Iranian Official Says Country Needs only ’24 Hours and an Excuse’ to Destroy Israel
Words from Tehran about wiping Israel off the map have been launched with abandon in recent weeks. Here’s another one for the lexicon. This time from Hojjat al-Eslam Ali Shirazi, representative for Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to the Qods Force, who not only reiterated the bombastic threat but also added his own twist: that Iran can do the job in just 24 hours.
Specifically, he said all Iran needs is “24 hours and an excuse” to finish off the Jewish state. The Jerusalem Post reports on the interview:
In his first public interview in a year, reported in the Persian-language Jahan News, which is close to the regime, Shirazi said if Israel attacked Iran, the Islamic Republic would be able to turn the conflict into a war of attrition that would lead to Israel’s destruction.
“If such a war does happen, it would not be a long war, and it would benefit the entire Islamic umma [the global community of Muslims]. We have expertise in fighting wars of attrition and Israel cannot fight a war of attrition,” Shirazi said, referring to Iran’s eight-year war of attrition against Iraq.
Iran’s Qods Force is a unit of the Revolutionary Guard that aims to export the Islamic Revolution worldwide, and is reported to be active in the Middle East, Asia and South America. Last year the U.S. accused its operatives of working on a plot to assassinate the Saudi ambassador in Washington.
The Post reports that Khamenei tapped Shirazi last year as his personal envoy to the Qods Force:
In his interview, Shirazi said that Israel was “close to annihilation” and wanted to attack Iran as an act of desperation.
“Are our enemies intelligent, wise or foolish? They are foolish. It’s also possible that they will do this foolish thing [and attack Iran]. Why do we sometimes say this is the strongest probability? Because today the Israelis are telling us that ‘we are not the Israel of yesterday, we are getting weaker day by day and the Islamic Republic is getting stronger day by day,’” he added.
“Well, when Israel finds itself in danger of extinction, it flails around, and so it’s easy for it to do foolish things and will start a war just to sting Iran.”
Shirazi is in good company. Other statements in just the past week from Iranian leaders in the same spirit as Shirazi’s include: President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s assertion that Israel has no historical roots in the Middle East and will be “eliminated,” Revolutionary Guard Gen. Mohammad Ali Jafari saying a conflict between Iran and Israel will destroy the Jewish state – “the end of the story for them,” and Brigadier General Hossein Salami of the Revolutionary Guard saying a war will provide “a historical opportunity for the Islamic Revolution to wipe them [Israel] off the world’s geographical history.”
All this means we’re unlikely to hear such statements cease anytime soon.

Anyway, I really don’t care about saber rattling out of a country the US could militarily destroy on a Columbus day weekend. Such taunts are designed to remind Israel that without the US, they are very alone in the region.

Posted on October 4, 2012 at 12:17pmAhhh….Persia’s insane rhetoric brings back fond memories of the time Colonel Gadaffi brazenly told Ronald Reagan, “You will not cross my line of death ! ” Bwah..hahahaha ! Shortly after, Reagan had bombs dropping in Gadaffi’s back yard, narrowly missing the little tyrant. My point is, you can talk a lot of smack, but when the rubber hits the road, Iran knows full well they are 15 minutes away from total annihilation courtesy a Trident sub missile launch. Maybe that is what they want. Ahmadinejad has said in the past he knows he may have to sacrifice his country to bring about world war and the Twelfth Imam.

Israel, I believe, will go Biblical on them. Not eye for an eye, but rather scorched earth. Iran is a perfect example of the evil that is done in the name of one religion or the other. Maniacs like the current Iranian leadership will be responsible for the death and destruction that will be visited on their people.

Posted on October 4, 2012 at 11:10amMy personal opinion is this.. I don’t want America involved in another war in the M.E. that will (in the end) net us nothing but a loss…..
If Iran attacks Israel, we should help Israel… If Israel attacks Iran, I think they should be left to do it alone (Israel is NOT defenseless, and really doesn’t need our help with Iran unless every other M.E. country decides to team up against them…)
We need to keep our people safe first, and help our allies only if need be… Israel is a “big-boy” nation, and can handle itself…. We should only help them if they NEED our help… We have spent enough money on sending our sons and daughters to die for nothing….

Posted on October 4, 2012 at 12:19pmNormally I would agree with you however Iran is an exception. If I were capable I’d fight for Israel myself. Iran isn’t over there making teapots and crumpets and planning to talk things over tea with the world. They’re stalling. For what? That’s the question. They’re getting brazen so whatever they’re plotting in coming soon but they’re plotting something big in their minds. I’m not going to openly say what I think is going to unravel but when it comes to Iran I think its best put that they should be completely flattened. If left to their own devices they’re going to a much larger issue

Posted on October 4, 2012 at 12:25pmRespectfully, that will not do it. Ahmadinejad is an extreme Islamic fanatic, who is totally dedicated to bringing about the return of the Twelfth Imam (Islam’s messiah). He has been very open about this fact. He has no compunction with the possibility he may have to sacrifice and/or martyr his entire country to make this prophesied event occur. So, the threat of disastrous retaliation being unleashed on Iran is NOT a deterrent in this situation. Israel is fully aware of this reality. That is why they CAN NOT and will not allow Iran to possess nukes.

Maybe we should dip all our weapons and ammo in pig blood, so they would be “defiled” if hit. They might not be so eager to die in battle then because they wouldn’t get their 72 virgins.

Posted on October 4, 2012 at 9:09amIran. Indeed you will make the foolish mistake of attacking Israel. There your armies will meet the God of Israel. The same God that created the earth and all living creatures. You can read about others who have tried to do the same from the Old Testament Writings. Kiss your family members, “Goodbye” for most won’t return to the land of Persia or Egypt or wherever your march from against the people that God has chosen to carry his Name and reveal Himself to the world. Your greatest fear should not be Israel’s weapons, but their cry to the Living God.

Posted on October 4, 2012 at 8:06amIran is a sitting duck. They don’t even stand a chance. When coalition forces finally hit them, their whole world will come crashing down. Not only will their nuclear program be nonexistent, but also, their defenses, communications, infrastructure, air force, navy, launch sites, mechanized units, etc…. Their once loyal military will surrender by the tens of thousands and the remaining soldiers will only be able to operate as mere guerrilla forces. Tehran will fall in a matter of weeks, just in time to hunt down their leaders and scientists! And of course hundreds of thousands of civilians will be killed, displaced or injured.
Sure, Iran will strike Israel and other targets with missile attacks, but the result will be minimum civilian casualties and millions in property damage. The psychological effects will do more harm than the actual strikes!
The IDF will suffer 100 or so casualties fighting guerrillas as they hunt down launch sites in neighboring territories (maybe some tanks and an attack helicopter or two) but thats about it.
Coalition forces will suffer higher casualties but in all reality it will be under 1000. Injuries will be much higher though. At the end of the day, German casualties taking Warsaw were a thousand times more than the losses of coalition forces taking Tehran!
As far as occupation is concerned and how long, well thats another subject. And besides, in this Orwellian society, debt is a good thing! lol

Posted on October 5, 2012 at 5:47amAnother invitation to major warfare.
And those poor atheists/evolutionists declare God’s Word isn’t true? True, that there have always been wars and poor people, but given the events of the recent past (Yom Kippur, 6-Day War, and the others), and other more recent, current and about to happen conflicts throughout the middle-east region (and across the globe) are, to my understanding of the scriptures, only further confirmation of the truth of Christ the Savior – and combined with all the talk of global economic collapse, earthquakes, volcanoes, disease, pestilence, floods, occultism, wars and rumours of wars, ‘UFO/aliens’ to the rescue, “don’t offend jihadists”, political correctness and the removal of free speech, and so on. Talk about better than Nostrodamus!
I’ll be praying for the people of Australia, and Israel, and the USA. And the poor innocents in the middle-east and elsewhere.
It has annoyed me greatly, a lot of the events this generation has been eye-witness to and the apathy that many people have in relation to world events, Then I remember to trust in the Lord! (not much I can do about it) :-)
Perilous times.
Maranatha.

I’m sure that you guys have had a chance to watch the one-sided debate by now. How does it feel knowing that America will have a real leader at the helm? The US President who would not come to the aid of the rebellion of the Iranian middle class in the streets of Tehran in the summer of 2009 will be dragging his **** back to Chicago. Oh, maybe you can convince Michelle to take one of her big-spending vacations in Tehran before January 2013? I hear that your rial hit 35,500 to the dollar yesterday. Michelle will need a tour guide. There’s always a street sweepers’ job down in Caracas. Hugo will give you a chance to be a part of a dynamic, Marxist/Socialist empire that will soon be going down in flames.
I just wonder if a President Mitt Romney would have sent aid to the Iranian middle class when they were being beaten, stabbed, shot and burned in the streets of Tehran in the summer of 2009? Would a President Mitt Romney have rejected the Keystone Pipeline, or sold guns to the Mexican drug cartels, or bowed to the Saudi King or rammed-through a bogus health care plan that will be repealed?
It must suck to be you, Just Angry!

Posted on October 4, 2012 at 9:36amI think Romney’s energy policy is much better than Obama’s. I’ve never said otherwise. I don’t know what he would have done in Tehran in 2009. I doubt seriously that he would have sent drug cartels weapons, but as governor of MA he signed the toughest gun restrictions into law. I doubt seriously anything will change with the ACA. As for bowing to a Saudi King… You do that every time you turn on Fox News. This is another propaganda piece from Ms. Schwartz where the headline overshadows the “if they attack us”. I believe a war with Iran will escalate, and that’s nothing to cheer about because war sucks. As for Romney as commander in chief… I’m not satisfied with the excuse for his deferments during Vietnam. I know I was ashamed to serve under Slick Willy’s draft dodging ass. So again… Romney’s energy and regulatory policies are much better than Obama’s. Both Romney and Obama’s foreign policy sucks, but Romney’s is worse. My biggest problem with both men is never discussed by anyone on the media, which is the assault on our rights. While Romney wasn’t responsible for it, he said he supports it in earlier debates. When it comes to the real problems this country faces (politicians only paying lip service to the Constitution, endless wars and the Federal Reserve) there’s not much difference between the two candidates at all. If you want to say Romney is the lesser of two evils, I can respect that, but nothing substantial will change.
