Report: Intercepted Drone May Have Been Headed for Israel’s Nuclear Reactor in Dimona
As TheBlaze reported Saturday, Israeli Air Force fighter jets downed a drone that entered Israeli airspace. The IDF released footage of the interception. Now, it appears there may be more to the story.
Ron Ben-Yishai, the well-connected military affairs correspondent for the Israeli newspaper Yediot Aharonot, reports that one of the scenarios IDF analysts are investigating is whether the drone was headed to Israel’s nuclear reactor in the southern city of Dimona. He writes:
One of the possibilities the security establishment is looking into is that the unmanned aircraft, which was apparently Iranian-made, was on its way to test the option of infiltrating the nuclear reactor in Dimona, perhaps even to examine the option of targeting the plant in a future conflict.
A drone such as the one that was downed on Saturday after penetrating Israel’s airspace through the Mediterranean Sea could not cause serious damage to the reactor, but such an incident would mark a psychological victory for Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah, whose leader Hassan Nasrallah recently threatened to attack strategic targets in Israel, including power plants.
On Sunday, the Lebanese television channel Al-Mayadeen which is affiliated with Hezbollah reported that the drone belonged to Hezbollah. Israeli media report that military officials also believe Hezbollah is behind the drone incursion, even though it flew into Israel from the south, passing Gaza on its way. This follows previous Hezbollah attempts at deploying Iranian-made drones over Israel
Just last week, Hezbollah published an infographic detailing visually how it aims to invade northern Israel and capture the entire Galilee region one day. The radical Islamist group’s online tour included its aspiration to capture northern Israel’s main cities (which it calls “Palestinian”) including: Haifa, Tiberias and Nazareth and – significantly – articulated a desire to target strategic assets including the country’s main oil refinery and seaport.
Ben-Yishai details the new complication the drone weapon poses for Israel:
The Iranians are aware that Israel has the capability to deal with rockets and missiles with its Iron Dome and Arrow air defense systems, but dealing with the threat of a slow drone poses a different kind of challenge.
Operating a drone by remote control from such a long distance requires advanced capabilities, which Israel was not aware Hezbollah had acquired. By examining the drone’s parts, the army hopes to find out whether the drone was controlled from a command center in Lebanon or was directed by a space-based satellite navigation system (GPS) according to predetermined coordinates. If that was the case, the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) may have directed itself automatically and was supposed to return to its base or self-destruct over the sea.
Whether it was headed to Dimona or not, the IDF will have to reexamine its defense posture and how it defends against this new challenge. Ben-Yishai reports the drone was not carrying explosives, suggesting its focus was intelligence gathering.
Israeli military officials believe Hezbollah will eventually launch explosives-laden drones. A senior Israeli Air Force official told Ben-Yishai: “In the next war Syrian and Iranian drones will also be sent on ‘suicide’ missions.”
Israel is widely-believed to possess nuclear weapons, but has not publicly admitted it, preferring to stick to its policy of “nuclear ambiguity.”

Correction. Israel WAS socialist. While it is true that today they have public education an rudimentary government funded health care, their market system is capitalism. A socialist state couldn’t possibly be anywhere near as innovative as Israel is. More modern innovation has come out of Israel recently than any European country, with only the US and China actually exceeding it. Even the aforementioned health care system allows for competition by allowing citizens to choose their basic service provider from a list of approved insurance companies and one can then opt to, of their own volition, purchase additional coverage from whichever provider they wish.

Correction: Israel is a democracy for Israelis. Non-Jewish Israelis vote in Israel’s elections, serve as part of its government, and even serve on its Supreme Court. If that’s a “democracy for Jews” than the US is a democracy for Christians, particularly Protestants.

Clinton certainly left Bush with a mess, it’s remarkable that Bush managed no worse than he did, but that was small potatoes compared to what O. is going to leave behind (or muck up even further).
If O. does lose, we can expect him to do his very best during his lame duck months to worsen things for the U.S.

The enemies of Israel knows Obama is weak on this support for Israel, as much as he can get away with politically, and would not support Isreal even in words if the American people were not for support for Israel. How exactly and why exactly did Hezbollah “take credit”? Why would Hezbollah “take credit” for getting its @SS kicked? Any evidence on where the drone was launched? Is a drone’s hellfire missiles (while deadly as anti-personnel weapons) really any threat to a large nuclear facility? Or is it MORE likely, that IF the drone was indeed from Lebanon and directed by Hezbollah, that the drone was attempting to gather intelligence on ISRAEL’s nuclear arms? After all, a drone’s PRIMARY MISSION is to gather intelligence. Maybe you name callers should THINK before you call those with differing opinions “pot smoking fools”.
Do I think this was a “false flag” operation by Mossad? No. Do I think that Iran was flying the drone? Most likely, yes. Do I think that Iran which is “20 yards” away from getting “the Bomb” was trying to “destroy” a frickin’ nuclear power plant with a drone armed with hellfire missiles? No. INTELLIGENCE, people, INTELLIGENCE is the PRIMARY MISSION of drones! If Iran only wanted a nuclear reactor for non-aggressive reasons, why would they build it so far underground in a remote mountain region? If their intentions are peaceful, why are they giving drones to Hezbollah? Honestly, I’d already considered the reactor as a possible destination based on the fact it was headed for the northern part of the Negev. It’s not like there’s any thing else of strategic value there.

Good day. Ain’t heard from ya for a while. The answer to your question is an easy one. They had to build it underground because they live near the most belligerent nation on the globe, Israel. You know, the one picked as the greatest threat to world peace.

Fact: To this day Syria insists that both Israel and Jordan have no right to exist as both are actually part of southern Syria.
Fact: Syria actively supports and funds Hezbollah and, unlike Israel, occupied a neighboring country for years after launching an unprovoked invasion. Moreover, their association with Hezbollah effectively makes them defacto rulers of Lebanon to this day.
Fact: Iraq under Saddam Hussein was willing to use WMDs on Israel without provocation. The evidence is in the fact that Israel was struck by over two dozens chemical weapons launched by Iraq.
Fact: Moreover, just like Syria, Iraq has invaded another sovereign nation without provocation. Or did you forget why the Gulf War started?
The truth is, Iran doesn’t want peace with Israel. Israel has never attacked Iran and yet they continue to actively sponsor just about every major terrorist group seeking Israel’s annihilation. As for Israel attacking Iraq’s facilities, if anything, considering the animosity that existed between the two regimes, Iran should have thanks Israel. Or would you argue that a nuclear Iraq would have been a good thing for Iran? Israel even voiced its support for Iran against Iraq.
Iran has been given every reason to be on good terms with Israel. So then, why aren’t they?

And, to your second point. A large portion of the world population sees Israel as the greatest threat to peace… if you include the U.N., Europe, and the billions of Muslims. So, fact is, Israel is on a small island of support. It is the odd nation out.

Very Clinton-esque. We could quibble about the definition, but why. Let’s get into your history.
In 722 B.C., the Assyrians annihilated the nation of Israel. Then, through deportation and assimilation, Israeli’s completely vanished from history. They existed no more. Gone, bye-bye.
Some of the Jews, today, are the descendents of the Jews from Judea, a nation disposed of by the Romans in 70 A.D.. They were not from Israel. I say “some of the Jews,” because, as you know, many of today’s Jews have no tie to Judea, or Abram, or Moses. They are the descendents of the Khazars.
Therefore, there is/was no covenant with these non-descendent Jews, many of whom are the Zionists of present day Israel, which was carved out of Palestine. These are Jews, using their adopted Jewishness, for the secular desire of stealing from another people, the Palestinians.

First of all, the Khazar thing is total ******** and everyone who isn’t antisemitic knows that. Since you didn’t even bother to try and defend I won’t bother debunking it.
Second, your point about the Kingdom of Israel being destroyed in 722 is completely irrelevant. This is true for a number of reasons. Firstly, Israel and Judea were originally one kingdom known as Israel. The second kingdom seceded from this kingdom after the death of Solomon and the remainder was then renamed Judea. Thus Judea could be considered the “true” Israel. The modern day state of Israel was named after this original united kingdom.
Second, Jews had a country called Judea which existed most recently as a vassal state of Rome. Rome, as an insult to rob the Jews of their homeland, renamed their country Palestine after the great revolt and revoked what little independence they had previously had. Regardless of what they chose to name their state, the modern Jewish state can be considered the reborn Judea by a different name. Or would you argue that Burma and Myanmar aren’t the same country by two different names?
Third, Jews to this day still refer to themselves by the Hebrew term “Am Yisroel” which literally translates to “the nation of Israel” (Israel of course referring to Jacob).
Lastly, when Israel became a state in 1948, they could have chosen to name their state whatever they wanted. You entire argument is based solely on the fact that they happened to choose Israe

So, regarding your latest charge of antisemitism, let me point you in the direction of the respected historian, Paul Johnson. On page 250 of his book, “A History of the Jews,” he describes the truth that you can not handle; the historical fact of the Khazars and Judaism.
If that is not enough, let’s talk about the Jewish, Kevin Alan Brook. He wrote a book titled, “The Jews of Khazaria.” Now, I’m sure that an intellectual, such as yourself, will find another label to throw around at these people, because they, too, tell as different factual history from the fiction of your mind, but in the end… the truth will still remain the truth.

At no point did I deny the existence of Khazaria, I merely denied the false notion that all of Askenazi Jewry is descended from them exclusively and not the Jews of Judea. I have never claimed that no Jew of today is descended from the Khazars, only that the Khazars joined the already present Jewish community of Europe and Russia. The proof is in the fact that the term Askenazi refers to them. Ashkenaz refers to a region is central Europe, hundreds of miles from Khazaria.

THE_JERK needs to read the Bible. Starting with Revelations. You will see Obama for who he really is.
The Bible explains why it is crucial to the United States for Israel to be protected. If Israel falls into the hands of Islam, so does the United States, then the rest of the World will soon follow. Then it’s Armageddon “game over” for the entire World.
The Jews of Israel are God’s chosen people. Jesus will return to earth in Jerusalem, on the Mount of Olives. Jerusalem is considered to be the center of the world.

Cruel people are cruel. That’s the only all encompassing statement that can be said to be true. If you had said “there were/are cruel Zionists” you’d be correct. But you didn’t say that. You categorically judged everyone associated with a particular ideology as cruel based 1. on the testimony of those who opposed their ideology instead of an unbiased third party and 2. based on the actions of specific individuals, not the group as a whole.
By using the same approach you have chosen, I could “prove” that all men, regardless of race, culture, or upbringing, are inherently cruel.

As long as America was a staunch ally of Israel America prospered. Our word, our might, our friendship and support of Israel was enough to deter her enemies. Now Israel has been cast aside by America and by many Americans. God has taken notice of all who fail His Israel.

I read your words. You guys/gals claim this is a false flag. In order to be one, it would require Israel to promote a fabricated event in order to claim an assault by another entity. That other entity is claiming credit and therefore takes the false flag argument out of play. Israel could have bombed Iran into the stone-age long ago. They are being highly restrained in their response.

At least Beck and his team have the guts to put it out for we the people to do our homework and at least be aware of the situations that are going on right under our noses. NO conspiracy theory here. Did you even have a point with that link? That article hasn’t been updated since yesterday. Moreover, just because they don’t know specifically where it came from doesn’t mean they can’t figure out who may have been responsible based on other factors. It is a fact that Hezbollah has used Iranian drones in the past and it is a fact that a news group connected to Hezbollah gave Hezbollah credit for launching the drone. That may not be conclusive but it unquestionably puts Hezbollah and Iran down as suspects number one and two.

It’s also a fact that Israel has supplied Iran with shipments of HAWK and TOW missiles before too:

Seein’ as how Israel has already demonstrated a propensity to deliver very deadly weapons to Iran before, then you’ll have to forgive me if I am just a bit skeptical of your claim.

THE_JERK…..Read Joshua 10
” for the LORD fought for Israel”
God kept the sun from setting so Joshua and his army could have enough light to defeat their enemy, the Amorites.
12. Then Joshua spoke to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the sons of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, “O sun, stand still at Gibeon, And O moon in the valley of Aijalon.”
13. So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, Until the nation avenged themselves of their enemies. Is it not written in the book of Jashar? And the sun stopped in the middle of the sky and did not hasten to go down for about a whole day.
14. There was no day like that before it or after it, when the LORD listened to the voice of a man; for the LORD fought for Israel.
15 .Then Joshua and all Israel with him returned to the camp, to Gilgal.

A strong President would find out the undeniable answers to the question and promptly send a clear message that it is unacceptable. Whether it be through a speech, or …? The world needs to see the USA will defend it’s allies and it’s interests. In my cursory understanding of Hezbollah, they are only tens of thousands strong and that is giving them a lot of credit. Posted on October 7, 2012 at 12:27pmSpying on Iran is a perfect use for our drones. We can”t blame OBonzo for wanting the most detailed up-to-date surveillance on our enemies, And we shouldn’t blame him for it getting shot down. But the military presented OBlamo with three different plans to recover and/or destroy our drone and he refused them all. For this reason it was most likely Hezbollah at direction of Iran and with assistance from Russia was able to mount such an assault on Israel.
