Guess What: New Tech Could Mean TSA Isn’t Done With You Until You Get on the Plane

You may think you’re off the hook for airport security after taking off your belt and shoes, sending your possessions through an X-ray machine and walking through either a metal detector or X-ray machine yourself, but that won’t be the case if this new technology has anything to say about it.

Researchers have developed a boarding gate with embedded sensors that would be the last line of defense directly before passengers get on a plane.

As the announcement of the prototype states:

[...] flight safety would be significantly increased if it were possible to inspect passengers for explosives at the boarding gate, the last point of inspection before boarding the flight; however, as several hundreds of passengers need to pass through the gate at once, the time taken by conventional metal detectors and X-ray inspections was an issue.

Prototype Boarding Gate With Explosive Sensors Could Provide Final Check of Passengers

(Image: Hitachi)

The prototype of the explosives-sniffing boarding gate developed by the Japanese company Hitachi, Nippon Signal and the University of Yamanashi would be sensitive enough to allow passengers to pass through at a relatively fast pace. The company’s announcement states that the gate has technology that collects minute particles on the boarding pass (or mobile device) being scanned and within seconds can indicate explosive compounds. It is fast enough to inspect 1,200 people per hour.

“The technology is expected to contribute to the prevention and containment of carry-on explosives as it inspects immediately prior to boarding without disrupting the flow of passengers, and provides increased security without affecting convenience,” the release states.

Pilot tests of the prototype at public facilities  are expected within the next fiscal year.

Read more specifics about the technology here.

This is an intell indicator that the inner security perimeter for the airport workers is not good. What checks do they go through? Has their union prevented this?

As passengers we go through the outer security check point to enter the safe secure area. If they have to keep checking us then there is a fault in the system. The fault is the airport workers are not put through the same checks as us.

The TSA is worried that some worker is bad and will link up a passenger who is bad an pass on a weapon or something.

Lets start profiling passengers and workers.

    @ Pattyhenry

BOTH the republicans and democrats voted for the TSA under Bush; and neither party has done anything since to reign in the overreach and unconstitutional actions of the TSA or the growing surveillance state. In fact, the republicans with their majority over the past few years have continued to vote for the increase in surveillance of the American public.

Hate to tell you but Romney has no desire to get rid of the TSA or reign in the surveillance state. Heck the TSA was at the RNC conducting security screening.

Face it, the republicans and democrats are hell bent on increasing the security state because the sheeple want the government to keep them safe. Which is why 99% of the people who fly have no problem going through the naked body scanners without complaining. When I have to fly I opt out and I fully express to them my reasons why. I am all too happy to hold up the line and disrupt the process.

Quite frankly the terrorists have won. They have turned our society into a mass of people who willingly abdicate all responsibility for their personal safety to federal, state and local government agencies. Since 9/11 people willingly accept and even ask for street cameras, cameras on police cars that read license plates, naked body scanners, pat downs and soon to come a sky full of drones.

We are now living in 1984 where the sheeple live under the watchful eye of Big Brother.

I opt out too and have told them why too. I mention it is my only means of protesting their scanning machine. Also, I do not trust them to be safe. If EVERYONE opted out instead of going through the scanners what do you think they would do?? They would HAVE to remove them.

TSA’s main problem is the dumbest terrorist is smarter than all TSA brains put together. The TSA’s next plan is to detect the undetectable.. think about it.

It would be as easy as cathing liquid explosives into one’s bladder (if you could call that “easy”) and then “*******” it out in a cup in the bathroom.

TSA should really start using suction catheters on every passenger, as well as a complete colon cleanse, and maybe pull a few teeth to make sure

Forget putting these at the boarding gates – replace existing security with them and get excessive TSA government agents off of the tax payroll.

One or two agents, a couple of these and a couple of metal detectors – speed up the whole security thing – and let passengers keep their shoes on and prying eyes out of the body scans.

    I strongly disagree.
The TSA isn’t done when you physically get on the plane.
That’s when they steal your personal belongings and either put them on EBay or smuggle them home.
In government, theft comes before, during and after…

The “GUESS WHAT” is that the manufacturer of this contraption is going to get rich off government (our tax dollars at work). TSA is one more prime example of an incompetent, inept and expensive government bureaucracy. To date – they haven’t stopped any terrorist act or caught any criminals. But the useless TSA does cost us lots of tax dollars to maintain…and they hire our country’s brightest individuals who couldn’t find a job anywhere else.

If some prankster threw lawn fertilizer around the sidewalks at the entrance of the airport, nitrate detectors would give false alarms to everyone. Terrorists already know this if I could think it up.

Although governments in U.S.A., especially Obama’s administration, have overreached in this matter, I don’t think politicians in America are to blame for this. I know people that travel all over the world and they have to go through the non-sense checkpoints. The ones to blame are the Muslim extremists. It is for them that we have to almost strip ourselves to get in an airplane.

      1. BOTH PARTIES/ADMINISTRATIONS EQUALLY EXPLOIT THESE UNCONSTITUTIONAL measures.

      2. Politicians ARE TO BLAME!!!!!!!! THEY introduced, voted for and signed the ILLEGAL “Patriot” Act, TSA, SOPA/PIPA/CISPA, etc.

      3. I DON’T GIVE A DAMN who you “know” or travel with. THIS IS AMERICA!!!!!!! WE HAVE CONSTITUTIONAL LAW THAT PRESERVES LIBERTY!

      4. The ones to blame ARE NOT “Muslim extremists!” THE ONES TO BLAME are our corrupt leaders who “blame” extremists TO ENACT THEIR UNCONSTITUTIONAL LEGISLATION THAT IS AIMED AT IT’S OWN CITIZENS!!!!!!!!!!!! And simultaneously LEAVING OUR BORDERS WIDE OPEN AND WATCHING, AS AMERICANS DROP LIKE FLIES AT THE HANDS VIOLENT, THIRD-WORLD ILLEGAL ALIENS.

We now have a new machine that detects if you were ever mad at the government, ever handled a gun or got mad at your 5th grade teacher. This way you can get immediate additional screening by a TSA professional who, when confiscating a loaded weapon last month, accidentally shot through a wall in the airport.

These people can’t find there ass with both hands. What are we doing?

I got screened 10 times in the last 2 months and never once was convinced that the people screening me had half a deck upstairs…disband the TSA now. Balance the @#$# budget…to hell with the terrorists. When someone looks guilty, screen them and stop fondling my wife…that’s my job.
