The religious war is intensifying on New York City’s subway platforms. Two faith groups will hang ads urging tolerance toward Muslims alongside blogger Pamela Geller’s anti-jihad advertisements that equate Muslim radicals with savages.
The ads by Rabbis for Human Rights – North America and the Christian group Sojourners will go up Monday. This latter organization is led by Jim Wallis, a progressive pastor who advises President Barack Obama and who has been an outspoken proponent of liberal values. TheBlaze first told you about his group’s ad campaign on Monday.
The New York Times reports that they’ll hang in the 10 Manhattan subway stations where the anti-jihad ads implying enemies of Israel are “savages” appear. So far, no plans to counter Geller’s bus ads have been announced (the blogger is still awaiting approval from the Metropolitan Transit Authority to launch an expanded ad campaign on the NYC bus system).
The rabbis’ ad says: “In the choice between love and hate, choose love. Help stop bigotry against our Muslim neighbors.”

“We wanted to make it clear that it is in response to the anti-Islam ad,” explained Rabbi Jill Jacobs, executive director of Rabbis for Human Rights. ”Geller thinks she is speaking for the entire Jewish community. We are a group of 1,800 rabbis and we want everyone to know that we have to work in partnership with the Muslim community and do not believe in dehumanizing them.”
Wallis’ Christian ad says: “Love your Muslim neighbors.”

“An essential tenet of Christianity is to love our neighbors,” explained the Rev. Beau Underwood, Sojourners’ campaigns manager. “In the face of religious extremism, the best response is to treat others like we would want to be treated. Our ad campaign has a simple message that is at the heart of our faith.”

On Wednesday, another group, United Methodist Women, placed pro-Muslim ads in the subway. They say: “Hate speech is not civilized.”
The American Freedom Defense Initiative, led by Geller, is behind the anti-jihad ads that sparked the initial controversy. As TheBlaze has extensively reported, she has been in a long and complicated battle with the MTA, the company that owns and operates the city’s subway, train and bus systems.
While the transit authority initially attempted to ban the ads last year, a judge ruled in Geller’s favor, leading to a decision to post them at numerous subway stops last month. Now, these counter ads are intended to defend against what these religious groups see as negative, anti-Islam messages.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Oct. 5, 2012 at 12:30pmWe are comanded to love our enemys, not defend hate. The ad was pro Israel and anti JIHAD (hate).
You are my enemy Jim Wallis, I love you. I despise what you do. The fact that you can’t or won’t see the difference scares me. We are to speak the truth in love. Do not give cover to hate.

Oct. 6, 2012 at 10:27pmVery well-said!
Dhimmies don’t grasp the simple concept that jihadis don’t care if the dhimmies want to live in peace and coexist with them…. they’ll still lop their heads off for not bowing down to allah 5 times a day.
Pamela’s signs don’t say that MUSLIMS are savages – it’s pretty clear cut to me that the sign indicates that those who WAGE JIHAD are the savages she’s referring to. They don’t love their Jewish, Christian, Buddhist, Sikh, or any other denomination brothers and sisters (nor agnostics and atheists) – why should we tolerate their hate? If we practiced the kind of tolerance that Islam does, Mecca would’ve been a giant sheet of glass long ago.
I do believe there’s a little something about loving the sinner and hating the sin if I remember correctly, but I’m fairly certain that our creator would not expect us to “turn the other cheek” while some rabid jihadi is attempting to saw our head off.

Oct. 5, 2012 at 12:18pmWhen someone mentions “hate speech”, the one thing you know about them for sure, is they are anti-1st amendment. The two statements cannot logically exist side by side. You are either for 1st amendments rights or you’re not. Period!

I would suggest that if you are sincere with your comments, you are the hater. You willfully support those who kill freely those that only disagree with belief systems. That group is, by these actions, inhuman. You need to engage in serious introspection seeking aid to overcome your misguidance.

Don’t fool yourself. We all know that Geller is referring to all Muslims when she equates Muslim radicals with savages, otherwise she would have included Muslims when she asks for America to “support Thailand, Hindus, etc.”, but she didn’t. She isn’t fooling anyone but people like you. There must always be a distinction made between the radically religious and the traditionally religious. But, Geller refuses to recognize this distinction and shows her hate for the entire religion with fear mongering posters, and people like those on this site eat it up.

Oct. 5, 2012 at 11:41amFollow Wallis at your peril. His theology and doctrines are the Trojan Horse that defeats the hearts of faithful Christians and leads many to hell; the defeat of America is through the subversion of her founding faith.

Oct. 5, 2012 at 12:04pmIt’s standard Jim Wallis crap. He’s always quoting from his fake bible. Jesus said the greatest commandment is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind and soul, and to love your neighbor as yourself. In that concise statement, he laid out his plan for his creation. You cannot love your neighbor if you don’t love God. And by the way Mr. Wallis, telling the truth to your neighbor is love.

Oct. 5, 2012 at 12:14pmNothing like proving you are an imbecile by aiding and abetting your enemy and helping them to take over your country by swaying the minds of your fellow countrymen into believing Muslims just want to live here in peace…Wallis and his ilk are some of the most dangerous people in the U.S. today because they have the power to cause people to believe Muslims are their friends. Beware, the devil lurks amongst you.

Oct. 5, 2012 at 10:24amWell, I say THANK GOD some loving religious groups are willing to stand up to all of Geller’s hate. Spreading LOVE instead of HATE is what is going to turn the hearts of all Americans. It totally baffles me why so many Conservatives think that plastering hate and fear messages all over NYC is going to help America.

I don’t say hate but severe caution is the rule…they worship a lot but they don’t preach peace and love…their women and children are treated like dirt in a rug..sad…I know they live in dessert lands…but try to grow things…make your countries like Israel..move the water instead of bullets…make your land like ours/and Israel’s trees and foods…plant stuff…instead of cursing us/Isreal…work with love of the land that God gave us all no matter what religion..
