Scarborough Doubles Down on Incorrect Romney Chant Video: Mitt Looks ‘Goofy…Without Our Help’

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough doubled down this morning on a video tape he aired on his show “Morning Joe” last week that turned out to be something other than what he said it was.

The tape in question shows Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and running mate Paul Ryan at a campaign event. The crowd is chanting what we’ve since learned to be “Romney! Romney” when Romney says “Romney-Ryan, Romney Ryan!” Subtitles on the Morning Joe version of the tape showed the crowed actually chanting “Ryan! Ryan!” The panelists mocked Romney, suggesting he was being overshadowed by Ryan.

Here’s the clip from MSNBC:

Visit NBCNews.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

A closer listen to the tape shows the crowd is indeed chanting “Romney!” and several people who attended the event confirmed as much to TheBlaze.

“So this weekend, a website started the weekend suggesting that our staff had doctored a tape to invent a story that would make Mitt Romney look goofy,” Scarborough said today. “Well, we didn’t. And to to tell you the truth, Mitt kind of looks goofy when he’s campaigning without our help.”

Scarborough went on to explain the controversy, which he addressed on Twitter this weekend. “So this is how some people spent their weekend: Running two seconds of tape … through audio filters to figure out if people are saying Romney or Ryan in 1.8 seconds.”

Here are the tweets Scarborough fired off:

Joe Scarborough defends himself on Romney chant tape, says Romney looks goofy

Note: TheBlaze didn’t run any clips through audio filters and we’ve been unable to locate any clips that were. Furthermore, we never accused MSNBC or Scarborough of “doctoring” any clips. We’ve requested comment from MSNBC and will update if they respond.

UPDATE: The National Review Online does have a video clip of the Romney rally in which the audio has been tinkered with to boost the crowd chant and minimize background noise.

Scarborough then played the clip his show aired last week, this time without the subtitles.

“I heard Ryan there,” Scarborough said. “It’s all awkward. And by the way, when [Romney] says, ‘he’s quite a guy, isn’t it?’ It just looked goofy. That’s what I was laughing at.”

Scarborough then played C-SPAN’s own video from the same event. Here it is:

“You’ll notice in both clips, Mitt looks just as goofy which caused me to react in mock horror,” Scarborough said after the clip.

He continued:

“People there heard Romney. Other people heard Ryan. Our staff heard Ryan in the clip that we get fed from NBC, unfiltered. We ran it. Politico heard ‘Ryan’ as well and they reported it that way around 5:30, after the event, which was what our staff followed. Later the New York Times wrote that the crowd was chanting ‘Romney,’ then they followed with a correction that it’s kind of hard to figure out what it was. Anyway, this began the great debate among the Cheetos brigade as to whether I, a man who has declared that he’s voting for Mitt Romney, is trying to throw the election by doctoring a tape and cracking a joke. Really guys? Your conspiracy is getting out of hand. …”

Scarborough then cited a blog post on the conservative blog Hot Air that defended him.

He finished with a final jab at his detractors: “Guys if you want to help Mitt Romney get elected, put down the Cheetos, get out of your mom’s basement and call your friends. Tell them why Mitt Romney should be president. Because these conspiracy theories aren’t helping Mitt, Paul or the Republican party. And at the end of the day, it just looks silly.”

In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Find out more HERE.

Anyone who claims not to hear “Ryan” in these two clips is being blatantly dishonest with themselves. From the various reports it seems obvious that some people were chanting “Ryan” and some people were chanting “Romney”. This camera’s mic was obvious catching the “Ryan” chants, while other people who were there were in the “Romney” chanting section. It is very normal for crowds not to be chanting the exact same thing in unison. Knowing Romney to be a decent guy (and seeing Ryan’s body language), he was probably hearing the “Romney” chants and asking people to include Ryan.

Scarborough was simply reacting based on the clip he saw, which was obviously in a “Ryan” chanting section. His reaction is well justified because it would be pathetically absurd if Romney heard “Ryan” chants and then forced the crowd to include him. This was just some bad luck for Romney.

This, by the way, is quite different from Fox News intentionally placing a mic in a “booing” Romney crowd when Ron Paul won CPAC and was overwhelmingly cheered. Fox was caught red-handed and had to issue an apology. Fox also reported the DNC telepromter text ad nauseam (“the yays have it”), but completely ignored the exact same thing happening at the RNC.

Let’s try living within the realm of reality, folks. It’s not that difficult.

Perhaps, instead of mocking Mitt Romney, Joe should spend more time explaining what happened in 2001 when his aide, Lori Klausutis was found dead in his office. Autopsy never confirmed if Lori was pregnant, and if she was, who was the father. She was found to have a head injury, and Joe immediately announces that Lori died from a heart arrhythmia, even though she was a distance runner. The inconsistencies go on and on, and *SURPRISE* Joe is divorced and gone from politics, and now he’s a “journalist.” Check these sites, then ask Joe to explain why this poor girl was treated like garbage, thrown away, and her family left mourning for her.

And you know what kids do in kiddie pools! For Joe Scarborough: Pizzz on you, and this one’s for the horse you rode in on. Many years ago, I liked Joe, but in the last 10+ years I find him to be nothing more than a liberal pawn and that blond creepy lady with him is disgusting, with her nose in the air about everything. She’s one of those biotches you want to slap, but you’d have to look at her so you don’t miss that disgusting face always wrenched in a prissy pose.

The thing that gets me the most about this whole thing is Joe Scarborough himself. He pretends to like Romney and claims he is going to vote for him, which absolutely contradicts his behavior on his show. If Romney is his candidate why does he mock him, manufacture controversies around him and make him look incompetent? He sits there and agrees with his FAR LEFT OBAMA WORSHIPPING panel, while they spin every failure of the president into a positive. Then when called out on it, Scarborough doubles down and makes himself look like even more of an a$$. Morning Joe may have just celebrated five years on the air but they are irrelavant as a credible news source and Scarborough is their clown. Please Joe, stop trying to convince the audienece you are a conservative, 53% ARE PAYING ATTENTION !

In today’s world, with the instant verification available and the millions of people who are connected to the web and know how to do research… What is wrong with these ARROGANT LIBS? How foolish are they?
The only thing any person has is their REPUTATION; their CHARACTER. Once that is gone (even once) it is impossible to bring back. A “talking-head” on TV can only get hired if he can attract an audience. Why would anyone tune in to watch LIARS? Seriously. SO then, why would someone who needs to work on air to make an income – to raise their family etc – why would they RISK their career by backing this looser in the WHITE HOUSE? Compare the careers of GLENN BECK and Joe Scarborough. Both about the same age. There is no comparison. ONE lied to please his superiors and is faux “family” of reporters…the OTHER exposed lies and was unafraid to speak the truth. ONE owns his own NETWORK now and has the love and affection/support of millions of Americans. Joe is a laughing stock. ALL because of one thing: ONE tells the TRUTH, the other lies.

@GILBERTACCT Strange, I listened to the clip, both the one from MSNBC and CSPAN and it is clear that the crowd was chanting “Romney.” Anyone who hears otherwise, that no one is chanting “Romney,” is deaf, stupid and blinded by partisanship. Is it possible that some in the crowd were chanting “Ryan?” Perhaps. It’s also possible they were chanting “Bigfoot” or “Obama” too.

BTW, the only audio filter I was using was the grey matter installed between my ears at conception. It is clear from the pattern and rhythm what was said, and no surprise, MSNBC is lying.

On the contrary I find it illuminating to see first hand the spin applied to virtually every story on PBS/MSNBC. It gives me first-person ammunition to argue with Libs whose only knowledge of conservatism, Limbaugh, O’Reilly, et al is what they’ve been fed through their own misinformation sources.

I’ve found that virtually 100% of the Libs I know get ALL their info from left slanted media and refuse categorically to listen to or watch any programming source that doesn’t toe the party line.

A friend who believes that PBS and NPR are “balanced” had never heard a word about Eliz Warren’s long running affirmative action scam in MA because NPR/PBS chose not to cover it.

The other night I watched about 10 minutes of Laurence O’Donnell with my wife in the room and she was shocked at the level of hate, dishonesty and disdain in his every word; no surprise to me but good to know how the enemy thinks.

The sheer hubris of MSNBC is incredible; time after time after time – they show the fulfilling of the old tale of ‘tell a lie long enough and loud enough, until it finally becomes accepted as the truth.”

This is what they are attempting, in addition to all the other MSM spin, fabrications, and lies being told by all of them across the board. There is so much spin being done on the media, polls, and almost all other formats its harder and harder to get the truth to people.

God help us if Obama gets another term; we will be fortunate to survive as a nation, let alone as any kind of coherent society.

Understand something clearly – recently I have a feeling Obama is preparing for a ‘zero option’ in which, given his insanity and his knowing the fall is coming, he is preparing the nation to self destruct no matter what Romney does.

No one trusts the media, or the government, and society is being torn asunder step by step; Obama keeps pushing harder and harder, and thus the ‘zero option.’

Pray people, pray hard and in sincere faith; for we are in the end game, and the final minute is fastly ticking down.

They just don’t see truth, you have to know truth to see truth. I’ve always noticed people who are dishonest assume everyone is dishonest,

I really do wonder how often Joe thinks of his assistant that was found dead in his congressional office in Florida just before he decided not to run for office again?

I used to like Joe when he had Scarborough Country. Now that MSNBC has given him a lobotomy, we just as ignorant as Chris Matthews. Sorry Joe, you are a complete moron now. When faced with indisputable facts that you were WRONG, instead of manning up and apologizing, you do an “obama” and double down on your lie.

Best one yet. Little Joe will double down on a 12. Thats very bad. You know I dont know when all this changed. I think there is way too much T.V. We here are all for doing the best we can. G.B. has opend our eys so much. If we had the time to do things we would like to do we would ring people like little Joes neck. I think hes in a fog and cant get out of it. Little chris is the same way.

It appears Scarborough has God-like syndrome.
