‘What Was Romney Doing? He Was Winning!’: Angry Chris Matthews Unloads on Obama Post-Debate

If there was any doubt who the liberals thought won Wednesday night’s debate, Chris Matthews removed all of it with his post-debate blow-by-blow. The MSNBC host unloaded on the president for not being bold during the debate and engaging Mitt Romney. In fact, at one point he yelled passionately: “What was Romney doing? He was winning!”

RealClearPolitics has the transcript [emphasis added]:

“Tonight wasn’t an MSNBC debate tonight, was it?” Chris Matthews said after the first Obama-Romney presidential debate concluded on Wednesday night.

“I don’t know what he was doing out there. He had his head down, he was enduring the debate rather than fighting it. Romney, on the other hand, came in with a campaign. He had a plan, he was going to dominate the time, he was going to be aggressive, he was going to push the moderator around, which he did effectively, he was going to relish the evening, enjoying it,” Matthews said.

“Here’s my question for Obama: I know he likes saying he doesn’t watch cable television but maybe he should start. Maybe he should start. I don’t know how he let Romney get away with the crap he throughout tonight about Social Security,” Matthews complained.

Matthews then demanded that President Obama start watching cable news, specifically his program.

“Where was Obama tonight? He should watch — well, not just Hardball, Rachel, he should watch you, he should watch the Reverend Al [Sharpton], he should watch Lawrence. He would learn something about this debate. There’s a hot debate going on in this country. You know where it’s been held? Here on this network is where we’re having the debate,” Matthews said.

“We have our knives out,” Matthews said, admitting his network is trying their best to defend Obama and his policies. “We go after the people and the facts. What was he doing tonight? He went in their disarmed.”

“He was like, ‘Oh an hour and half? I think I can get through this thing. And I don’t even look at this guy.’ Whereas Romney — I love the split-screen — staring at Obama, addressing him like prey. He did it just right. ‘I’m coming at an incumbent. I got to beat him. You’ve got to beat the champ and I’m going to beat him tonight. And I don’t care what this guy, the moderator, whatever he thinks he is because I’m going to ignore him,” Matthews said.

“What was Romney doing?” Matthews asked. “He was winning.”

“If he does five more of these nights, forget it,” Matthews added. “Obama should watch MSNBC, my last point. He will learn something every night on this show and all these shows. This stuff we’re watching, it’s like first grade for most of us. We know all this stuff.”

Fellow hosts Ed Schultz and Rachel Maddow shared their thoughts, too. And they were quite dejected. You can see their comments here. How did others in the media react? See our complete roundup here.

What I find most amusing of all – if these leftist/progressive so-called- journalists had actually bothered to VET this president or question ONE IOTA of his policies, then maybe he would have been better prepared. Nobody has ever challenged Obama since he took office. Other than Beck and a few on Fox News. Now Mr. Spoiled failed and the Lamestream media is left to deal with the monster they created. I’m loving this moment.

It doesnt’ get more childish and insipid than you Orwellianly named Moderationisbest.

The reason Obama didn’t fare well at the debate is partly because he’s been so protected by the media that he’s never had to account for himself and his smears directly. His surrogates sully themselves on that score while Obama pretends to be presidential and professorial. Compound this media imposed cocoon around Obama with the apparent fact that Obama is a know-nothing, do-nothing political hack of the first order who all of a sudden is facing a man who knows his stuff very VERY well then you’ve got last nights reaction by the complicit media. They bought their own hype that Obama is the smartest, bestest, most amazing president ever…and he disappointed them by showing who he really is…a construct of his handlers, a fabricated man, a slow thinker, a do-nothing, a know-nothing, poorly infomed, poorly educated, poorly equipped empty chair.

No the media didnt’ all of a sudden abandon him Orwellianly named Moderationisbest…they were disappointed in their annointed one for not living up to the hype they perpetuated about him. You do understand the difference between anger and frustration at Obama and actual credible questioning of him don’t you champ?

The funniest part about this thourough thrashing that Obama was handed is that it”s people like Cris Mathews that made it so easy. The lame stream media has done nothing but toss softball and pre-approved questions at this amature for 4 years. For 4 years he was not held accountable for ANYTHING. Now, in front of 50 million Americans on national television and countless more Millions throughout the world via the internet, he was called to task by a true leader and was found to be of absolutely no substance. If Obama wins re-election after this, the Americal populace will be the laughing stock of the world, because let’s face it, the WORLD was watching

I’ll bet if you could really find out how Obama feels about Chris Matthews, you would find that Obama hates Chris, nothing in Obamas past would point to any kind of love for Chris’s type, Obama’s found video proves this, that’s why Obama didn’t bring up the 47% because Mitt could throw it right back in Obama’s face about his attitude about the people in the suburbs.

Anyway, Bravo Mitt, well done man, thanks for putting the Marxist in his place in front of 50 million people, God Bless

Here’s my assessment: Obama keeps saying Romney did not provide enough details for his “plan”. Romney is laying out his principles and saying he will work with congress to flesh out the details; as he did in Mass. Additionally, Romney wants to push more of what the Feds are doing to the State level; while Obama seems to want to ram policy down our throats without working with Congress (Obamacare); and micromanage everything. Great Chief Executives do not micromanage. If you micromanage; you cannot do anything “well”.

Romney understand what a Republic is (basis of our Constitution); while Obama understands Socialism. Socialism is a step away from a Republic as you march towards communism. And Communism is the arena of dictators.

If you look at it from a “corporate” viewpoint, Great Chief Executives lay out a vision. Then they convey that “vision” to several Directors of the various functions within the corporation (Finance, Sales, Marketing, IT, etc), who report to the Chief Executive. Directors then help shape that vision with a little more detail to several Managers within that function (let’s say if its a Director of IT, they would work with Managers that are over Infrastructure, Databases, Applications, Testing, etc. etc.)that work out the details that ultimately support the overall “vision” of the Chief Executive.

Obama is not a Chief Executive….he’s not even a Director….I am not even sure he’s a Manager. Usually, you have to work in the trenches before you can start understanding Management. Then once you master Management; you can move up to Director. Good Directors can eventually become Chief Executives…

Bottom line, you usually need to work your way up….before you take the top spot.

Cheer up, Chris. Maybe in the next debate they’ll ask questions like “What superpower would you most want to have?” or “What is your favorite color?” Obama’s really going to shine then!

Dud! Tonight? How about EVERY NIGHT! I am so tired of hearing that empty suit read his mish-mash from the Teleprompter! I hope the Saudi’s realize how much money they wasted on funding his Harvard tuition and propping him up in office! We need a certification, such as: “I certify on my sacred honor that neither I, nor my campaign, has accepted any foreign money or support in my running for a United States public office and that all donations are of domestic origin, freely solicited and freely donated, so help me God!” If it turns out not to be true, the election is void and if the evidence proves the miscreant knew about it–prison time!
