Mitt Romney came across comfortable and jovial during the first part of Wednesday’s presidential debate, and at no time was the more clear than when he lightheartedly jabbed debate moderation Jim Lehrer.
The former governor was talking about how he plans to reduce the deficit, and one of those ways is to cut non-essential programs — and that includes subsidies to places such as PBS, which happens to employ Lehrer. A smiling, yet determined, Romney told the moderator that while he “likes” both Lehrer and Big Bird, propping them up would end in a Romney administration.

Oct. 4, 2012 at 2:25pmCheck out the internet reaction to the debate and you’ll see a widespread ‘glass half empty’ notion about Lehrer NOT bringing up the climate change issue. More folks supporting the idea of man-caused climate change need to figure out LEhrer’s so-called “failure” was probably something that allows the issue to survive for at least one more day.
Had Lehrer brought up the issue, it may very well have opened the door for Romney to ask why Lehrer’s NewsHour, a program otherwise noted for its guests representing two sides of any given issue, has apparently excluded skeptic climate scientists from participating in rebuttal discussions with relatively frequent IPCC scientist guests for over 15 YEARS.
And it may have also opened the door for Romney to talk about John Holdren, a man who formerly advised the governor on climate change and who is now Obama’s science czar…… but Holdren has problems that Obama likely wishes to keep OUT of the public eye.
I described both problems on Sept 13th, please see: “Gore’s Climate Reality Project begs Debate Moderator Jim Lehrer: Ask Romney and Obama about Climate Change” http://junkscience.com/2012/09/13/gores-climate-reality-project-begs-debate-moderator-jim-lehrer-ask-romney-and-obama-about-climate-change/

Oct. 4, 2012 at 2:18pmWe have got to stop gov’t from doling out goodies to favored interests. That–and the massive power of the political parties & Big Money in elections–has been the ruination of the Republic. Foundations & donations from the private sector would work just fine.

Oct. 4, 2012 at 12:17pmTruly, you’ve gotta’ respect Romney’s chutzpah & clarity.
He told PBS what America has been saying for years.
If the people want to support your network,
they’ll do it out of their OWN pockets-
don’t expect a Leader to ruffle & rifle though their pockets for you.
Get off your big, fat, lazy, liberal, high-paid, PBS butts
and pay for your OWN content through your own creative marketing.
Quit mugging the public, dressed up as Big Bird & Elmo.
PBS makes millions off the rights of all
of Henson’s adorable coochie-coo critters.
Here’s a novel idea-
quit paying your big suits & high heels outrageous salaries
and start funding your own folly !
“Sesame Street” is NO longer “Easy Street” !

If you dont think so, watch anything that PBS airs about anyithng Christian then watch them talk about anyone in the Middle East.. It so ant-Christian that I have to make sure when it hits noon time, to shut it off for the little ones just to make sure they aren’t bombarded with some lesbian rolling her eyes over the positive influences on American culture talking as if its a mockery.
Yes, stop the funding. And put some dang white kids on Seasame Street again! It’s not San-samê Street!

Oct. 4, 2012 at 7:27amHe didn’t bully him. Romney just telling facts. PBS is a joke and I hate the fact that my tax money goes to this station. Jim just happens to work there. As old as Jim is he would just retire anyway. I am sure he would get a pension that we will pay for. He should have said he would ACLU funding too.

Oct. 3, 2012 at 11:02pmCome to think of it Jim Lehrer may be Big Bird.
Full of feathers, He favored BO but Romney kept
hitting everything out of the park & Lehrer’s assist to BO
just couldn’t get him off of his stuck position. BO kept looking
at Lehrer to END THIS thrashing! Then demanded more time
on his responses and got extensions and still lost!

Oct. 3, 2012 at 10:33pmListen if you look at the Bell Curve for tax collection the most stable continuous rate comes from the largest part of the Curve…the middle class. The worst part is that the people who rise every day and work to support those who choose NOT to participate in the same behavior become the donkeys and horses for the rest of the nation. I don’t think because I choose a dream that is bigger or more labor intensive than some else’s I OWE the less motivated some compensation. That is NOT what FREEDOM means. FREEDOM means that when you have a desire to do a certain thing rise to a certain level, there are NO hurdles. The hurdles are NOT your race or your income, but they are your DRIVE and desire. I don’t begrudged anyone the opportunity to succeed, BUT I will most definitely deny them based on desire. Is it right to GIVE someone something even if they have no desire to achieve it? Is it right to take from the person that gives it up willingly to someone who has no desire in the end to share it back?
I ask this…..who will REALLY be the party of GIVE BACK? The democrats are the party of “if you have it, give it up” and we will lie to you until we need more for you. If you are on the other side (I’m not for the Republican line) but it means helping those who WANT to have better and to make those who have no desire to make better for themselves on their own sweat, to stay in the state they choose.

Oct. 4, 2012 at 2:33pmIt’s a character issue. By nature (and upbringing), he must feel his worth comes from battling something….anything…creating boogeymen…’rising up angry.’ Those like him rail against the very society that fosters the success & entitlement they receive. They seem to succeed despite all the horrors they portray about our society. He’s a scary, scary man to me.
