After Wednesday night’s presidential debate, the frustration over at MSNBC was at nearly never-before-seen highs. Ed Schultz, Rachel Maddow, and Chris Matthews all turned on Obama after he offered a poor performance (their words), and so when former NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani appeared on the show, the network’s election panel seemed ready to take out that frustration on a token conservative.
But Giuliani wasn’t going to be a punching bag, and he made that quite clear.
For example, Maddow early on tried to accuse Romney of changing his tax plan and told Giuliani that it was simple math and “not calculus” that supported her position, the mayor threw up his arms and said, “What you’re doing is superimposing the Obama interpretation of his plan on his [Romney's] plan.”
Fellow panelist Chris Hayes then tried to roll out the old mantra that Romney is all about trying to cut taxes for the rich because he wants to extend the Bush tax cuts, But Giuliani shot that down, too.
“If you extend the Bush tax cuts, you don’t cut taxes, you keep taxes where they are! If you don’t extend the Bush tax cuts, you raise taxes,” he said, before explaining that if he pays a higher rate next year that is, in fact, raising taxes.
“Right, because you make a lot of money!” a fired-up Hayes said while including some hand gestures.
“Stop the ad personam silliness,” a visibly frustrated and flummoxed Giuliani shot back. “The reality is it’s true for everyone.” He then scolded Hayes for “yelling and screaming” at him and not allowing him to finish.

Oct. 4, 2012 at 9:14amexample of “trickle down”
my family owns real estate, rental properties….
My father who was a successful person for many years “retired” at 55 and started this other “business” in real estate, the more properties we get, the more money we are able to make, the more people we hire.
We now have 2 full time “handy men” that were unemployed.
This is my fathers full time job, my mother works kind of part time with it…… (but thats a stretch, although she does own her own business that she runs full time)
I work part time with it (and yes I do have my own full time job)
and now we have 2 full time employees
Because of this small business my father is running 3 people have full time jobs and 2 people part time. If they have lower taxes and are able to grow (get more properties) then they would have to hire a 3rd full time employee
however what Obama wants to do is raise taxes on my father, at which point, he would not be able to buy more properties, not be able to hire more employees, and might even have to let one of them go.
benefits of this small business, it employees people! it improves neighborhoods by taking slightly rundown properties and fixing them, this increases that homes value, and that of the houses next to it.
Raise taxes on him like Obama wants, and he will fire an employee, not grow, and not improve the neighborhoods

Sort of like everyone’s built obama up to be the meanest best debater in the world, til someone who actually knew what he was doing was the opponent. Oct. 4, 2012 at 8:54amThese moronic libs don’t get it. Rachele Madcow is, beyond my comprehension, wealthy and somewhat famous; therefore, resulting in providing jobs. She does realize that poor and even the middle-class do not have the funds needed to create jobs.
The more successful you are, the less you should pay — it is about incentive and reward. Promoting a nanny and cradle to grave society is indeed not a way to promote self-reliance, drive, and motivation to become more successful. This is the core difference between the left and right.

It doesn’t work that way – even if taxes were equal, which is what you reference (I think), if you’re making a million and I’m making 100k, both at 10% tax rates, you’ll still pay more.
If what you wrote isn’t a typo (and I think it is) then you’re saying the wealthiest should pay ZERO taxes. I think it’s a typo…
I think it better to say “The harder/smarter you work, the more you earn, the more you keep.”

Oct. 4, 2012 at 11:01amRepublicans needs to start playing the democrats game. Learn to tell the truth and not answer the question to get YOUR point across and avoid giving them the answer they want. All Rudy had to say was rich people pay more in taxes than the poor. No matter how they frame their question, the answer is rich people always pay more than the poor.
You would drive them nuts because your answer is factual and they cant get you to give them the sound bite they want.
Even ask them “Are you saying rich people dont pay more than poor people?” Just to rile them more!!
You need to get into the debate. If asked “Do the tax cuts Romney wants help the rich, is it a tax cut for the rich?” Your answer is “If you are asking if the rich pay more in taxes than the poor under the romney plan yes they pay more”
Its simple and they cant stand it.

Oct. 4, 2012 at 8:51amOne of Madcows first shows had a clip of a big time economist the clip. The economist was asked could McCain run a business and he said “no, he couldn’t,” and Madcow went on for half her show bashing McCain “if he can’t run a business, why is he running for president”
However on fox the same clip aired and the guy said “no, he couldn’t, but neither could Obama.” This opened my eyes to MSNBCs lying. And it’s funny now that we have a guy who can she’s blasting Romney over his business experience.

Oct. 4, 2012 at 8:30amI know this question has been thrown out there a million times but I’ll ask again. Where does this disdain (dare I say, hatred) toward people who are “rich”? Progressives must think people, that make more than the average person, must have made the money either illegally or immorally. Okay maybe not immorally since morals supposedly went out of style 4 years ago.

Oct. 4, 2012 at 6:03pmProgressives want people to hate the rich because it is an easy way to cause distrust—a have’s vs the have-not’s. Progressives know that if they try to actually use facts to support their beliefs they will fail.. If people are making decsions based on emotions and what they feel they are more likely to not think through the problem and come up with the right solution. Another thing is that progressives want people to “think” with their emotions (like jealosy or envy) instead of actually making an analytical decision based on facts

Oct. 4, 2012 at 8:26amIn reference to tax cuts, the disconnect occurs when an ignorant talking head asks “How are we going to pay for it?”, as if the government were on the losing end when it comes to taxes.
When it comes to taxes, the ONLY people stuck with worrying how to pay for them are the taxpayers. Tax CUTS are nothing more than reducing the amount taxpayers pay, or REFUNDING over-payments to taxpayers, which almost never happens.
It is a sure sign of ignorance (or contempt of the listener) when someone on tv or radio asks “How are we (the gobblement) going to pay for them?” in reference to tax cuts. Remember that, Lefties; they often treat you as if you’re stupid or ignorant; you often prove them right…

I totally agree, that very supposition is that all money belongs to the government, and they graciously let you keep a portion of what you earn. Kind of legalized slavery, that’s why the employer has to take the govmnts share out before you get your share. It’s the ChiTown racket system on steroids, no wonder obama and axelrod/plouffe were so anxious to take ownership of the govmnt. ( No misspelling here, I’m just putting the government on a diet!)

Oct. 4, 2012 at 8:13amI too was amused by the talking heads at MSNBC. In fact Ms Madcow it is FAR more complex than calculus which offers only one correct answer for a problem.
There is a disconnect that started some 25 years ago – the idea that a tax cut had to be paid for as if the government actually knows how much money will actually come in in any given year. The government can’t even answer how much it owes.
