As bears are preparing for hibernation, the public is seeing them more as they might move closer to homesteads foraging for food. One bear entering a woman’s backyard though crossed the line when it stepped close to the house.

A video posted by YouTube user Nayana Grillo shows footage of a large black bear wandering into well-groomed backyard. The man filming the scene seems to be fine with the animal meandering around the yard’s flower beds until it makes its way up the home’s back porch stairs. You can hear the man’s voice calling to a woman named Nishanto saying “the bear is here,” suggesting that they’d seen this visitor before. Nishanto was not happy to welcome him back.

Coming out the back door, you see the woman point and shout at the bear, telling it to “get down right now!” “No, no,” she says forcefully.

Thoroughly scolded, the bear begins to make its way shamefully back down the steps from the house. So frightened, it even runs away from the yard.

The video has gone viral with more than 1.5 million hits after five days being on the site. Commenters have some interesting thoughts on the clip as well. Some call her gutsy, others say it’s the “mean mom voice” that effectively scares off the bear, while another says that women can “even nag a bear into leaving.”

      My Mother used to scar the Bears away from her veggie garden in Hackensack, MN by yelling at them pretty much like that. However, she always took the 12 Ga. shotgun with her just in case. She said the Bear would run and climb a tree and sort of make crying sounds until she went back into the house. Then it would climb back down and leave the area. If I remember right, Black Bear will usually run away. Brown Bear are different and will attack. Not really sure about that though. I suppose if you come up on them and startle them you are in trouble no matter what.

      The tenth time the bear spends the rest of the night burping burps that taste like you. LOL. While I admire this woman’s figurative brass balls, I wouldn’t suggest that people try the same thing if and when they find themselves staring down a bear.

      The majority of people think that it is cut when a bear comes on their property, BUT, The bible prophicies that wild beasts will take our children away. It won’t be cute then. I agree if a bear were to come here I would have a nice bearskin rug. It’s comming right for me!!!!

      Rex Pennington, famed outdoorsman, once fought and killed 10 grizzly bears with his bare hands. Unfortunately, he was fighting 11 of them at the time.

      She used a teacher voice, and, if the bear could have seen her well, the “mean teacher ” look may have worked to. I use those I have perfected even now when I ‘m retired when the need arises. They even work on adults.

    I think a string of fire crackers skillfully lit and thrown to the bear would have been a more effective, low cost and lower risk bear repellant.

    I wish I had a video camera back in the 70′s for all the Black Bear encounters I’ve had in Shenandoah National Park. Didn’t have YouTube either.

    Some were extremely scary…. especially when Cubs were present. : < O

    And we didn't have a house to run back into like Nishanto did.

      Hi Eastinfection,

      I know many “Monk” stories relating to just about every subject. If I was going to go “Monk” on this story I might have said:

      Disciples of Lord Rama were taught that, when in trouble, call out to Lord Rama 3 times and he will appear to save you.

      One day a disciple was walking down a path and some bandits jumped out of the woods to rob him so he cried out 3 times for Lord Rama. Lord Rama was sitting with his Wife in Total Bliss and in an instant He disappeared. In another instant He reappeared. His Wife asked, “Husband, where did you go and why did you come back?” Lord Rama replied, “One of my disciples cried out for help but, by the time I got there he had already picked up a rock.”

      In the case of the Black Bear, the disciple was the man in the bushes and instead of crying out for Lord Rama he cried out for “Nishanto”. LOL

    The way that bear had its nose up sniffing the air and smelling, leads me to believe that the
    woman had something cooking on the stove. This bear looks like a repeat offender and
    something tells me this woman contributed to this bears behavior and she now regrets her poor choice to ‘feed the bear’ in the past.

    Yes I’m doing a lot of speculating ,but I bet I’m right none the less.
