Actor Liam Neeson Gives One of the Most Cringe-Worthy (But Honest) Interviews on ESPN: ‘Oh Sh**”

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA - SEPTEMBER 17: Actor Liam Neeson attends the 'Taken 2' Seoul premiere at the Yongsan CGV on September 17, 2012 in Seoul, South Korea. The film will open on September 27, 2012 in Korea. Credit: Getty Images
Let this be said about actor Liam Neeson: at least he’s honest. And that honesty was on full display Wednesday afternoon on the live edition of ESPN’s SportsCenter.
The actor was on set to promote his new movie “Taken 2.” But because he was on a sports show, the host had to make sure to make the first part about, well, sports. Only problem? Liam Neeson (the voice of Aslan in the “Chronicles of Narnia” series) is from Ireland and isn’t really versed in American sports. But that didn’t stop the show from making him out to be a huge New York sports fan in the introduction and trying to get his opinion on the Tim Tebow controversy and all things Gangreen.
“Ok, we better start again — can we? Are we live? Oh, sh**,” Neeson said after the first question about the Jets “debacle.”
As soon as he said that, you knew it wasn’t going to end well. And it didn’t. But at least Neeson went on to admit he doesn’t watch football and doesn’t even understand the game. Unfortunately, that didn’t stop anchor Mike HIll from continuing to ask more questions.
Watch the painful exchange below:
And if you’re wondering why a movie is getting airtime during regular sports news programming the answer is: welcome to the era of everything being sponsored. It’s just something you have to get used to.

Posted on October 4, 2012 at 9:18amWhen did Liam Neeson (Qui-Gon Ginn) coach Luke Skywalker? Qui-gon died when Luke’s father was 10. Wow, I hate that I know that. But while we’re on the subject, Episode 1-3 do not count as Star Wars movies because George Lucas made the originals he hadn’t already become the emperor.

Posted on October 4, 2012 at 9:05amOnly someone on ESPN would keep asking a Irish guy questions about American football. maybe if it was the football Europeans actually play I would get it. Anyways i still want to watch this movie i liked the 1st one a lot and hope the 2nd one is just as good.

Posted on October 3, 2012 at 5:57pmAs the world burns. . .Hyperventilating, macho sport chatter was always a boring waste of time and apparently Liam Neeson thinks so too. Ok sports are fine (best played), fun to watch from time to time but for god’s sake, there are more important things in life to think and converse about! ESPN is the male equivalent of Housewives of NYC?Miami?Orange County or Entertainment Tonight. This is the dumbing down of American’s in action. ["the deliberate diminishment of the intellectual level of the content of literature, film, schooling and education, news, and other aspects of culture". ]

Have many, many times thought of not visiting this site anymore because of them. I move the window over so they’re covered up. Maybe other people can read with all these stupid videos running all the time without being distracted. Not me.

The dude has lived in the US for 25 years and he doesn’t understand American football?
I guess Liam is too busy comparing Aslan to Mohammed instead of Jesus. Just another dumb actor.

Posted on October 3, 2012 at 4:58pmThe guy was there to promote his movie so he has to be a football fan? Does this make as little sense to everyone else? He’s from Ireland & you might expect he could know something about rugby in England but maybe he just isn’t into contact sports. An interview with this hunk would be a real thrill, but I don’t believe it needs to be based on whether or not he’s an American football fan. Great actor, stick to what he does best.

I’ll tell you why: its because no one who doesn’t watch ESPN knows who the interviewer is but the rest of the world knows exactly who Liam Neeson is so when they run a story whose name will they use to get attention? ‘zactly! Like we don’t know that…..cheap tricks, irrelevant story…. underwhelmed….
