Nutty Professor: Teacher Reportedly Strips, Screams There Is No God During Math Class Meltdown (With Pic)

A Michigan State University (MSU) professor was taken into protective custody Monday after suffering an apparent nervous breakdown mid-class, stripping off his clothes and running around shouting obscenities.

Gawker relates the eyewitness account of someone purportedly in the man’s class, who first posted the story on Reddit:

I was in Calc 1 at Michigan State University, and my teacher was always pretty eccentric, but today he went overboard. Half way through class he started screaming at us, swearing left and right. He then started slamming his hands on the window and pressing his face against it, still screaming. Eventually he walked out and down the hallway to the end, all while screaming. He then came back into the classroom and took off his clothes, except for his socks. You know someones crazy when they leave their socks on lmao. At this point everyone in class ran out. We were literally scared for his life. The police took about 15 minutes to get here, and during this time he continued walking around screaming.

Another student said the teacher was yelling “there is no f***ing God!” while running down the hallway, and a number of other students corroborated the claim.

The student who posted the photo of the incident sarcastically added: “My math teacher just stripped naked during class and was arrested! Go MSU!”

Another student recalled:

He was ranting about computers, Steve Jobs(pronounced Jobes), and how everything is just an act. He ran into the hallway and pressed his face up against the windows to the room and said something about him not yelling. Then he ran back in and started crying and pulled a dollar out of his wallet for some reason. At this point we all knew he had completely lost it. He started yelling profanities and something about God. He went into the hallway and continued yelling as he made his way through the building. Class got out early so I don’t know for sure what happened then.

We could all tell this was going to happen from day one. He was always acting odd and having small rants, but it was just a matter of time before this happened. He would make odd analogies about wife beating, as well as other things that didn’t standout to me as much.

The university has not released any information about the professor’s medical diagnosis, or whether he was under the influence of drugs or medication at the time of the incident.

  Too bad he wasn’t a psychology teacher that would be even more ironic than a math teacher. Before people start attacking please understand I do see the serious side of this. Yes he had a mental break down, could have harmed himself and his students. Yet he didn’t, I just wonder how many other professors are about to snap. The professor’s are never included in security checks, if he had a gun or a knife in his desk for protection(not likely since most professors are borderline fanatical liberals ergo no gun or knife, just making a point) he could have killed people. I keep expecting to hear of some highly respected liberal professor or some sort to violently snap and deaths happen. Later to find out it was some latent effect of some psychological altering drug from the 60′s-70′s acid tests. Do people not realize that some of our “brightest” college professors tok part of those test? LCD has been shown to stay in a person’s spinal column for over 30 years, only to randomly cause hallucinations at a later point. Parents meet your children’s college professors, and students please report any unusual things to the university/college.

  I suspect due to the nature of the incident, both the school and the police were reluctant to release the professor’s name and they would probably cite privacy concerns. With the proliferation of cell phones that can video record, I’m surprised it’s not on YouTube already.

We claim someone is nutty. This is incorrect. The level of communication I am talking is not voices in our heads.   People, please, have mercy. I know this professor for the last 21 years. He is an opposite of Ward Churchill, very conservative, very decent, family man. He has a long history of suffering from clinical depression. He takes his teaching responsibilities very seriously and he is a strict and demanding teacher. But students see him as a clown, who should come to the class to entertain them. Yes, he had a serious meltdown, but he is not crazy. Depression is not craziness. Actually, he was trying to get a very important across – the sad state of math education in the US. And his desperate cries about absence of God come not from his atheism, but the opposite – he is a deeply religious man, disappointed in what’s going on. This is very, very sad story. Please, don’t condemn the man without knowledge of the whole situation.

  @kikimora- Thank you for giving insight into the story. However, this confirms that in the universities, tenure is more important than performance. Some students commented that he had made odd remarks often. Why do we allow teachers who are unstable near our children? What if he had started attacking the students or worse? He needs help. Typical math professor, they mumble and laugh to themselves, speak in unknown languages and expect their students to either understand and pass, or not understand and fail. What drives them nuts is the never ending fight to convince us all that higher math is truly needed.

  Everyone is so willing to attribute this to losing ones mind or being on drugs or off meds… demonic possession is never a consideration, even with those who believe in God. What part of this doesn’t sound like “Legion” or any other possession mentioned in the New Testament? Don’t be so quick to discount this, for it is the time spoken of in Revelation… expect real possessions to take place. Fast and pray that those that are possessed will be freed from it.
