WASHINGTON (TheBlaze/AP) — The D.C. transit system must allow a pro-Israel ad that equates Muslim radicals with savages, a federal judge ruled Friday. A spokesman for the Metro system said it would comply with the judge’s decision and that the advertisements would go up over the weekend.
“The result is absolutely correct,” said David Yerushalmi, a lawyer representing the American Freedom Defense Initiative, the organization behind the advertisements. “There simply was no way under the First Amendment jurisprudence that we have today that this ad should not have gone up when contracted.”
The one-page ruling from U.S. District Judge Mary Collyer follows a similar court order in New York that cleared the way for anti-jihad ads to go up in that city’s subway system last month. The ads read: “In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man. Support Israel. Defeat Jihad.”
Debate over the ads flared two weeks ago against the backdrop of violent reaction in the Middle East to the online video, “Innocence of Muslims,” which denigrated the prophet Muhammad. Metro had delayed approving the ads because of safety concerns and the uproar over that video.
The transit system’s lawyers called the ad’s message “fighting words in the context of current events” and said the FBI was investigating a promise of violence if the ads ran in Washington. Still, the violence that roiled the region has largely abated since then, and there have been few reports of mischievous or hostile reactions to the ads since they appeared in New York.
As previously reported by TheBlaze, Mona Eltahawy, an Egyptian-born activist, was arrested in New York City on Sept. 26 after she was caught on video using a can of spray paint to deface the anti-jihad ad at a subway station.
Here’s the raw footage of the confrontation (Warning! Graphic language):
The New York ads went up in 10 stations across Manhattan on Sept. 24. Since then, two religious groups say that, starting Monday, they’ll hang ads urging tolerance alongside the anti-jihad ones. The ads also appeared recently on city buses in San Francisco, where some have been defaced or have had words removed.
The ads won’t be particularly visible in the Metro system. One ad will appear in each of four Metro stations for one month, said Metro spokesman Dan Stessel.

Oct. 6, 2012 at 2:50pmI am sorry if you plan is to kill me, I do not have to show you TOLERANCE. Get that crap out of your freaking mind right now.
Only a radical Muslim like Mona would be upset with this poster. Perhaps we should investigate her. Is she here legally? I had no idea she was Egyptian born. So Mona are you a jihadist we should be concerned about?

Oct. 7, 2012 at 1:58pmThe problem is– the people who are “offended” by the ads clearly support violence. By saying the ads are wrong, they’re basically saying that violence is okay. What a joke.

Nov. 2, 2012 at 10:40amThis Summer a group of activists, Jewish Christian, Muslim put up 29 Billboards in the Los Angeles area asking not to support 30 billion dollars in aid to Isreal. and that the funds could feed US children, school and house many people in America. 90 percent of this aid goes to millitary aid. Plaestenians on the other hand have rocks to protect them selves or in the worst cas use their bodies and cause harm (not condoning this but see the despairation), The signs were taken down as AntiSemitic in two days. The thousands spent were not reimbursed by CBS signs. So do we support the State of Isreal that daily breaks international law or does tht mean nothing?

Oct. 6, 2012 at 6:05amMona Eltahawy, an Egyptian-born activist, please go back to Egypt if you hate America so much. The obvious fact that people like her come to this country, for a better life, and want to change this country into something else, is lost on so many people. The only racism, hate, and intolerance that I saw from this video was from Mona Eltahawy. “I warned her to get out of the way”… and she kept spraying the chemicals on the woman and in her face anyway. Such love from yet another liberal moron. Calling radical Islamists out as savages is an opinion… not racist. Typical “open mindedness” of the liberal loons. I have to wonder what Mona was more upset about… the support of Israel or the opinion against jihad. Thank you to the judges who saw this sign as a right of free speech.

Oct. 6, 2012 at 1:36amThe Insidious Popsicle Threat to Islamic Virtue
Adherents to the Muslim faith, a faith to which our president has sworn he does not adhere, believe in some odd things as contrasted with what Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, and members of just about every other religion on the planet believe.
Muslims also seem to think evil is lurking everywhere except, of course, when devout Islamists murder infidels, a central precept endorsed and encouraged in the Holy Koran because it’s a wonderful thing to slay non-Muslims in the name of Allah and jihad.
In addition, it’s perfectly acceptable to issue death warrants for apostates, to brutally rape journalists like Lara Logan and Natsha Smith, to conduct a virtual rape epidemic in Oslo, to firebomb Charlie Hebdo because they don’t like the publication, and to commit various and multiple other atrocities.
But, back to popsicles.
To certain Muslims, popsicles are a creation of the devil . . .

Oct. 6, 2012 at 9:22amFor kicks and giggles — read 201 U.S. 43 @ 89 [1906], along with dissenting opinions – Boiling it down – it simply means that one is free to do whatever one wishes in any manner whatsoever, so long as one doesn’t trespass upon the rights or property of another. In this case, the STATE cannot compel one to comply with ANYTHING which violates the trespass principle. Remedies are available in Federal Court. The knife cuts both ways. Perhaps when we as a People quit tolerating flagrant trespasses AGAINST us which violate the spirit and language of the law from the jury box, we can keep this run-away freight train from going further over the cliff.

Oct. 6, 2012 at 12:27amIt would be the “Egytion(sp)”American(Excuse me, I thought if you were a citizen of the country, you were AMERICAN!) woman’s right to protest the poster, and I will defend her right to Protest, However, I believe that what she was doing was actually “defacing” public property, which is a crime. When the other person interjected her body between the “protester” and the poster, the protester continued to Deface public property AND assault the woman who put herself in the way(as is her right) of the Protester. Screaming about her right to peacefully protest(while comiting the crime of Defacing public property) the officers correctly placed her under arrest. And no they Do not have to inform you at that precise time why. I could be wrong, but I hope that she was charged with the crime of defacing public property and Assault on the other woman. Just my thoughts and yours may vary.
