Nancy Pelosi Suggests Republicans May Be to Blame for Lack of Security at U.S. Consulate in Libya

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on CNN Tuesday attempted to shift the blame for the disastrous handling of the deadly terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya from the Obama administration onto Republican lawmakers, arguing they withheld $300 million in funding that could have provided much-needed security at the consulate.

Appearing on Wolf Blitzer’s CNN show, Pelosi also said calls coming from the GOP to investigate the terrorist attack in Benghazi are likely politically motivated.

“So, are you saying this is political from their perspective,” Blitzer asked the congresswoman.

“One might suspect that,” she replied.

Blitzer began the segment by reading part of the letter sent by Reps. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) and Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton today, in which the lawmakers argue that numerous requests for increased security were rejected by the Secretary of State.

Mediaite tracks some of the back-and-forth conversation that ensued:

“It’s also important to note that the Republican appropriation Congress gave the administration $300 million less than it asked for for the State Department, including funding for security,” said Pelosi.

“Are you suggesting that there was a financial aspect to what happened in Benghazi, Libya,” Blitzer asked. “That the U.S. was not enough money to protect American diplomats?”

Pelosi said that the Congress has the power of the purse, and that no one would know exactly what happened in Benghazi in the near future. “But we also have to look to ourselves in terms of that funding question,” said Pelosi.

She went on to slam Republicans for not holding a full hearing on the events on Benghazi and said that Democrats had held a hearing on Medicare without Republicans.

  let me get this straight…all indications pointed to a serious situation in Benghazi and no warnings were heeded. No calls for embassy staff to leave the city or to bolster security before 9/11 but it’s a budget shortfall that caused the Obama adminstration and the state department to ignore the situation in Benghazi then blame a badly produced internet movie for the deaths of four American diplomats? Seriously?

Mrs. Pelosi, how much did you spend of the tax payers money on alchol for your family to travel on government planes? How much is the government spending on your brother-in-laws solar company? And how much do you pay on rent on your “green” office in San Francisco ? A small portion of that money could have been spent on getting security for our embassador in Benghazi and saved 4 lives.   -He blames Bush for the state of the economy despite adding $6 Trillion to the deficit himself in under 4 years.
  -He blames Bush for unemployment despite being unable to bring it under 8%.
  -He blames Republicans for not helping him with his job bills, yet the Republican Congress has sent over 20+ jobs bills to the Democrat controlled Senate who refuse to let them be voted on.
  -He blames Republicans for passing a budget with too many spending cuts, yet the Senate hasn’t passed a budget in over 1200 days (not even Obama’s own budget)

  Hi MONK, LOL, those are funny and fitting. I’ve often described Nancy by combining her with an old Beatles tune, Nancy In The Sky With Diamonds. But, it is obvious that she has her own diamonds from all of that fish canning at less than minimum wage going on in the Samoan Islands.

I’m sure Bush was at fault somewhere along the line. These people will answer one day for the lies and deception they speak. I find it disgusting that an American was killed on thier watch and all they do is blame someone else other than who is steering (wrecking) the ship. Shame on all of them.
