Army Instructor Ousted Over Muslim Groups’ Complaints About ‘Bigoted’ Teachings on Radical Islam Fights Back

Matthew Dooley Fights Back After He Was Suspended Over Muslim Groups Complaints on Islam Teachings

A highly decorated Army lieutenant colonel says he was essentially blacklisted by his superiors after more than 50 Muslim groups complained about a course he taught on radical Islam. Now he is fighting to get his career back.

As previously reported by TheBlaze, Lt. Col. Matthew Dooley, a West Point graduate and decorated combat veteran, was an instructor at the Joint Forces Staff College at the National Defense University, where he was reportedly popular among students and fellow staff members, FoxNews.com reports.

That all changed when Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, slammed Dooley and his “Perspectives on Islam and Islamic Radicalism” course during a Pentagon press conference in May, calling his teachings unprofessional and “against our values.”

He was later given a negative Officer Evaluation Report (OER), which was unusual given the fact that Dooley had passed the evaluations with flying colors the previous five years. Dooley says a bad OER is like being blacklisted in military circles.

“This was a very heavy-handed approach from the very top,” Richard Thompson, president of the Thomas More Law Center, told Fox News. His organization is now representing Dooley in the case. To read one of their latest press releases on the case, click here.

“He had a brilliant career ahead of him,” Thompson added. “Now, he has been flagged…“They [superiors] ordered a negative evaluation. He will never have the opportunity for promotion unless this is overturned.”

Attorneys at the Thomas More Law Center believe a letter sent to the White House, Department of Homeland Security and other federal agencies about a year ago and signed by 57 Islamic organizations caused the federal government to clamp down on Dooley, his course and ultimately all the government’s training material on radical Islam. Among the organizations who signed the letter are the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), both named unindicted co-conspirators in the Holy Land Foundation trial, the largest terrorism financing case in U.S. history.

Lawmakers and critics have alleged that the letter led to the massive purge of terms than Muslims might find “offensive” in government training materials, which Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) says threatens U.S. national security. The feds enlisted a number of “Islamic experts” to help with the purge, however, they have refused to reveal who they are despite numerous inquiries from Congress and members of the press.

The Washington Times explains some of the changes that occurred:

The FBI training manual changed. Nearly 900 pages of training that was considered offensive were deleted. Members like Congressman Allen West, Florida Republican, and Congressman Louie Gohmert, Texas Republican, were critical of the purge.

Gohmert questioned FBI director Robert Mueller in May 2012 about the deleting of FBI material. Rep. Gohmert went to the House floor and compared the number of times certain terms (at 22:40) were used in the 9/11 Commission report as opposed to the now purged FBI training manual. For example, according to Gohmert, the 9/11 report mentioned the word “Islam” 322 times. However, Gohmert discusses that the FBI training manual can no longer mention the terms: Islam, Muslim, jihad, enemy, Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas, Hezbollah, al Qaeda, caliphate, Shariah law.

“The people who were the hijackers the people who planned the attacks that hoped to have killed tens of thousands of Americans instead of three thousand those were Islamists…they believed in Islam. And thank God that they only represent a tiny percentage of Muslims around the world, but let’s be realistic. As one intelligence officer said, ‘we are blinding ourselves to being able to see who our enemy is.’”

“Dooley is still serving in the military and not allowed to speak publicly on his case, according to Thompson. But the soldier is hoping to have his negative OER revised and be reinstated in his job as an instructor, according to Thompson, who maintains that the guidelines from the NDU Faculty Handbook were disregarded when Dooley was relieved of his position,” according to FoxNews.com.

I apologize the leadership does not have the same morals, values, & honor you do. We know that the lesson plan is not utilized without scrutiny & approval. We know Islam is one of our enemies. We know we’ve been infiltrated by our enemy. You will not be the last man to be set-up.

Hold you head high, Sir.

Military, law enforcement, AND civilians need to know & understand the Declaration of Independence and Constitution. They are integral to eachother. Know what you believe & who you serve.

  Speaking from experience, if a superior wants to ruin your career, they can do it. I had a Battalion Executive Officer tell me what the outcome of an investigation into a case of immersion foot was going to be. He practically ordered me to find the section chief derelict in his duty. The evidence and even the Section Chief’s own Battery Commander said that the Staff Sergeant had done EVERYTHING that anyone could have done. That was what I wrote on my report. The Major went to my commander and told him that I hadn’t finished the report. I informed my commander that I HAD finished the report and that the Major had pressured me to change my findings. (In hindsight, I should’ve gone to the AG’s office, I might have gotten out of that battalion before getting an eval.) The Major (and the Lt Colonel Battalion Commander) proceeded to take disciplinary action against the Staff Sergeant, thereby forcing him out of the Army. I have to wonder if they got another Lt to write a different finding for the investigation. I’m certain that there were ones in the battalion who would’ve gladly done so. I wasn’t one of them.

  It has been said many, many times that political correctness will be the death of us all. What a terrible thing for Lt. Col. Dooley to have to suffer for telling the truth and trying to do the job the same higher ups told him to do.   Young Americans planning a military career may want to consider joining the Russian or Chinese armed forces. The 47 percenters have no need or interest in the US Military. Obama is cutting the weapons budget and medical care. The Veterans Administration no longer can care for our veterans. Congress does not care either. Everything in America is concerned with wealth transfer to blacks. More money is spent on free cell phones for blacks than medical care for sick veterans.

  What does it take for an FBI agent sworn to uphold the US Constitution and the Law to say, “NO I WILL NOT DO THAT OR LET YOU DO THAT BECAUSE ITS ILLEGAL’” FBI agents knew about Fast and Furious and did nothing. FBI agents knew about the KGB infiltration of the US Secret Service and did not go public. Its too dangerous to remain part of the USA and its time to form a new breakaway Republic dedicated to Liberty and Freedom. It makes me wonder why anyone would volunteer to be in our military,they have to fight the foreign enemy and their domestic enemy inside the military and the regime itself. This kissing Islam ass is going to destroy this country because if you can’t identify the enemy you can’t win. This is part of the ‘project’ that Beck exposed and if it isn’t eliminated there’s no way in hell we can defeat Islamic savages.

  Exactly. The campaigner and thief has said when our heros are killed or injured that it was their choice since “they volunteered”. I don’t think they volunteered to be sent into harms way with orders not to defend themselves against those don’t appreciate the blood & billions we have given to them. My husband my family have served but I won’t let my son enlist because the last 4 years the civilian commandor has shown nothing but disdain for our military.

  Real problem is this has gone all the way to the battlefield, our troops cannot fight back, even with evidence of enemy intentions..running with rocket launcher after rocket hits base for 165th time since May. Apaches are ordered not to fire… I pray everyday this craziness stops and my son comes home safely. After 20 yrs of service, this is how it is now and it is a disgrace for all our military members.   I don’t see any exception to a political organization that names itself a “religion” and pursues it’s goals of indoctrination thus – you either recant your religion for islam or, you pay a tax, or you die; if you have not been indoctrinated in youth, islam indoctrinates by use of force or threat of force. What is the difference between islam and marxism? Like Marxists, islamists purge their populations of non-believers through murder, banishment, threat of force, jail and denial of social privileges.

  Did you guys read that letter? It IS treasonous. Look how many organizations support this and how many are law firms. Nobody wants to get sued. That is a tactic for the overall strategy of taking the fight out of us.
  
  Also, notice who the letter was sent to and forwarded to…the enemies of the Republic.
  
  These people are all bullies (Islamists & our leadership). There’s only one way to get a bully off your back…a show of equal or superior force. We don’t have the money to fight this in courts. I can’t imagine that several people haven’t already had career or death threats for standing up to this garbage. And that’s what followers of Islam are.

Having been assigned as an instructor, twice in the Army. First for new trainees in AIT, then shortly afterwards on two tours being responsible to teach OB and OA courses. No officer or NCO sets foot into a classroom with his own made up class and just starts teaching. This officer was assigned his task to teach a certain subject or subjects and likely was required to research and write his lesson plans if they were not available and handed to him in a notebook. Once the lesson plan is written it is reviewed by his superiors for approval, and again by his teaching peers. Then he goes through a murder board of fellow trained instructor officers primarily and some NCO may be included. They will pick everything they can apart regarding his class or classes, and his performance will tell mightily whether he gets the job or not regardless of his rank. I saw a Vietnam war veteran Major break down and cry during a murder board. They are brutal to say the least. This officer’s OIC at that time cannot say that he had no idea what this LTC was teaching. A politically correct, spineless fellow ring knocker screwed him with that OER. The Army was full of these guys back in my day, and they are apparently still amongst the real men who serve.

  Spot on, you do not teach any class in the army with out it being totally approved at all levels. From the training specialist, course developer to the commander of that school house (O-7/O-6 Level) and then it may be reviewed during accreditation inspections. This is BS, if indeed there were offensive materials in this lesson plan, they would of been taken out. We are on a very slippery slope with radical Islam making in roads, trying to change our country.

  It’s a damn shame we have some candyasses in our military,I know it’s policy created by the MB inside our government. Our Marxist POS fraud masquerading as president is to blame for most of this PC BS which is destroying our military and our society as a whole and it’s crucial he’s fired for the sake of our republic.

  Hi MONK, Thanks, but this article just brought back memories of some of the officers and NCO with limp noodles for spines that I met back in the day. Naturally, no way near all, but there were enough around to make one remember them. JTTRI above is quite correct that an O6 Colonel, or O7 Brigadier General who would be the school commandant shoulders the final responsibility.

Oh for crying out loud! These are people (Muslims are, that is) who WANT US ENSLAVED, CONVERTED, OR KILLED. And they aren’t kidding. The atrocities they are willing, nay happy, to commit to their own people (honor killings, stoning gays) should be screamingly against everything a true American, especially Liberals who are SO intent on preserving everyone’s rights to be who they are. Supporting Islam makes a mockery of every ideal progressive liberals hold dear. I wonder how all the black Baptists who vote Obama will feel when their churches are burned, their choirs destroyed, and their pastors tortured. Why can’t people see the very real danger this group represents?
