Skateboarder Hit by Deer in ‘Downhill Bloodspill’ Going 40 Miles Per Hour

Car-deer collisions are unfortunately common — about 1.5 million occur in the United States each year. Earlier this year, TheBlaze even brought you footage of a motorcycle-deer crash. But those are less common with the highest amount in 2008 occurring in Texas, totaling 17.

Now, an even less likely collision involving a deer occurred over the weekend. Its target: a skateboarder.

Going 40 miles per hour, the skateboarder participating in the Buffalo Bill Downhill in Golden, Colo., with 200 others might have expected a crash with a fellow boarder — but probably not a deer.

A mounted head camera has been useful yet again at capturing the incident. The footage shows a skateboarder over the weekend cruising down the 1.1 mile course, which has seven turns and four hairpin turns, when you notice a deer racing them on the left-hand side. It cuts across the skateboard traffic and rams right into one of the participants in front of the skateboarder with the head-mounted camera. He is flung off his board onto the dusty side of the road.

A local news channel in Denver reported the event is often called the “downhill bloodspill,” and that the skateboarder from Salt Lake City only got road rash from the accident.

This story has been updated to include a language warning before the clip.

That was just the first mile, the next mile was laid with gators. The third mile had lions. How many skaters do you think lasted to mile four? Extreme skate boarding is rad to the max dude.

Wow, these skateboarders are crazy going so fast and nothing can get out of their way! This is sad. I am sure the deer didn’t know what happened. I sure that his family will miss him.

Whenever anything crosses your path, always aim for the backend of the car, animal, etc… you have a much better change it passing by you and you making it into the clear, he aimed right in the same direction as the animal, it was more of an intercept than an avoid.

  I agree. I’ve had cyclists hog the road when they had a lane designated for them to use that was empty. As much as I’d like to have one for a hood ornament, I refrained. What happened to this idea of “share the road”? Seems like a lot of them think the road was built for them, not cars.

It makes you wonder about the intelligence of deer! Are they genetically related to squirrels? It seems both species have an affinity for hitting the “gas pedal” when they see oncoming traffic.

These guys were bombing a hill on their long boards and one dude nailed a deer while the boarder behind him caught it on his GoPro. No skateboards were in this video. @The Blaze, there’s a big difference between skateboarding and longboarding. Just sayin’

  I could of had my choice of four does yesterday with my Diamond Dead Eye. But… I let them all walk and enjoyed watching them for about 30 minutes. Having more does around for rut will keep the bucks coming around for a better day of hunting in the very near future. ;-)
