Columbia Professor Mocks Columbus Day With List of ’15 Most Overrated White People’
In honor of Columbus Day, Marc Lamont Hill, associate professor of English education at Columbia University, HuffPost Live host and political commentator, penned an op-ed on Monday in which he lists the “15 most overrated white people” — a very interesting way to observe the national holiday.
“Today, our nation engages in one of its most bizarre cultural rituals: the celebration of Columbus Day as a national holiday. Although history proves that Christopher Columbus was an immoral treasure hunter who merely stumbled upon a region that had already been ‘discovered’ by indigenous non-whites, we continue to praise the vicious conquistador as a hero,” Hill writes in his blog post published on the Huffington Post.
“To honor the true spirit of Columbus Day, I have created my own list of overrated white people. Of course, this list is not exhaustive, as there are countless other White people who are equally underwhelming,” he continues.
The list includes Ronald Reagan, Elvis Presley, Justin Bieber, Tim Tebow, President Obama’s economic team, William Shakespeare, Eminem and even former President Bill Clinton.
It’s not just that Hill feels he must single out “white people” in his blog post but he also insists on comparing a number of them to African-Americans, suggesting an “us against them” mentality on the issue of race.
Here’s just a taste of his list:
“Tebow’s celebrity — despite the fact that he couldn’t beat out mediocre Mark Sanchez for a starting spot — proves an old football axiom: Black men throw interceptions; White men are ‘gunslingers,’” Hill writes.
On Justin Bieber: “Sure, the kid can sing and dance. But is he better than dozens of black R&B singers? Nope.”
“Elvis didn’t write his own songs (despite taking credit for them), barely played the guitar, and was a worse actor than the entire cast of Belly. Despite being a cheap facsimile of Little Richard, he is still known as the ‘King of Rock ‘n Roll.’ Only in America…”
As previously mentioned, he also jabbed at some of his Democratic allies like Clinton and President Obama’s economic team.
“Black folk regularly regard Clinton as a messianic figure. He may have been better than Bush, but Slick Willie was far from a savior,” Hill writes.
“Obama’s closest economic advisors have continued to push forward a business-as-usual strategy that continues to reward big business, stimulate the wealthy, undermine fair trade, and deny the possibility of living wages for poor people around the globe.”

Posted on October 8, 2012 at 8:11pmCheck out “professor” Hill’s resume. He’s a professor of hip hop culture. That says a lot about the state of education in our country. Also note that he is employed at Columbia University, which has a long history of harboring extreme Leftists, Socialists, Communists and Communist fellow travelers going all the way back to the Russian Revolution. This university has had a malignant effect upon our country for decades. We should not be surprised to find people like professor Hill lurking in the halls and classrooms of Columbia.

Posted on October 8, 2012 at 8:26pmGee… We have an associate professor of English education in Mr. Hill… I’m certain he claimed minority status like this certain Indian Squaw (not) we know did, to get his job. Who is Justin Bieber? A white Canadian singer that has all these teen and pre teen girls as his fan base… You would think Mr Hill would have some knowledge of marketing, but alas no!!!
“But is he better than dozens of black R&B singers? Nope.”
According to Mr Beiber’s fan base and his check book, he is!!! Teen girls aren’t into rhythm and blues. Blacks seem to be more into rap, which is a completely different genera and 99% of white teen girls don’t get into rap until they go to college and revert to complete stupidity.
Mr. Hill is no more than a racist much like all the Democrats that were Ku Klux Klan members that Mr Hill now seems to support and is in their back pocket… You Democrat party at work…

Posted on October 8, 2012 at 8:28pmK, let’s talk black people:
Rosa Parks
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Malcom “X”
Frederick Douglas
And on and on…
None of these were “over rated”…they were bigger than life and could move mountains with their words.
Yet…their words and deeds are down right laughable when you look at the black population of today. Whiny, arguementative leeches playing the system for as long of a ride as they can manage to take.
Look at how they honor the very leaders who led them into the light and out of slavery. Massive crime, disgusting rap songs, thuggery, destruction of the language, terrorizing any of their own people who try to learn and stand on their own 2 feet as “men” and “women” rather than as angry gangbangers screaming racist at every possible chance. They’ve willingly become a massive welfare class with no “roots” back to their individual heritage thanks to their “absentee father” and “baby mama” culture.
The new black generation is not over rated…they are a disgrace to humanity and a civilized society…and pegged rightly so.

Masterful rejoinder, but let’s also be careful to add that there are SOME who REFUSE the culture of separation and rebellion against the good that is to be found in America, and JOIN American culture to become the Mia Loves, the Herman Cains, the Allen Wests and the many unsung others who DON’T miss the point of celebrating Columbus Day as a symbol of entrepreneurial spirit, of the indomitable will to expand horizons, and of the triumph of faith (Columbus framed almost ALL of his experience in terms of how he might be an instrument in advancing his Christianity) over fear. Of COURSE it doesn’t all trace back to just him, and of COURSE there were mistakes and unavoidable clashes of civilization along the way, but why NOT recognize symbolically the root of this nation which has produced the greatest example of continual peace, prosperity, and stability for itself first, and also in the world, that this world has ever seen.
Those blacks in your list…If their principles were adhered to by all blacks, there’s NO reason in the world why the black community in the US today couldn’t be the shining city on the hill the entire nation also aspires to be.

Children that want ot learn, especially in the black community, have no chance cause they are held down by their peers that refuse to learn, and teachers that teach it’s against the law to speak the truth or have a different opinion about the president. The second is that he is an associate professor. If you don’t know the difference ask a full professor. His credentials make it apparent that his opinion is only marginally more important that the Dixie Chicks. I didn’t care what they had to say about the war in Iraq and I’m not particularly interested in what he has to say about anyone, much less “white people.”

Markiemark, the history of the black race, which has been in this country just about as long as whites, is a dismal mess and history has proven over and over again that except in the case of rare individuals, blacks need special treatment to succeed at anything, education, development of job skills, daily subsistence….what have you. Unfortunate that it may be, you know that this is true.
Rather than attacking whites you should be working instead to clean up the gangs, the welfare rolls, drug abuse, teen pregnancies, inner city crime, low performance in schools and all of the other psycho-social illnesses that keep blacks from attaining the status that they should work to gain, but which they demand instead simply because they are, God forbid, black.
You’re a hard case Hill and you are short-sighted and uninformed. Educated white folks don’t hate blacks and we’re not afraid of them either. We feel sorry for them because they listen to guys like you, Farrakhan, Van Jones, Jackson, Sharpen, rappers and other black racists who blame everyone else for all black problems.
No other nation on the planet offers as much for blacks as does America and you should encourage your peeps to take advantage of it rather than hate it because they are black.

Posted on October 9, 2012 at 10:37amLook, slavery was bad, we get it. Killing Indians was bad (yes, they are Indians, not “Native Americans,” which describes every person born in the US and it’s territories- the term Indian was taken from the Spanish word “indio”, meaning “indiginous”) but you know what, Dr. Hill? That was the way the entire world worked back then. It wasn’t immoral or unjust. It was reality. Before Columbus got here, tribes warred with each other over resources. The quaint notion that Indians were environmentalists living in harmony with nature and respected each other is pure bull guano. They stole from one another, killed one another, exhausted the land before moving on. Plains Indians would run herds of buffalo over cliffs to take only about a tenth of them for their food stores, about all they could preserve and carry with them. They would light prairies on fires to drive herds or starve out other tribes. It was neither good nor bad- it was the way they lived. In that regard, tribal conquests over resources were no different thane European ones over borders.
Slavery? Most of the slaves who ended up here were rounded up by other blacks in competing tribes and sold to whites. African tribes kept slaves, as did American Indians. You would do well to recognize, Doctor Hill, that we are the only country on earth who fought a war between white folks to end it. As bad as slavery was, had there been none you might be living in a mud hut waving flies off your starving kids.

I am sure this guy does not know the NAACP was started by white Republicans, and that Democrats voted against the Civil Rights Act, Republicans were one push over the top, Bull Connor was democrat, George Wallis was democrat, KKK was democrat, Robert Bird was member of KKK until he became a democrat in Senate. These make a better point that democrats are racists, Mr. Hill.

This is what I dislike about blacks(majority of prominent ones) they cannot have a discussion on any subject without playing the race card.Columbus: accidentally found America but we honor him. What about black slaves who are still honored today because of something they did then? Hill is a hypocrite. Probably graduated school becauase of affirmative action.

Didn’t Columbus call them Indians because he thought he had arrived in India? Personally, I prefer the term Native American, but that’s just me.
I would somewhat disagree. Yes, it did work like that, but I wouldn’t say that somehow due to this it still wasn’t immoral. I think we all know the Native Americans did fight each other and it wasn’t all peace. At the same time coming in and just going on a killing spree to get the land you want isn’t exactly the just way of doing things. Not that they all did this.
I agree with what you said about slavery, I just want to point one thing out. While yes, African tribes kept slaves, etc, I think it’s a bit silly to say if it wasn’t for that you might still be in a hut. I mean most Africans had families, jobs, lives, they farmed etc…so the way you said it makes it seem like we did them a favor.

And then has the nerve to hurl non-stop racist insults at whites. I understand after thirty years of being placated and given everything on a platter and being told how awsome your people are and how awful whites are that you start to believe that garbage. But for those out there who need a reality check, every thing you hold dear is the accomplishment of some over-rated *******. I know that is hard to accept, but i for one am getting tired of holding the hand of every supposed victim in this country and helping them feel good about all their people have done to further human kind and then have them insult my culture and heritage. Wake up people and stop accepting this white culture hating generation being pushed by race baiting, hate pimps like Mark Lamont and Al Sharpton and have pride in the accomplishments of your heritage. These dorks are teaching our children that they should be ashamed of all the terrible things from the history of American and European whites. I agree. They have become so much more violent and emboldened, not that they were any less before, but now they have the delusion that they can get away with anything because the Prez is black and “cares” about “his people”. You talk about emboldened, well, I saw previews of an “all-black” spin on the classic film and play of the 1990′s, “Steel Magnolias” with QUEEN LATIFAH as the role portrayed by and made famous by Sally Field in the original film. Very unecessary and needless to say I happily changed the channel. The black agenda struck again.

First African American to vote in an election under the 15th Amendment to the United States Constitution, granting voting rights regardless of race (Only Republicans Voted YES) Thomas Mundy Peterson; First African American to graduate from Harvard College: Richard Theodore Greener
January: First African American elected to either chamber of the U.S. Congress: Senator Hiram Rhodes Revels (R-Miss.); December: First African American elected to U.S. House of Representatives: Joseph Rainey (R-S.C.); 1872 First African-American nominee for Vice President of the United States: Frederick Douglass by the Equal Rights Party (R)!! Social Justice just keeps black men down. Rewards based on merit are what motivates people. For example, are you really smart, or just a product of Affirmative Action? I would never go to a black doctor not because I am racist but because I don’t know if he achieved his MD because of hard work or if he was passed along because of Affirmative Action.

Some blacks have been passed along by affirmative action. Until you meet an African American in person, you never know. There was the black doctor who got admitted instead of Bakke in the 1970s Bakke vs UC case. He killed a patient performing liposuction. Bakke btw was an army medic & emgineer who worked at NASA. He wanted to get into space medicine of something like that. He was highly qualified. It just goes to show that liberals will punish the bright & the hard working.
Anotjer black passed along was Obama. Poor guy is lost without a teleprompter & his college grades must remained sealed or forever all doubt about his competence or lack thereof will laid to rest.
He is the only editor of the Student Harvard Law review or whatever never to write a substantial article for it. Again if he had tried he would have crashed & burned. Keep carrying water for him Ex.

Posted on October 8, 2012 at 11:57pm@ Ex,
Hi is stupid not to consult black doctors, but NOT because affirmative action is hunky dory. Rather because all doctors have to prove to a board of practicing superiors that they’re competent. Hi’s stupidity has nothing to do with the fact that affirmative action is a misguided program whose results are the opposite of its stated intent (as with all liberal programs).
Also no conservative begrudges anyone of any race for what they’ve earned. If you could read anything in context, you’d know Hi was referencing attitudes he perceives in the black community (or do you deny the Black Panthers exist just as the most extreme example?) beyond what Hill was referencing, or could even admit (because it puts the lie to both of your worldview). Stop trying to impose your own rules on what people can and can’t say.
p.s. the Obama jab was much harder to refute than the Bakke case, which is why I suspect you didn’t attempt a rebuttal. Good luck in November.

Until the day where a Black or another minority receives a medical, legal or any other kind of license without having to pass the same exam that everyone else has to take, then you and others like you are indeed racist to assume that a Black in a position is not as smart as a white.Think about it!

@Yonah,
No conservative believes Obama is unqualified because of his race. We think he is unqualified because of his lack of qualifications, and the going on 4 years of uninterrupted demonstrations that he’s either completely out of his depth or diabolically brilliant in his ability to fool the population into voting for someone dedicated to the utter downfall of the nation he was elected to lead. There’s very little wiggle room between those two options. Some conservatives, even on this site, might joke around about affirmative action as a way to demonstrate THAT program’s ineffectiveness, but the seriousness of the charge of Obama’s incompetence has nothing to do with his race, only his deeds and their results. Don’t mistake substantive criticism for racism–we don’t.

Posted on October 8, 2012 at 8:54pmMy thoery on affirmative action aka racial spoils systems is thus.
Hispanics have to be grudgingly admitted because there are too many of them for black activists & white liberals to ignore.
IIndians/Native Americans are admitted, because they are relatively few in number & “they won’;t eat much” (take some of the poltical spoils pie away from blacks).
Asians are not admitted because there are too many & they will take up too many affirmative action slots & yet they are not numerous enought to be a poltical force to unseat the black activists & white liberals.
Poor white need not apply of course & blacks born with a silver spoon in their mouth (there are some) are still qualified for affirmative action.
Not only that but the racist Jim Crow one drop rule is in effect, this time promulgated by the racists black activists. Some of whom are no doubt the descendants of white racists. It is perverse karma.

Posted on February 2, 2013 at 10:42pmWhy feel sorry for us? What are you going to do that you haven’t done already? Whether you know it or not, all kingdoms fail. Ancient Egypt, Israel, Assyria, Babylon, Persia, Greece and Rome failed. America will fail too. In fact, the handwriting is already on the wall! If I were you (and I thank God everyday that I’m not), I wouldn’t spend too much time worrying about the children of slaves here in America. You’d be better off considering your own fate in light of all of the crimes against humanity that your people have committed against others throughout its history!

Posted on October 9, 2012 at 4:17amJesse and Louis Farrakhan are not overrated they are opportunists telling Black folks that their plight is someone else’s fault, rather than to get them to accept that their lives are a result of their own actions. He is a poison to his own people. I went to school with Jesse Jr the congressman, when he was a high school kid he could see how Black leaders were keeping their own people down. Now he is doing exactly the same thing. Too bad because the country needs to come together and people like this make it harder than it should be.
Regardless of who wins this November the country is on the cusp of exploding because of all the division. This guy is just one more trying to break the camels back.

To quit alerting (reporting the news to the ) Americans of divisive, offensive, and “us against them” headlines like this is just IRRESPONSIBLE! …….Which, I suppose is what America has been acclimated to for the last ………. what I’m TRYING to say is this: Grow up, and see what’s goin’ on! …THEY didn’t start it, and slavery has been gone for MANY, MANY YEARS, BUT THEY STILL WANT TO RETALIATE!!!!!!!!!!
