Actress Lindsay Lohan, 26, is known for her bad-girl behavior. From legal problems to rehab, trouble has a way of following the entertainer. This weekend, the trend continued, with reports that Lohan was involved in a physical altercation with a man at a New York City hotel after she demanded that he delete pictures of her from his cell phone.

The situation, which is bizarre on the surface, gets even more interesting, as the individual she was arguing with was allegedly Christian LaBella, a 25-year-old Congressional staffer who works for Rep. John Shimkus (R-IL).

The series of events that unfolded is somewhat convoluted. Lohan purportedly met LaBella while partying with her friends at 1Oak, a club in NYC. After spending time at the venue, the party moved to Lohan’s hotel, the W Hotel Union Square. That’s where the altercation allegedly took place, as Lohan apparently became incensed after LaBella took pictures of her with his cell phone.

It’s unclear what, exactly, was said and done, but some reports claim that the incident initially ended in LaBella’s arrest. While he was reportedly detained on Sunday morning at the hotel, police later dropped the charges waged against him (assault and harassment) and his arrest was thrown out.

However, the New York Police Department is denying that an arrest took place, as a spokesperson told Reuters that “nobody’s been arrested, there’s no assault.” Instead, she said that reports were taken from both parties and that each was given a chance to describe what unfolded.

Despite the ambiguity, Shumkus’ office was apparently eager to separate itself from the incident, as a spokesperson issued an e-mail to media in the wake of the scandal.

“While no one from Congressman Shimkus’ office has been contacted by Mr. LaBella following his arrest, he has been an employee in the Congressman’s Washington office,” the representative’s e-mail read. “Obviously, the Congressman does not condone his actions.”

TMZ reports that LaBella has a history of meeting up with celebrities — and that he may even be related to an entertainer:

Christian LaBella, the guy arrested early this morning for allegedly assaulting Lindsay Lohan, has several prior interactions with celebrities … and he’s posted all about it on his Facebook page. [...]

LaBella’s Facebook page shows a guy who certainly enjoys taking pictures with celebs — he’s got pics with the likes of Kim Kardashian and  Kris Jenner (see above) and Joe Francis. He’s also posed for pics with politicians Herman Cain and VP candidate Paul Ryan.

LaBella also says on his Facebook page that his aunt is Heather McDonald from the show “Chelsea Lately.”

Interestingly, McDonald dressed up as former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to endorse LaBella back in 2008 when he was running for president of the Alpha Kappa Psi fraternity at the University of San Diego. The actress recorded her impersonation — and her accolades directed at LaBella — on video. Watch it, below:

With police purportedly letting LaBella off, Lohan’s family members and representatives are angry. Her father, Michael, said that the Congressional staffer choked his daughter during the confrontation. And Lohan, herself, told police that LaBella threw her to the ground and tried to choke her, TMZ reports.

The actress’ publicist Steve Honig spoke out following the incident, claiming that it is both “distressing and outrageous” that LaBella isn’t being charged. ”Lindsey was assaulted and there needs to be a consequence for that,” Honig proclaimed.

So far, details are still coming in. But it looks like both sides will escape any legal ramifications over the incident.
