Here Are 5 Things You Didn’t Know About Operation Fast and Furious

Editor’s Note: This story contains a graphic photo from Univision’s Fast and Furious report.

On Sunday night, the Spanish-language Univision News aired a “bombshell” hour-long report on their investigation into Operation Fast and Furious, revealing brand new evidence of international weapons smuggling by the U.S. government.

In other words, Univision News took on the job that the mainstream media in the U.S. has failed to do thus far. They also displayed extremely disturbing images of the bloody carnage that occurred as a result of the misguided program.

Here are some things you didn’t know about Operation Fast and Furious and other gun-walking operations.

1. 57 Previously Unreported Guns From Fast and Furious Discovered

One of the most explosive revelations made in the Univision News special involves 57 previously unreported firearms from Fast and Furious that were reportedly used in a number of murders and kidnappings.

After cross-referencing the serial numbers of guns used in Fast and Furious against guns confiscated in Mexico, Univision found that about 100 guns were used in crimes and 57 of the guns were not included in an official congressional investigation.

2. Fast and Furious Guns Used in Two Grisly Massacres

ABC News reports, citing Mexican Army documents obtained exclusively by Univision News:

On January 30, 2010, a commando of at least 20 hit men parked themselves outside a birthday party of high school and college students in Villas de Salvarcar, Ciudad Juarez. Near midnight, the assassins, later identified as hired guns for the Mexican cartel La Linea, broke into a one-story house and opened fire on a gathering of nearly 60 teenagers. Outside, lookouts gunned down a screaming neighbor and several students who had managed to escape. Fourteen young men and women were killed, and 12 more were wounded before the hit men finally fled.

Indirectly, the United States government played a role in the massacre by supplying some of the firearms used by the cartel murderers. Three of the high caliber weapons fired that night in Villas de Salvarcar were linked to a gun tracing operation run by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), according to a Mexican army document obtained exclusively by Univision News.

The other bloody attack linked to Fast and Furious guns occurred in September 2009 when members of a Mexican drug cartel murdered 18 young men at Salvarcar and El Aliviane, a rehab center in Ciudad Juarez, according to the report.

3. U.S. Gun-Walking Operations Conducted in Additional States, Expanded to Other Countries

The Univision News report also revealed that other ATF offices outside of Arizona initiated similar gunrunning programs.

An ATF field division in Florida reportedly launched “Operation Castaway,” which put weapons in the hands of criminals in Colombia, Honduras and Venezuela, according to Hugh Crumpler, the lead informant in the case, who talked to Univision News from a prison cell.

From ABC News:

“When the ATF stopped me, they told me the guns were going to cartels,” Hugh Crumpler, a Vietnam veteran turned arms trafficker, told Univision News. “The ATF knew before I knew and had been following me for a considerable length of time. They could not have followed me for two months like they said they did, and not know the guns were going somewhere, and not want for that to be happening.”

4. ‘Confirmed’: Jaime Zapata Was Killed With Weapons From U.S. Gun-Walking Operation

Here Are 5 Things You Didnt Know About Operation Fast and Furious From Univision Report

Slain ICE Special Agent Jaime Zapata. (AP Photo/ICE)

In Texas, even more weapons were allowed to cross into Mexico under ATF supervision, according to court documents and testimony of Magdalena Avila Villalobos, the sister of an Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent who exchanged gunfire with cartel hit men alongside Jaime Zapata on a rural highway in Mexico in February 2011. Zapata was killed during the confrontation.

Villalobos told Univision News the guns that killed Zapata, and almost killed her brother, were “not from Arizona and Fast and Furious” but from a “very similar operation.”

“Those weapons that have been recovered, it’s been confirmed that they were weapons used in the shootout that killed Jaime Zapata and wounded Victor Avila,” she said.

Sens. John Cornyn (R-Texas) and Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) along with Issa have been pressing the DOJ to conduct a formal investigation into Avila’s and Zapata’s case. However, just as with Fast and Furious, they haven’t gotten far.

5. Mexico’s Cartel Violence Spiked in 2009 During Fast and Furious

Operation Fast and Furious was supposedly a program run solely by ATF that allowed nearly 2,000 guns to “walk” out of the United States and into the hands of high-ranking cartel members so they could be tracked and federal agencies could dismantle the drug trafficking organizations. But that’s not how it worked out. The agency ultimately lost track of the firearms, leaving Mexico’s powerful drug cartels even better equipped to kill.

Mexico experienced a spike in cartel violence in 2009 while Fast and Furious was in full swing, as the gangs fought for control of various territories, Univision News reports.

Here Are 5 Things You Didnt Know About Operation Fast and Furious From Univision Report

Border Patrol agent Brian Terry (AP)

Fast and Furious became public after U.S. Border Patrol agent Brian Terry was killed in a gunfight with Mexican thugs in December of 2010. Congressional investigators, with Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) leading the way, pushed for investigations and hearings, only to be stonewalled by Attorney General Eric Holder, the Justice Department and the White House, who claim Republicans’ interest in Fast and Furious is only political theater.

President Barack Obama moved to shield Holder and the Justice Department by invoking executive privilege over Fast and Furious documents that the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee has been after for years.

Meanwhile, officials in Mexico are looking for answers because for them, Fast and Furious isn’t some metaphorical chess piece that they are manipulating for political gain. The fact of the matter is, they have lost hundreds of Mexican citizens as a result of the U.S.-run Fast and Furious — and they want the truth.

“Americans are not often moved by the pain of those outside [their country]…But they are moved by the pain of their own. Well, turn around and watch the massacres,” Javier Sicilia, a Mexican poet who lost his son due to cartel violence, told Univision News.

So far, it appears that the Mexican television station Univision can get more answers about Fast and Furious than our own government can.

The majority of conservatives applauded Univision’s Fast and Furious report, but as Twitchy points out, others accused the channel of doing “Barack’s bidding” by putting all the blame on ATF and the Second Amendment. To see how people reacted to the report on Twitter, click here.

In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Find out more HERE.

“The agency ultimately lost track of the firearms, leaving Mexico’s powerful drug cartels even better equipped to kill.”

This writer is being duped into believing semi-automatic AK-47′s from the US are the weapons of choice for the cartels. THEY ARE NOT. How utterly naive.

AUTOMATIC AK 47′s are the weapons preferred, and the cartels have tons of money to buy the best from any place in the world……and they do just that…..from black market arms dealers from Eastern Europe and Central and South America.

Anybody wih military experience knows full-well that no fighting organization is going to opt for weapons that have less firepower, like the ones they want us to believe inundate the cartels, bought in the US.

The cartels are wealthier than most countries, especially during these hard economic times. They want to buy weapons that maximizes their firepower. They also buy APC’s, rocket propelled grenades, land mines, claymore anti-personnel mines, hand grenades and explosives by the ton.

Fast and Furious was a scam, and the press is perpetuating that scam.

IF THE INTENT WAS TO TRACK WEAPONS< WHY DID THE BATF FAIL TO INSTALL GPS TRACKING DEVICES??????? None of the weapons sold had them. NONE. ZERO. ZILCH. NADA.

The semi-auto AK's are bought by low level criminals and those on the periphery of the drug trade, not the serious players.

We're being lied to again and again.

If not for some snitch in the ATF organization Holders plan would have worked and by now the National Guard could be going across the country hitting homes with people and metal detectors and be collecting all those dangerous guns. We would be as safe as the folks in Chicago, Phillie, Detroit, NYC and Washington DC where you go to jail if caught with a gun in your home or on your body. Onlre the police and body guards can have a gun in those towns.

Everyone has been theorizing that “Fast & Furious” has been about setting the stage for gun control and that is probably is pretty spot-on. It however would also serve a George Soros purpose of helping destabilize and create crisis in Mexico and Central America, weakening the population’s confidence in the govt, setting the stage for a future Soros take-down. It would certainly match his playbook in other countries where he has perfected his strategies.

The best answer is that the author believed that his audience is more educated on the subject than you obviously are. Operation Wide Receiver (the Bush admin program) used RFID chips to track the ‘walked’ weapons, whereas Fast and Furious used no such close tracking technology. One of the reasons Bush ended Operation Wide Receiver was because of the failure of some of the tracking devices. Under Fast and Furious, ATF agents testified they were ordered by their superiors, to stand down and not track weapons.
As to your assertion that the author believes that semi auto AK-47s are the weapon of choice to smuggle across the border. Again he believes the audience more educated than you. The weapons of choice are 9mm, .40cal, .357 and .45cal pistols and high caliber rifles like the .50 BMG or 338 Lapua. I am including an article by STRATFOR so you may be better educated next time the subject arises.

Your entire rant is so pitifully expressed it seems to contradict itself from one point to another.

”Under Fast and Furious, ATF agents testified they were ordered by their superiors, to stand down and not track weapons.”

That’s my point. Are you sure you have basic comprehension skills? Incidentally, I subscribe to both Stratfor and Debkafile.

“\STRATFOR: “In fact, the 3,480 guns positively traced to the United States equals less than 12 percent of the total arms seized in Mexico in 2008…”

My contention is that cartel arms are bought elsewhere from the black market, which obviously is the case, as Stratfor has described above. It was the point of my post above. Better read it again.

“The weapons of choice are 9mm, .40cal, .357 and .45cal pistols and high caliber rifles like the .50 BMG or 338 Lapua.”

Are you entirely out of your mind, old boy? These ARE NOT the weapons of choice for firepower, only some assassinations, and most of them are bought from the black market as well. Nowhere in the article does it state that cartels do not prefer fully automatic AK-47’s.

The number of cartel members is about 100,000.

GPS tracking devices are sophisticated enough to outperform anything the ATF used in the past. The main purpose of gun selling schemes by the BATF has always been to pretend the weapons come from the US, so they can weaken the 2nd amendment.

Yes, I agree, Starman, but my contention is that there is no way the cartels can buy enough weapons over the counter in the US to arm their soldiers, which amount to about 100,000, according to Mexican investigative journalists.

They have an unending supply of original fully auto AK-47′s from arms dealers the world over.

This whole sordid affair is an attempt to put more control on guns in the US.

    Our Government Has Failed Us…
Democrats and Republicans alike sit atop Capitol Hill and abuse their power.
They are deaf to the will of the people; they pass bills that strip away your rights and dignity.
They laugh as they use their influence to gather personal wealth, uncaring as they crush the average citizen in the process. The system is broken.
    ———
The government, on its own will certainly do nothing to correct its problems, as we have seen throughout history it only gets worse; the pork, frivolous spending, shady deals, unnecessary wars, regulation, oppression, The Patriot Act, NDAA, and on and on…

Isn’t it about time that “We The People”, regardless of religion or political affiliation, stand together once again and fight against these money grubbing liars in our government that call themselves Americans???

A great place to start would be the upcoming election (although I fear it’s too late for that) where we really need to ask ourselves if either Romney or Obama have OUR best interest in mind? I surly don’t see it in either of them, and in looking at each of them closely there is really very little difference between the two.
Voting for the lesser of the two evils will do nothing but give us more of the past, and we all know we can’t take much more of that.

The time is coming to truly exercise our 2nd Amendment rights as they were written and to rid ourselves of this tyrannous government once and for all…

I agree, the government of this country is no better than some third world banana republic country. It’s shameful what we’ve let our country become over the years. But what’s worse is the main stream media. It’s their job in a republic to inform the people of the corruption within our government so we can be informed and throw them out. The press in 2012 is nothing but the water carrying dolts for the Democratic Party. With all of the ways to get information now, they can’t hide their ideology from the masses anymore. All Americans should pause and consider when reading that “The Univision broadcast implicitly suggested that Americans have no regard for the victims of violence American policy helps fuel — that is, until one of those victims ends up being an American.”

While absorbing that, we should at the very least consider the point that some on the right and left are suggesting, that we are actually fueling the anti-American sentiments that are rearing their heads via demonstrations and even terrorist activity.

Most of us simply can’t accept that we’re the bad guys, giving that we believe that our troops overseas, along with the money we give to foreign nations, are ‘proof’ of our goodness. Recently, some TV person (I think it was John Stossel) asked a rhetorical question, ‘How we would feel if one day we woke up and looked out our window and saw Chinese troops patrolling our streets?’

It’s long past time for us to reassess our reasons for our military to be anywhere other than here at home protecting us. While the old Soviet Union was aggressively pursuing a policy of Communist hegemony, actively agitating and militarily interfering in the affairs of other nations (hmmm sounds familiar) it made sense for us to at least try to contain that threat. However, there doesn’t seem to be any such argument anymore.

Javier Sicilia is correct. People only care about stuff when they think that they are being affected personally. Sad thing about it is, every day the snare is closing in on us closer and closer. Fast and Furious is only one of the many. Look at the history of Lee Harvey Oswald, Al Qaeda beginnings with our govt., 9/11, and the recent Libyan event. All these events have the same fingerprint of our own govt. involvement. One has to really wonder if these were failed missions or if the targeted goal was achieved. Wake up people! Before it’s too late.

You know how we stop this? We stop paying our taxes. There are 40 million reasons not to anyway but in this instance refusal to pay taxes would be refusal to support the current coup taking place in Washington. They’re dismantling our constitution and bill of rights one right at a time in an attempt to boil the frog. Take the ball away and they can’t play this game. We have it bad, but I can’t imagine the world we’re creating for our kids. Elections change nothing. Speeches change nothing. Talk radio changes nothing. The chance of a violent revolt succeeding are less than zero. Keeping our paychecks away from them is the ONLY way we have left to fight and win.

I can agree but since the taxes are automatically taken from your check it would be difficult. How about a tobacco and alcohol type tea party. Imagine the loss of revenue if everyone stopped buying tobacco and alcohol. We should also limit ourselves to doing only the driving we need to do in our daily lives. Get back to once a month grocery shopping and quit running to the store multiple times a week for every little thing. Stop burning gas running your kids from one stupid soccer game to the other. Stop voting for local propositions that will increase taxes on you no matter what kind of sob story they try to give you. A tax is a tax no matter what they say. Make sure you go vote every time you have something to vote on. The small local elections are when your local governments try to get things in under the radar. They know that is when voter turnout is the lowest and it is easier for them to get things through. I never miss a voting opportunity anymore. The problem we have is people fear the government and it should be the other way around. The government should fear us after all we are their employer.

Yes we need to stop funding this illegal government in any way we can, and yes we need to be prepared for physical conflict. The government holds all the aces except one- we outnumber them.

Perhaps that report will open their eyes to the fact that Obama cares only about them as potential voters, and is willing to endanger the lives of their friends and families in Mexico for his own political purposes. I think we are missing what this administration really wanted to have happen with Fast and Furious… Think about this:
    1) Chicago verse individual for right to carry
    2) obama bans m-14 bolt action rifles from being sold in us “as weapons that criminals will use”.
    3) (thank god this was not signed) Hilary at the UN Council urged not to sign a bill requesting ALL firearms be globally registered
    4) Fast and Furious, remember what Univision was stating… It is the gun owners and purchasers that are at fault.

This administration has been attacking our Second Amendment. Now when extreme muslims move from killing other muslims; if we (non-muslims) have been restricted to no firearms… Where dies that leave us?

Every media outlet seems to be corrupt.

Fox News labors under the 7% equity ownership of Saudi Prince Bin Talal. Fox just can’t go cover political corruption issues involving CAIR, ISNA and NAIT in this country. As an example of excellent example of great journalism, take Frank Gaffney’s coverage of the MB donations to VA politicians covered in section six of his new expose. Go to muslimbrotherhoodinamerica.com to find out how McDonnell, Cuccinelli and Cantor have taken the cash. Gaffney goes into MB infiltration in military, federal bureaucracy.

You don’t “fix” a deadly disease – you kill it before it can do any more harm. I.E., chemo doesn’t “fix” cancer…it kills the corrupt cells, to protect the good ones. That is what we need – to get our tails out there, pony up the lead express, and deliver our judgement as ‘We The People’ against all the Washington criminals. There are two reasons for this 1) It is a necessary act of remonstration for us as a country, and 2) things will not get better until we do it, because right now the corrupt and greedy are unafraid of us; in fact, they consider us all to be in the “livestock” category.

This is so horrible, but what the hell is this Americans don’t care about the suffering of people outside our country? There are Americans buried on every continent who gave their lives to save others. There is not a crisis or natural disaster since our founding that we have not assisted. We are the most generous country on the face of the earth.

I hate what Holder and Obama have done, but how convenient for Mexico to blame their failures on us. Let’s talk about Americans who’ve died from their drugs in our country. And how convenient that this comes out when Hillary has vowed to sign the anti-gun treaty at the U.N. It is inconceivable that the people who perpetrated these crimes could actually still carry out their diabolical plan against the 2nd Amendment.

I agree that Americans give and sacrifice historically to this day, but honestly, most Americans do not care about Mexicans or Latin Americans (cartel wars)until it affected us with our border agent and consulate officer being shot and killed. Or the illegal immigration problem. Yes, I hate the cartels and consider them terrorists, but we’d rather keep a war raging in a part of the world filled with jihadist savages and nation building in vain. The real threat is a few feet away in Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. Financially, we throw our tax money at these nations and in the case of F&F, our government is throwing our money at a problem, they don’t really care about or want to stop. It’s a big show. I’d be very surprised if Obama wasn’t envious of the cartels’ power and wealth. He wants to be the number one gangster.

There is a calculated rot that has been brought to the soul of America by those who have warped the culture…Pretty much every ill can be traced to the AGENDA of dumbing down the populace so not only do they want big government but they will not survive without cradle to grave government care. Raising a generation so dumb they can’t govern themselves, they can’t critically think, they can’t serve on juries competently and can’t vote intelligently. Useful idiots for the state – A complicit media, captured Hollywood and forcing normalization of homosexuality and all manner of perversion, war against Judeo/Christian values, pledging allegiance to the earth rather then the flag of the US and the Republic for which it stands, environmentalism a tool of totalitarianism, a corrupt, amoral, godless generation and its not their children – for the most part they abort theirs – its co-oped indoctrinated “our” children and much more..this isn’t Mexico’s doing. I watched some of this when it aired. Although they were reporting the facts, and doing a lot more investigating than any MSM here in the US would, they slanted the story a bit by blaming American gun store owners, which by the way, were practically forced or tricked into playing along with the ATF. All in all, no English leftist media in the US has even come close to the report Univision did. This whole event is an atrocity and was meant to back stab the American people so that they would be the ones blamed for gun violence. It turns out, traitorous bastards in Government pulled a false flag on us. These morons wanted us Americans to pay for vicious actions which they planned and coordinated. Obama and Hilary, along with the MSM, were on a crusade to blame American gun owners and guns for the violence occurring in Mexico, just months before Fast and Furious was exposed. Not a peep from them afterwards. The MSM is trying to shove this under the rug. And don’t try to label this exclusively a left- right thing either. These traitorous bastards in Government don’t care what means they use to advance their agenda, they’ll infiltrate any thing and any place. They got all ends covered. Mark my words. Their end goal is to see America fall, through whatever means necessary. Their global agenda can’t take place with a free and independent united America on the scene.

@The_Cabrito_Goat Thanks. I’ll never stop seeking the truth, and sharing what I’ve learned.

I always keep these words in my mind (and I have since a very young age):

“For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly. He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.” Proverbs 2

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.” Proverbs 3

I’ll praise God, for it is he who has led me to fountains of truth, and taught me courage that I may fight for what is right.

Ok, let me start by saying this disgusts me to no ends. That our government was stupid enough to launch F&F to begin with is one thing, that they were so incompetant about it is another.

But here is the meat of my post…these drug cartels are well known to bribe anyone and everyone from the mexican goverment, to the police and even the military. You can’t tell me that they could not have bought these weapons with a snap of the fingers any day of the week from the very people in mexico sworn to stop them. They did not need us in order to get these types of weapons.

So, what was in it for whom? I believe Holder and company offered to do something for one (or more) of these cartels, in exchange for a scenario which would have undermined our 2nd amendment rights…and it blew up in their faces.

Maybe a private smuggler/gunrunner would have done this in hopes of getting a cartel to buy from him…but seriously, these cartels can get any weapon they want from Mexico in a heartbeat.

So, I ask again…what was in it and for whom?

This matter, along with Benghazi-gate, has to be brought out in full; and it will be what finally shatters Obama and his chances at reelection if one person has the guts among the media to do so. The adminsitraiton in these actions have crossed beyond treason, they are war criminals as well.
