west of the capital.

Japan’s Meteorological Agency had warned Tokyo residents to stay indoors while Typhoon Jelawat passed Sunday night. The storm then had winds of up to 126 kilometers (78 miles) an hour but weakened to a tropical storm with 108 kph (67 mph) in the morning.

On Sunday, Nagoya city issued an evacuation advisory to more than 50,000 residents because of fear of flooding from a swollen river. A similar advisory was issued for more than 10,000 people in the northern city of Ishinomaki that was hit by last year’s tsunami.
Here is raw video from the Associated Press, which includes a shot of a car flying across the road:
The typhoon left 145 people with minor injuries in southern and western Japan, about half of them on the southern island of Okinawa, public broadcaster NHK said. Tens of thousands of homes were without electricity.

Kyodo news agency reported one fatality, a man who was swept away by seawater while fishing in Okinawa.
Dozens of trains were halted in coastal areas around Tokyo and many stores inside the capital closed early Sunday as the storm approached. It is expected to move into the Pacific Ocean early Monday.

Oct. 1, 2012 at 9:36amWhat is up with that TheBlaze?
Yes, Sleez’s comment was a bit insensitive to the Japanese people going through this typhoon, but it is true, and I am sure that he might be speaking up for family that was lost, or if not he speaks for others.
By removing his comment much of the comments here won’t make sense, as they are in reaction to what he wrote. By this type of meddling you are discouraging people to comment on TheBlaze, which is one of the things that made TheBlaze more unique, from the main stream Fox News type websites, that hide the comments from the viewers. Come to think about it, I have not visited Fox news website since they removed “Freedom Watch” with Judge Andrew Napolitano.
Don’t be afraid of information, and feel the need to suppress it. Let your readers hold the comment section to account…

Oct. 1, 2012 at 9:17amEvolved! as in from a Rock!!
It is idiotic evolutionary atheist that has brought about the biggest atrocities in the world. Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, etc…
To think that Japan has “evolved” from committing atrocities, is truly ignorant. Al men are sinners and apart from God is able to commit awful sins. It must be your liberal education and your years of watching TV and Disney that would enable you to say such rubbish! It could happen right here. We have seen a host of sick people, as in serial killers, and we seem to see more and more especially as we have turned from God, and I am not talking the government, I am talking about the citizens that make up this country.
If you read history what do you find but, wars, bloodshed, and evil of every kind. The average public school educated person knows very little about history, and many are so ignorant to think that it could not happen here. I hope and pray that it doesn’t, but with the DHS purchasing 1.5 billion rounds of 40mm ammo, including hollow points. While there appears to be FEMA camps throughout this nation, along with the increasing “food shortage”, while there is no food shortages yet, as though to have us mentally prepare for it. I am afraid that we will see awful things here in the not so distant future:

Sep. 30, 2012 at 10:53pmDear Japan,
You erased it from your history books but we remember the “Chinese Holocaust” that made the Jewish Concentration camps look like Disneyland.
Remember Unit 731?
Remember over 6 million Chinese deaths?
Remember intentionally giving the Chinese the Bubonic Plague?
Remember tearing open our bodies, many of whom were still alive, to see the effects of the plague?
Remember putting us in pressure chambers until our eyes exploded from their sockets?
Remember spinning us to death in centrifuges after injecting us with animals’ blood?
Remember removing our stomachs and directly attaching our esophagus to our intestines?
Remember amputating our arms and re-attaching them on the opposite sides?
Remember poisoning our wells and ponds with typhoid?
Remember feeding our children candy, cakes, and food infected with a myriad of contagions?
Remember infecting our villages with glanders disease where only 1 in 20 would survive?
Remember those that survived glanders disease eventually died from giant rotting open sores?
Remember killing ALL civilians by excavating the heart, decapitation, live burials, castration, tying us up to be used as bayonet targets, removing our eyes, roasting/cooking our people, hanging us by our tongues on iron hooks, carving our organs, and eating the cooked flesh of our women after 15-20 soldiers raped and shot them?
We Remember,
China

You are right, and this is the reason that history is so important. For those of you that have not heard about this go and read “Rape of Nankin” The author “supposedly” committed suicide a few years after the book was written that goes into detail about it from the Chinese sides as well as the Japanese soldiers that committed the atrocities. This book is like the movie “Schindlers List” which should be mandetory for schools to show to the students. Your tone I must say sounds vengeful and perhaps that is the reason for the comment by @Joelack55. He makes a good point as well, as we can look in most civilasations and find aweful acts being committed at different times. All men are sinners and fall short :( That is why we see the evil in this world.
Bible says in Galations 5:19
The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

Oct. 1, 2012 at 1:58amMany genocides have been erased from history. Japan certainly does not have this in any of their history books. The Germans teach their children about the holocaust while the Japanese hide their holocaust from their children. I’m not advocating that China should attack Japan – both countries have horrible records of human rights’ violations. Just saying, I can understand why the Chinese hate the Japanese, especially since Japan has denied these events of ever happening and has remained unrepentant and without remorse.

Oct. 1, 2012 at 12:34pmThank you Blaze for keeping allowing these comments re: Japan/China. Folks need to know the history of a country…maybe that way we can try to avoid such in the future.
Thank you Sleezevil for posting. Many people don’t know what the Japanese did to the Chinese folks during your war. The Japanese are very nice to their own people, but not always nice to other races. Our soldiers in WWII suffered greatly from the Japanese (think concentration camps).
I do however have some respect for today’s Japanese. We should not punish all Japanese (current or past) for the inhumane treatment from a few of their ancestors. I feel the same way about the black slavery…we cannot punish today’s generation of folks who treat black-skinned people with respect…because of their past treatments by the whites. Same with Germany. Or how about Africa? I’m from Indian territory…and we had the same discussion regarding Indians. I didn’t do it!! None of my ancestors hurt the Indians (they were from Europe). So why should I be condemned?
I feel sorry for some parents of children that murder/rape/steal, etc. Perhaps the parents raised their kids badly…but just maybe they raised them well. It’s the fault of the person who committed the crime. Period.
